Use the bonfire/gate to cheese it. The crocdog wont come through and you can heal/range kill it easy.

Jesus fuck. Ds3 is the easiest in the series. (I would argue ds2+dlc is harder by a WIDE margin) the hardest part in thw entire game was those giant swamo monsters when lighting the beacon.
