It holds its own pretty damn well. It's a bit too weeb but the fighting is satisfying in it's own style and branches away from MonHunt. While Monster Hunter nails that slow methodical fighting style, God Eater's combat is more about being fast and staying on your toes. The gun component is fun to use and the bullet maker is a neat mechanic.

However the charge stuff didn't make it feel any heavier than the short swords. Sure it took longer, but the end result for all the weapons is just a big whack effect that the monster doesn't even seem to notice, unless you were to smash a part.

God eater is faster paced and more action oriented then monster hunters more methodical combat. The monsters have breakable parts on them and you follow the same kill monsters to make equipment that's used to kill more monsters formula. God eater has multiple weapons which are small sword, long blade, buster blade, hammer, spear, scythe, and different kinds of guns and shields. You always have a gun, melee weapon and shield at the same time because your godarc can change forms. Also skills are apart of your weapons, shields, units, and god arcs so you can dress your character however you want.
The game is mission based with you fighting different types and numbers of aragami(the games monsters). As you complete certain missions the story will continue. You select quests in a small hub area.

Its a fast paced weeb MH game that is kind of its own thing now. Its easier than MH due to the fact that teammates can revive you at the cost of their HP, lock on, dashes, double jumps etc.
Unlike a long series like MH this is only a second game in the series and it shows in the lack of polish and content compared to MH.
Still though its a fun game I'd recommend playing.

I didn't find the demo of God Eater Ressurection to feel satisfying at all. Something about the weapon and movement animations just felt lacking. I feel like I want to be excited for these kind of games. Grinding in other JRPGs never bothered me so much, so it being in hunting games should have no effect. I don't know what it is though, maybe I've watched too many Monster Hunter videos because after playing Toukiden for ten hours it was just lacking depth. I'm seeing the same thing with this game except there's a bit more humor in this. I hope this game is actually good on ps4 so I can eat my words and enjoy a hunting game. I will say this, Soul Sacrifice Delta looks great and they need to make a remaster or a sequel on ps4 for it.
