So can someone explain to me how Overwatch is getting so much praise as a multiplayer only barebone $40-60 game when SFV is getting destroyed by users and critics alike for the lack of content?

SFV: Comes with casual, ranked, tutorial specific per character, in depth training mode, roadmap for story mode, more characters.

OW: Comes with casual, basic tutorial, "training mode" with 1 map, and a ranked mode coming late next month.

Overwatch is a new ip with nothing that was really established before while SF in the other hands, has at least always had an arcade mode. Despite only some people caring about that it is something Street fighter has always had. Imagine another game series having a feature it's always had get taken away. It'd piss some people off. Not to mention some people waiting a relatively long time for matches, basically not much being done about ragequitting, servers going down, some characters looking JUST, piss easy story mode with 3 or 4 one round matches some may be small things but they add upp. Sure casuals may not stick with it for a long time, but they make a bulk of the sales. If you take that away it's not going do well. Even though they announced a better story mode would be added in it's something that should have been in from the start. A game franchise can not survive with just support from the hardcore fans, the money is not enough to cover the investment put in the game, especially in a genere as relatively small as fighting games.

Overwatch is at the very least functional, has working online with great matchmaking, punishes ragequitting and is overall a solid title and will surely get future updates reliably.

SFV is an embarassment to Street Fighter and fighting games in general. Apart from the lousy online infrastructure, the game is literally almost nothing. Capcom got everyone fooled when they said no more forced paid DLCs and editions, something that was obviously too good to be true as we see now. Character models are ugly as fuck, and high level tournament play is boring to watch. For a game that promotes fundamentals it does its job horribly with the amount of jump-ins and wakeup jabs you can get away with, which wouldnt be the case in competent fighting games.

Updates are delayed and at this point, anyone deservss their money swindled if they fell for the SFV meme.

It probably wont matter though since Capcom cocksuckers will praise literal shit if it had the Capcom logo on it.

Content wise (don't get me started on all the other shit wrong) I think SFV is getting unwarranted hate. ITS A FIGHTING GAME. It is FUNDAMENTALLY SIMPLE. You fight. Rinse and repeat.

Any one that is actually complaining about single player content is an idiot who is too easily entertained because SF story mode is literally fighting the cpu with 30 sec cut scenes, until you fight the boss and DONE. THATS IT. IT IS SHIT.

Sf has always been about the multiplayer and that's what they focused on at launch, getting the competitive online players in the action as soon as possible

Because OW is shilled and it's a western game so it's automatically a minimum 8/10. And then it has some tumblr designs so 10/10 it gets.

SFV got some rightful criticism but it was majorly overblown considering how quickly people bended over for Overwatch.

Overwatch is fun. Every character feels different but still strong in their own right. The gameplay is a pretty unique mix of moba and fps. It's easy to pick up and play, and yes it's casual friendly.

I hate how /v/ defines any game that doesn't require hours of grinding/no life status to enjoy a "casual" game.

Here's the rub: Overwatch wasn't made with you in mind. /v/ isn't the target audience. Acti-Blizzard saw the huge market for MOBAs and the huge market for FPS's and we're the first ones to realize how huge the overlap is. They saw an unoccupied market niche and cornered it, much like they have done with all their other games.

Also, I love the cognitive dissonance /v/ constantly displays. Blizzard realized that the better formula for a good game is having good, fun content, not just tons of meh content. Isn't this the same forum that complains about open world games that just tack on content to seem big? Let's be real, Overwatch only needed these few game modes because that's what people like to play. Sure you have the odd ducks who like the weirder game modes, but the vast majority of consumers are perfectly happy with just these. So why not focus on making these modes tight and awesome, instead of tacking on additional modes for the sake of "more content" even if they rarely get played?

Street Fighter did release very unfinished because Capcom wanted it out in time for their pro tour. It did provide enough for people to get into matches and throwdown (provided the netcode wasn't shitting itself). However casuals want singleplayer content, and the moment you say the word "unfinished" people tend to get fixated on that.

Because there's a certain level of expectation placed on each genre. Fighting games are expected to have a functional story/arcade mode, not to mention online play that works most of the time. Class-based FPS is expected to be multiplayer-only, and Blizz's netcode is a lot better than Capcom's, so that's a plus.
