What is with the recent trend of "no honor no command"?
I observed the ups and downs of it, but really though, you might as well disable sacrifice because the games get even worse when 3 or 4 worms spawn in the first loop and all you have is a sticky grenade, a syringe and a smart shopper.
Even worse is that people will want to pick the items even more, because they can just walk over the items and automatically pick them rather than have to endanger their lives picking the contents of a crate while an orange elite is nearby or an enemy suddenly spawns near the user picking the crate.
On the plus side, it prevents people from taking the same items every single game or abusing the stack system to become nigh invincible or ultimate carries (IE : engineer with syringes, 14 lensmaker glasses and a crit ring)

Honor tones down mob spawns, so it keeps the game moving at a pace
Sitting at a chest selecting an item is kind of meh. Especially so when you are trying to clear an area so it's safe to nab it and then some loader or sniper comes up and just yanks it. That can happen with just plain items too but it feels like less of a dick slap.
And, like you said, keeps people from going for the same boring builds. The random nature of the items is just more fun, command's good for experimenting.

Trends come and go, that's kind of the definition.
Honour and Command make the game punishing and up the git gud factor, but as you point out, makes the endgame trivial with the right item stacking. The difficulty curve over time spikes around the 20 minute mark, and then starts decreasing after Clovers are capped. Honour+Command starts punishing, but gets easier.
Taking both artifacts away is a lot more forgiving in the early game, with players much less likely to die due to less missiles and funballs and less damage from enemies. This lets players stay in longer initially. The reduced early screwups means less players feel helpless for longer. But perhaps more importantly, the difficulty is always going up. The inability to choose items to keep up with increasing spawnrates and elite mobs means the combat never gets easier. This matches a typical Survival Arena mode much more closely - steady and constant ramping up until players can't handle it anymore. Things start easier, but ramp up to a level that is very punishing.
Really the only core artifacts for the /v/ experience, if you ask me, are Glass and Spite. That's it. Honour, Command, Sacrifice, and Origin are the regular salt and pepper spices that hosts add to taste. Kin, Distortion, and Enigma are the exotic cardamom, fenugreek and saffron spices for really quirky games. And then there's Spirit, the habanero pepper of the game because it leads to desyncs.

I think they deal damage depending on your damage.
So sniper missiles tend to pack a punch, but you rarely see them.
On the contrary, commando will spawn them very often, but they won't do much damage.

Green Missiles base damage off of the attack itself (*including* crit), whereas Red Missiles use base damage.
Green Missiles are actually really great because it scales with Crit and with your character overall. They are the best offensive item to get after you get all the Crit items you need. It is good for everyone, but mostly good for ranged classes (including Engineer) and kinda mediocre for Acrid and Loader in particular.

I was playing with totally default shit on, my save got wiped trying to fix the game not read/writing save file (delete pref.ini and saves.ini if this happens to you btw), and thought I'd give default a go again.
It was actually super fun, I was constantly getting knocked down to around 100-150 health (which was around 10% of what I had). And fighting providence was more than just fire and kite.
Dont think I could have won without the infusion I picked up half way through though.

The only reason you should download wireshark is to rip names from IP's, so you don't have to watch the IP's appear as people join.
You can do it default by going into taskmanager > performance > resource monitor
Filter by port so the risk of rain ones keep together.
