Kefka's theme is very playful and subtle. It really sells both his mischievous escapades and his murderous ambitions. The opening symbolizes his plotting of the poisoning of Doma. The drums represent the soldiers marching to the castle. Finally, achieving an underhanded victory when the piano organs come in, which is also used as his laugh in the game. Truly enthralling stuff out of Uematsu.

That's what makes his sacrifice meaningful. He didn't just want to stop the ritual because he thought it was wrong, but also because he genuinely cared about Stocke. His anger about the injustice of the system was outweighed by his love for his nephew, which is why he gave his life for a world he despised. As he saw it, Stocke was the only hope the world had left and he would rather give his own life so Stocke could live than let Stocke kill himself and stay alive in a world he had given up hope on.

How is that a retarded reason? Humans don't always act rationally and Heiss's entire motivation is emotional in nature. He wanted Stocke to know how he felt and probably didn't want to lie to the only person he cared about for the rest of his life. I think he acknowledges everyone when he says that. The game isn't clear. But even then, there should have been some build up in that scene. I've argued Tomino-speak subtext in Zeta and CCA, but saying Kuja was keeping his cool during the scene, when later in the game he flies of the handel when Garland mentions Zidane being the apex Genome and professes his undying hatred for Zidane(and the world). Plus he was aware of Zidane's power and could have told Brahe "Ey yo uggo, kill this motherfucker before he royally fucks your dusty fat pussy."
