I put more than 300 hours into 2K16 and not even close to getting tired. Apart from Spike Lee's bullshit story it's really fucking fun. Then again, I love basketball so I don't know if someone not familiar with the fundamentals of the game will enjoy it as much.

I think Spike just wanted to tell a muh poor black baller from NY story and forgot that he's doing it for a videogame, but seeing as he's a Hollywood director nobody wanted to tell him he's not doing it right.

They indeed are hard. I can see how someone who just wants to play ball will get incredibly frustrated with 2k16 - it requires lots of practice and understanding of the game, the AI on defense is so good that you have to run plays, pick and roll, really try to get a good look to score, you can't just chuck shots like Curry or drive like Westbrook if your player isn't as skilled as them.

Yes, it's all in the game. You start at highschool, then pick your college, then get drafted based on your performance, then you play 8 games at various points of your rookie season. Afterwards the Spike Lee story ends and your second season is full, 82 games (you get to be a free agent before that so you can get signed by a different team), with off-days where you can practice, do endorsements, spend time with other players, etc.
