Do you think Mario NX will be more "open world" like 64 and Sunshine or maintain the more linear style the franchise has gone in?

>What I want
The best aspects of 64 and Galaxy's combined with Sunshine's level design and attention to detail when it comes to world building.

>What I expect
3D World 2, now with even more ways to fuck over your friends.

if there isnt a proper mario 64 sequel, i will keep boycotting nintendo

Yes, I'm sure your 20 bucks on a used copy will be missed.

It's going to be a New Super Mario Bros. NX and you know it. This time the gimmick du jour will be eight-player co-op!
>>

Mario, Luigi, and 6 Toads.
>>

That sounds dope.

Also, what does that have to do with anything, we're talking core marios. Are you seriously implying they'd release only a NSMB when even the 3DS has a both a 2D and 3D Mario?

We'd be lucky to get something as mediocre as a 3DW sequel at this point

I hope you enjoy NSMB3D, please understand

Nintendo has yet to disappoint me with a single mainline Mario game.

Maybe I just don't expect anything from them and then I'm always surprised. I guess it helps not looking at footage and info when a new game is announced and just jumping to it.

and fucking fixed
It's not quite a fair comparison to have doki doki panic in there when the actual SMB2 looked almost the exact same as SMB1

Honestly that sounds like a pretty good idea, imagine the clusterfuck.
>>
>>339536820
The latter. They're concerned with trying to get 3D Mario to sell like 2D Mario, so it'll only get more linear until they accept it'll never happen.
>>
>>339542153
It was hard not to be disappointed by 3DW when they first showed it because of how much it reeked of NSMB, aesthetically. Then again you may not consider 3DW to be mainline, and even still it wasn't a bad game. It just felt like a 3D version of NSMB.

I'm terrified at the prospect that this is all Mario games are going to be now. The art style is so sterile.

I was, but then the second trailer happened and I actually played it and it was great.

I'm not worried when it comes to EAD Marios.

It's going to be even more uninspired by 3D World. I am now convinced that they dumped all ideas they had left for Mario into the Galaxy games
>>
>>339536820
They're most likely going to make another Super Mario 3D _____ type game. It was a nice translation of 2D to a more fun 3D environment, but in the end it was just another rehash that doesn't stand well enough on its own without co-op, just like what they've been doing with NSMB for the past 7 years. Now that they've found out that they can get away with it as a mainline "3D" Mario title, it's doubtful that they'll release anything that's less-linear and stands strong as a single-player title.

I've never seen an amazing, genre defining series becoming a souless formulaic safe cashgrab so quickly.
If NX doesn't see some drastic change in direction, Mario is dead.

Never understood this meme.
I get the "NSMB is bad" thing but never this one

ITT: people whose first Mario games were 64 and Sunshine make the mistake of thinking every mario game should be like those two outliers

fuck you guys, collectathons a shit. 64 and sunshine have terribly designed levels and it's not fun re-treating the same ground every time. I much prefer ACTUAL mario - well-designed platforming.
>>
>>339536820
probably linear, only reason why 64 & sunshine were open world was because open world games on consoles were the next big thing at the time
