Vertical FOV is what is used nowadays because its constant regardless of aspect ratio.
75 fov vertical is going to be >than 100 horizontal.
Quake engine derived games use Horizontal alot of the time.

you can easily calculate hfov to vfov here, its for bad company 2 but easily works for any FPS game.
