I am honestly for this, that's why I post it all the time whenever these threads come up and unfortunately be taken down by moderators.
Where else would we be able to talk about this kind of issue? It is no big surprise that /v/ is one of the biggest boards on this site, so I sincerely suggest that there would be some form of division. Yes, we all know /vg/ happened, but that was most likely a mistake or a godsend..I can't really tell since it keeps away some hardcore autists yet also shifted /v/ up a bit.
Anyway, I would strongly encourage people who browse /v/ to think about a new division of some form. I personally would like a separate of Japanese gaming, because this was the origins of what /v/ was all about...Japanese culture and entertainment. I also feel it would help keep posts relevant. Would greatly keep the western shilling threads away from actual conversations about Japanese games, too, and vice-versa.
I am also someone who feels /a/ should get a separate board for manga, but that isn't to be talked about here.

As you know, there are many threads that talk about games from both the West and from Japan (in the same thread). For example, someone asks "what games do X," and it turns out that a wide variety of games do X (both Western and Japanese).
If there was a board split, the vast majority of these types of threads would be homogenized. I would venture that most /v/ users are open to playing both Western and Japanese games, and so if these kinds of threads suddenly became homogenized like this, then those users wouldn't be able to see some new game to try (or at least hear about).
I play a lot of Western roguelikes, but it just so happens that I came across the game Elona in such a thread. It's a Japanese game, and I tried it out, and enjoyed it. If there was a board split, I might not have seen that game in the first place. I think this would apply to a lot of people. After all, what would be the point of a video game discussion board if people couldn't come across new video games to try with as few barriers as possible?
Splitting the board would just become boring and stale, and would do much more harm than good.

I'm sorry I was a bit too aggressive there. I agree with the issue of /v/ being too large and slower threads being missed out but I disagree with splitting the board. If you split the community you're halving the audience for a possible discussion. Jap games and West Games doesn't make sense to split up, I think you'd need two topics that were more divided if you were going that route because a lot of tastes overlap. I personally believe that we should just increase /v/'s thread page limit to 15-20ish which would give a proper chance to slower threads to gather an audience and allow more content/discussion to exist at a time.
I feel that /Vr/ and /Vg/ make sense because they fill the decently sized audiences for Recurring General spam and retro focused Gamers. I don't like /vp/ or Western/Japanese games because /vp/ is way too niche and making a divide that big for something so abriary just doesn't add up.

All of these ideas to make /v/ better are tackling the same issue indirectly; boards on 4chan are very hard to moderate if they move anywhere near the pace of /v/ or /b/ because of the anonymous and accountless nature of the site.
Everyone trying to split /v/ is just trying to splinter the community enough to make the board actually moderatable with current tactics, but it just adds more boards to either clean up or let fester as containment.
Mods doing their job or enforcing rules better often just relies on more mods due to the pace of the conversations here and the fact that there are still moderation dead zones at night where I can find furry porn for sonic or whatever anthropomorphic game being posted for hours in a single thread.
An ID system of some sort generally goes against perceived core tenets of the site, but it probably one of the easier and more effective things. The community may even be able to handle some level of self moderation through weak shit social pressure or at least will have a better system of identifying people to ignore.

The problem with /v/ is, on a purely game discussion standpoint, that the average poster has played ONLY a small number of games. Sure you can split the boards, but each board will have nothing but 8 topics of the same game, maybe even more. On the western front, all /v/ talks about is TES, Fallout, Halo, Gears, maybe even CoD, STALKER, and whatever is currently advertised. On the Japanese front, all /v/ would ever talk about would be Mario. Zelda, MGS, Persona, Neptunia, SK, and maybe SMT. If you want to talk about F-Zero? Have fun with 14 posts before 404. If you wanna talk about WipEout? Same thing. What about shmups before dodonpachi and touhou collectively murdered the genre? Or something like Quake? Ain't gonna work.
The average /v/ goer has INCREDIBLY narrow tastes for games. Thus, what needs to be done is restrict the number of threads of a single given game.
