How good are you at Fighting Games.

Pretty shit, but I mostly just play Super Turbo on an emulator, and get my ass kicked by the CPU
>>
>>339661965
that fucking horrible zone where I'm better than anyone I play on local multiplayer to where they aren't a challenge and bad enough that anytime I play online I get my ass kicked mercilessly.

I'm alright but i have a love and hate relation ship with fighting games. Every game i ove is pretty much dead on arrival and no one plays anything besides SF.

SF5 is especially a game that i kinda hate but there's nothing else to play besides it. KOF14 and Revelator will be DOA around here as well.

Not very but I love Street Fighter, especially SF2. I grew up playing my older brothers SNES copy of SF2 World Warrior (and later Turbo). To this day I still play ST despite being shit.

I've dumped more hours in SF4 then I'm willing to admit and never got good at that game either. I was going to get SF5 but my GPU is too shitty to run the game. However recently I've noticed the SFV community is really going to shit. Players are turning on other players. Everyone in streams is just looking to shit on either the players or the game itself. It feels like theres a small core that actually loves the game and wants it to succeed and then everyone else is like the guys in a NASCAR audience that just wants to see cars crash and catch fire. I'm kind of glad I'm missing out on this gen desu.
>>
>>339661965
Really bad. I basically never play them. I'm thinking I should probably give something a try, though. I am interested in it, it's just the huge learning curve.
>>
very bad but starting to learn, currently playing Street fighter alpha 3 max and killer instinct (xbone) they are actually fun.
>>
All i do is play fighting games.

I posted my thing a long time ago you post this so much.

All i'm gonna say this time is that it's fun watching /v/ admit in these kind of threads that they're shit at this, yet they talk like they know shit in another fighting thread.

I'm constantly trying to better myself but I never make any progress, and the worst part of it is my one friend who only plays low-tier meme characters and absolutely destroys me.

I had a B rank Ryu, Cody, Sakura, and Guy in USF4, Cody being my main towards the end. I wasn't amazing but I could hold my own against nearly everyone I had to play, aside from the odd A+ Blanka or whatever like that, where it's just odds that you're going to get wrecked before you know what's happening.

I couldn't really get into SFV. I couldn't settle on a character I liked, so I ended up just sitting at ultra bronze/silver and learning a new character every couple weeks. Haven't played since Guile came out because my GPU died.

I tried to get into GG/BB but I was having all sorts of problems finding matches and I'm terrible at learning anime combos.

I guess I'm average? I wouldn't say I'm good, I just know what I'm doing at least.
>>
>>339667532
Super Gold player here. I know some of the terminology, but I have never read a single piece of frame data. It's not even necessary. You just learn eventually which attacks are safe in what situation.
>>
>>339667532

It's really helpful to know how fast moves are though. There's a world of difference between a 3 and 4 frame normal.
>>
>>339667532
You aren't the only one, but it's good to know. I just don't like posting about it in every thread like others do.
>>

I'm pretty decent though since i have no way to get to my scene (Being too far from me) i usually have to rely on Netplay and even then i can't really fight good people due to me living in AZ and a good amount of the better GG and BB players are from east cost and i can't get fights with said people due to being in west coast (Connection and all) then then you have People like SKD who said that netplay can and will never help anyone improve

Who said he was the best in the world? All I know is that he lost hard against Dogura and then went on to lose multiple ft5 money matches in a row. Every player in America is trying to get stronger to catch Japan right now, I don't think any of us are at their level currently
>>
>>339661965
I'm shit at Tekken but I still enjoy trying out new moves and learning techniques. I get destroyed online but that's a given and expected as one learns. That feeling of successfully pulling off new moves and combos 100% of the time after spending the time to practice them is pretty satisfying.
>>
a few years back on i was top 100 for King in tekken 6, and top 1000 for yoshimitsu.

>>
>>339667532

If you want to get good at the game, you'll have to learn frame data. Simple as that.

I'm a Tekken player, so learning frame data for a million moves is basically hardwired into me.
>>
>>339668960
>in addition to all of that you should analyze (or atleast attempt to) what you're doing in matches whats getting you wins whats getting you blown up if you can't do in the match always check your replays

Dropping combos and AA. I play karin though its either I get gook execution or pick a less execution heavy character. And AAing with karin is painful without EX meter.

In SF5? No, it's essential. SF5 is a pressure-heavy game. It's imperative that you know exactly when you can hit buttons and which buttons you can hit to punish your opponent.

Sure, you can just experiment, but that's basically the same shit as learning frame data. You're just taking the long route.

Apart from that, try to dominate the space around you by throwing cans, banana peels and all that stuff. She'll probably jump in once she gets frustrated, which you can punish. Don't try to jump in yourself and use his Ex dash attack as a reversal (it eats two attacks, I think).

I don't understand how anyone get enjoy fighting games online. Most of the community will ALWAYS be better than you.

Bro, I only stopped mashing 200 hours into the game. At 500 hours I finally started looking at other characters that weren't Ryu.

I would say i'm almost intermediate level. My biggest problem is i can't combo for shit. I'm good at decision making and reads and shit like that, but not good combos because my hand coordination isn't that precise at all.

I'm a Silver Ken/Chun-Li player in SFV. I'm at that place where I can kick all of my friends' asses left and right, even when picking random, but I have little ACTUAL success online. I'm really trying to get into the game though.

You're mentally retarded. If you already execute what you need to 100% of the time stick doesn't matter whatsoever. Half of the preference also comes from the fact people played in arcades in their fighting scene where you had to use stick anyways. If you're a shit player who mashes DPs and falls for repeat grabs and wake-up shoryukens then a fightstick won't do shit for you.

Among my group of friends I think I'm pretty good. We're all pretty into it and always trying to learn more and get better. My best friend and I are the best in the group, it's usually a 50/50 win ratio when we're playing lots of matches. He plays in local tournaments sometimes and usually gets about halfway up the ladder before elimination. During SF4 I never had internet and still was beating them when I only got to play it on the weekends. Now with SF5 I don't pay for PS+ so can't play it online, same situation. I think I've just gotten really good at playing against my friends. I've known them a long time and I know how they think when they're playing the game, it's really easy to predict what they're going to do next. Match me up with people I've never played against before and I'd probably get shit on.

I learn by playing not looking at data. Eventually what's punishable gets ingrained through trial and error and an hour or so of lab work. I'm not knocking people who dedicate time to it though, it's just a style of learning and that's what fighters are all about anyway.

As for terminology I know most of it, but I still say the basic phrases just so there's less confusion, but some get very pissy if you don't use numbers and shit all the time. I personally think that a lot of casuals understand more than what the average fighting fan think. They know that cross ups, mix ups, vortexes and such are a thing, they just don't know the terminalogy for it so they get confused when you throw those words out.

I am desperate to be good at fighting games, but I never really enjoy playing SF which is the only truly active game.
I also don't have time to learn shit that's really execution heavy like KOF and Tekken.
I really enjoyed playing SCV, but that series is dead and never coming back.

I'm pretty good. I play fightcade all the time. Still don't have a fightstick though. Maybe will get one when MvC2 is on fightcade

Anyone remember "rival schools united by fate"? I still play that shit to this day.

You're a trash.

I am reaching for Gold in SFV. Currently Ultra Silver. This game is much easier to learn and study than SF4. Fuck I hated Ultras and focus attacks.

The NPCs can beat me on easy.

>Super Turbo on an emulator, and get my ass kicked by the CPU

There's a reason for this that's because any version of Super Turbo that isn't Japan version actually reads your inputs.

intermediate, meaning I am good enough to have fun with the game. I can pull of most things, but I struggle with a few links here and there.
I need to learn to be more aggressive instead of being completely reactionary most of the time,

Don't bother studying frame data until you actually have the basic fundamentals down. All that frame data won't mean shit otherwise. Most of the time you'll get a good rough estimate on what moves are safe and unsafe anyway from just playing normally and learning from mistakes.

Fundamentals you probably really need to learn is to:

a) Learn to block
b) Learn the normals of the character you are playing as

I'm willing to wager that 90% of the problem of people learning to play fighters ignore these key two factors.

Its not only that. I can CH confirm pretty well from my footsie game and can block great I know the ranges and can counter poke well, hell v-reversals makes blocking that much easier since you can reset the situation and shave off some stun.

Those 2 factors help out rookies though I will say that.

Depends on the game.
I'm GARBAGE at SFV
On the other hand, I could beat anyone in this thread at Soulcalibur 5

I'm shit at them. I also don't like the way they feel.

So bad. Literally the genre I'm the worst at. I have no competitive edge, but I'm enamored with the idea of fighting games. I like one on one combat, I like the variety of characters and fighting styles, I like the unique special moves, I like hidden characters and boss characters...but I don't care enough about being good to enjoy them because the games are made solely as a vehicle to git gud and show off.

God do I know this feel. Cant people be dissapointed with the way capcom has handled SFV but still love the game and enjoy playing it?

The FGC these days is going full aspie along with the wider gaming community and im sick to my stomach of everyone being a miserable fuck.

Yeah I feel you but shit is becoming more and more toxic.

My ouroboros game is so unorthodox I've been able to sweep most if not all people I have ever played against.

In Tekken i'm good with only highly accessible characters like Bryan or Hwoarang. Even Paul's controls are disaster for me. Don't know if it counts as "bad" though.
