Who here is hyped for La-Mulana 2?
>>
Very few people. How are the updates coming along? I can't check because I didn't back it.
>>
GOTY 2016
>>
>>339593530

There's an anon that regularly posts on la mulana threads that backed LM2. He said level design is mostly done, and they're working on backgrounds now.
>>
>>339593530

release date when
>>
>>339593686
Thank you. Hope it comes before 2017, really looking forward to it.
>>
Can't wait. Maybe this time I won't be such a pleb and didn't check the wiki every other step
>>
>>339593843
It got just enough money to get backed after the deadline and the very few times I've seen a La-Mulana thread it dies almost instantly.
>>
Dude is having trouble with composing the music because it has been years since the last time he had to do it. But i think it's quite good, specially field00

https://soundcloud.com/user-784121968

He did say that he is going to leave the final versions to the same person who did the music for the beta version.
>>
Hope it won't be a stupid convuluted mess like the first one

I sure am.
>>
>>339594178
Okay, maybe now I can finally finish it.

After killing the two snakes I just gave up on where I am supposed to go
>>
>>339594178
oh cool that might help

the only stopping me from finishing la mulana (1) is the fact that i need a guide and i fucking hate the idea of having to use a guide at least on this game
>>
>>339594178

I'm conflicted about this.
>>
I really wish I'd backed it when I had the chance. Fuck.
>>

>>
>>339594415
>two snakes
that's like the tutorial boss and hours away from where the game becomes convoluted and people generally need hints.
so even though you're correct in saying la-mulana has issues with its puzzles, you wouldn't actually know because up to that point (and more) the game is very manageable as long as you're patient and observant.
>>
>>339594772
>tutorial boss

Heh, I beat amphisbaena after killing both Leviathan and Elmac. I couldn't beat the red skeletons when i got there first, so i continued exploring and eventually unlocked the boss fight by chance.
>>
I unironically think La Mulana is the best game of all time
>>

I fucking love la mulana but I think it has some really bullshit parts

I really like the game even though I haven't technically finished but the music and gameplay so far probably sealed it as a favourite, but the developers themselves said they intentionally made the game to frustrate the player in some ways.

Also somebody help me I can't beat that goddamn eye boss I keep getting so close but I fuck up once and all my health goes to shit. I know git gud but should I farm gold and cheese with gun? Fuck getting the chain whip through that gap in the wall-fire.

>>

are you doing hard mode no sub weapons?
>>
>>339596185
I'm not sure what weapons you have but you really want to get the axe to kill some of the harder bosses. I found this one helped a lot.

>spoiler
Cheesing it with a gun never feels good and since you can't repeat the bosses without starting a new game I would not do it.
>>
Game was hard and took forever

Hell wasn't so difficult except that one room

You know the one
>>
>>339596805
the witches one
no, it's not the fucking pillar one, that one you can stop time and get away with it
>>
>>339592853
I still haven't beat the first one after 4 years of owning it
>>
>>339596904
I don't remember a witches room
>>
>>339597046
it's the hardest one because of the fake floors.
it's the one right after the one with the lasers that shoot from eyes in each wall of the room.
>>
>>339594501
Why? It's not like they are are going to completely spoil what you have to do, just give you the general direction you need to go to, and they will probably let you disable it.

I mean a lot of people didn't finish La-Mulana or resorted to using a guide simply because you have no idea where to go after a while without needing to first explore every single room again.
>>
>>339595983
I was stuck for days, then it turned out he wasn't the second boss
>>
>>339597370
the most bullshit example being the tower of the goddess entrance
>>
>>339597370

I understand that. I also found myself frustrated about that, but showing you what the button changed might make it too easy. I'd prefer if they'd provide some sort of clue, based on how the mechanism is related to what it did, or some kind of information.

Also, I'd hope if they completely avoid noticing small details on the backgrounds. The "dancing man" puzzle and the spot where you have to place the serpent staff were kind of annoying, because I couldn't make out the difference on the background textures.
>>
>>339596671
>>339596762
no this is my first run, so far I've been trying my best to avoid any spoilers except for getting the axe to beat bahamut. Can I skip him and beat another boss first? I got access to Chamber of Extinction (Dark place) and Gateway of Illusion (Eden).

>>
>>339597848
yeah, you got some room to work with, you really don't need to defeat x number of bosses until later.

if you are there you should have the spears, so it should be easy for you to kill him. Do you know how faries work?
>>
>>339597848

I'm pretty sure you need to beat him to progress, he's not that hard

Did you find/solve the serdab of light, the weapon there might be very useful against bananamut
>>
>>339598009
I beat that boss already, I was referring to the eyeboss of the lava level. I've tried caltraps and rolling shuriken but he really gets me towards the end when the slightly curving mega laser destroys the platforms above you that you need to stand on to hit the eye.
>>
>>339598041

The reference to feet made me fuck around in the rooms named Neptune's feet for five thousand years.
>>
>>339597636
What broke me the most were the scaffolds in that area that took me hours going back and forth in the ruins until i found out by chance that they were climbable.
>>
>>339598151
>>339598213
Yeah I found the spear, and I was using the fairy glitch unsuccesfully on the water level boss before I got a better weapon. I only use the spears to 2 hit the tentacles, then switch to roll shuriken or caltraps to hit when the eye opens. Should I just farm money till I have enough to spam? At this point I don't really mind getting the gun.
>>
>>339598237

Oh

I beat it by being very patient, sometimes he will skip a laser and then you can hit him. Or just pistol his eye into oblivion.

I did a similar thing but revisiting every room every time I solved a puzzle was too tedious. And once you start cheating, it's hard to stop.

Tiamat is another good climax, though she's a little overshadowed by the dozen bosses just before.

Most bosses are just "hit this big scary monster". Then a few witches summon the Pagan God of old who immediately nukes your as with witchcraft, then transforms and flies to keep out of reach which all flying bosses should do.

I got stuck for at least 2 months between Viy and Palenque.

Do you have a single fact to back that up or are you being just a good goy / gullible NEET ? They barely got the minimum for the KS and they still have to pay their bill (food, eletricity, maybe rent, health care, etc, etc), so the only way the budget they got isn't burning down is if they all have a job.

I think they will deliver because muh honoraburu japarunesu, but it's pretty fair to doubt about the quality of the game they will deliver, specially compared to the first one.

>The fifth children did not have wings. They weren't fish or snakes or Giants. Just regular people. They had knowledge of the skies, and could make huge pyramids by themselves. But they were too ambitious, trying to become gods, seeking immortality, or creating humans out of clay, and the Mother's wrath was felt yet again. The Mother disrupted the language of the fifth children. But as a result, multiple civilizations were born from one generation of children.

I did, and I don't feel ashamed of it.
Hell, La Mulana might be one of the few modern games where I believe it's close to impossible to beat without looking anything up and I have a hard time believing those who claim they did, since this game has so many bullshit puzzle. It becomes especially ridiculous close to the end.

In the kikestarter it says:
>In La-Mulana 2, players will be able to unlock new costumes using skeleton keys. Each key is a single use, but backers with multiple keys will be able to unlock up to 4 hidden costumes.

So i guess through each playthrough you can only unlock one at a time by normal means?

I eventually beat the game without looking anything up, but even when you are writing everything down and keeping track of what you have solved and not there is a lot of bullshit that's left to guessing. Surprisingly the original game was a lot easier and has almost none of that and instead has other problems (money grind, won't easily give you the extended map and rear field warp).

La Mulana had some great fan art, way better than you'd expect from a game with its kind of exposure
I guess it's one of those things where the small fanbase makes up for it by being dedicated as fuck
>>
I'll admit I gave up on La-Mulana after wandering aimlessly in the Graveyard of the Giants and realising I had used a guide for most of the game up to that point, even Gate of Guidance. Maybe someday I'll start over and write down everything I see but it's unlikely. It's really frustrating too to stumble to a boss early and not know if it's supposed to be that hard or if you're meant to come back to it five areas from now. It's a cool game in concept though.
>>
I'm bad at puzzle games. Is the game good enough to overlook that and just write things down/brute force it when needed?

I beat Zelda 2 and Metroid as a kid with my brother as well. Obviously the internet wasn't around back then. Those aren't nearly as cryptic as La Mulana, though. Most NPC at least give you a vague hint as to where you're supposed to go next.
La Mulana is just an audio signal and you're supposed to check everything that this puzzle might have activated. And there were a lot of instances where the things you activated were not even within its own level, so it came down to crude guesswork (sometimes)
How did you figure out the tiamat puzzle?
This part makes me doubt people's claims the most, by far.
Also off-topic: If you liked Zelda 2, go check out Battle of Olympus if you haven't already. It's basically Zelda 2: 2. But it's really good anyway.

>>339603817
I just don't know dude, you don't even need to write things down since the game gives you a journal to record certain tablets as you wish.
I really don't want to fault people for lying on the internet, but given the nature of this game, it's just so hard to believe.
I'll try your way of keeping a journal for the second game, it seems cool and maybe it does help after all. We'll see.

I used the TextTrac a while when starting out but it lulls you into a false sense of security and when you are running out of entries you are in trouble. I had to start over because there was too many things I couldn't keep track of anymore.
By using pen and paper you can write down every tablet, make your own notes, piece together puzzles like for the scales and have your own map annotations for suspicious stuff in rooms.

That's definitely true. However, I'd like to think that if you once read a tablet, you will at least keep it in the back of your head and roughly remember it.
That's the case for me at least, I didn't forget any of the tablet's writings, it's just that I couldn't decipher their meaning at all.
But like I said, I'll try keeping a journal as well, be it for the sake of having a nice little keepsake.

I resorted to a guide for pretty much the entire game after Gate of Confusion and I didn't really like how confusing & obscure a lot of the puzzles were, but...

I don't know if I like that either, it seems like they should just have more and better hints that aren't so obscure and completely out of the way. I didn't even dislike most of the puzzles themselves really, but not having any idea what to do because of crappy hints did make it not very fun at times.

Maybe it is for the better so that they have more design freedom to put in a switch that has some effect in another far off room, but I'm still a little concerned about it possibly being overused, spoiling too much, and/or making players rely too much on that feature instead of giving clever hints.

I try to advocate La Mulana everyhwere, got two people to try it but they haven't even gotten to the first boss and dropped it.
This game is so criminally under-appreciated (outside of the core fan-base) it hurts.

I might overexagerrate a little, but La Mulana was THE game that rekindled my interest in video games. I'm really glad we will get a second entry, but it's kinda sad that this game will never get the proper discussion here that it surely deserves.

I still like the wacky theory that LM2 will be about becoming the new Mother, because the Philosophers were lying to you in the original, and just wanted to get her out of the way to seize power.

>9th spirit in the 0th body
>9th spirit would be something born of the 8th children, the humans, could be Lumisa due to her vague connection to Lemeza
>0th body would be the body that gave birth to the 1st child, so Mother

Pretty much this entire theory hinges on that the Philosophers are part of the 7th children, and 7 is La-Mulanese for "deceit"

>>

Thanks, I remember now.
It's "puzzles" like these, that makes it super hard for me to believe that people beat this blindly.
You're supposed to backtrack to a place that you cannot know of, without any information or hint about it. When I played La-Mulana for the first time, I once spent at least 8 hours backtracking all the areas, in hopes to find something that activated. There were times where I didn't progress for a whole day and just running in circles.

There's not a lot of parts like that in the game, and this "puzzle" can be skipped if you opened the backside to TotG with a Key Fairy.

That being said, it's still an undeniable bit of very poor game design.

It's believable over the course of several months.
At some point you really just stumble on things accidentally. There are entire weeks where I didn't progress at all, only finding useless software or hidden coin caches.

>Has he played 999 yet?
Yea, and a bunch of other VNs. He even streamed the entirety of Umineko. Yep, Unfortunately he doesn't archive the stuff so that's all gone now.

As far as VNs go, I think he's reading Kara no Shoujo/Higanbana/Planetarium next.

I played the original. There were 4 times I need a guide.
1. Opening up the temple originally because I didn't really know how things worked yet.
2. Maze of Galious area. You'd think it'd just be a joke secret area but it's required despite how no notes really refering to it. I just didn't get the reference so I didn't know typing was a thing you did.
3. Infinite corridor I believe, the puzzle where you had to pass through the gates in the correct order. I got the order right, but the game was glitchy and didn't register me doing it when I tried.
4. Getting the level 3 whip because for as much as I took notes on everything and thought I had it down and the math all worked out, even calculating myself into the equation, something was oddly translated and messing everything up, and you had to do a lot to retry that puzzle.

All in all, I think I did pretty well. 4 out of a hundred so puzzles. Solved even weird stuff like the pregnant Sun and moon on my own.

You're kinda being a dick. It's one that will throw a lot of people off using the pause function in a puzzle and the abstract nature of "just sit in the sun room long enough". I got it but I don't blame anyone for getting lost at that chain of events as many people have.

oh wait I thought he meant the falling sun one, oops
