it doesn't. it's you scrubbing through a database of police interview footage in non-chronological order trying to piece together a story about a murder into chronological order. Since it isn't organized chronologically the story is all over the place, but you can go through and search for key-phrases like "car keys" and it'll pop up videos with that phrase in them and then you can organize them into a chronology you believe is correct.
The game doesn't end and it never tells you if you have it exactly correct, you just make peace with the story you've made.

Read Only Memories is actually a good game.
Although they're coming out with a "remastered" version soon so the one in the bundle is going to be outdated pretty soon.
Her Story is such a legitimately interesting and decent detective game that I really fucking wish it hadn't earned the SJW-reputation just because Cucktaku and Polygon liked it.
If someone else would just expand on the mechanics to include examining physical evidence and possibly implement some kind of interview system I genuinely think it could start a pretty cool new detective/mystery subgenre of adventure games for the modern age.
I just hope the sequel does a good job building on it and doesn't get bogged down in retarded fucking leftist political bullshit thanks to the people who tend to review it well.

well, I disagree. I guess it's whatever if you guys didn't like it but it really drew me in.
I didn't really see the homo stuff as the central element of the game, but rather the way the story was told. I think it's so interesting to have the story told in majority through the environment rather than the voiceovers (which are a pain but are necessary for the story to have some sort of structure).
so what if it's based on the dev's life? why is it bad that an artist should project themselves onto their art?
the story wasn't anything exceptional, but I just love the way it was told through the world. maybe it's just because I'm a total creep but I felt like I got to know the characters in that house more that way than if I had actually seen shitty 3D models overacting their lines in cutscenes.
I like gone homo because it's an impressive way to tell a story that opens up the way for other, better stories in games (or in-teractive ex-peeeeeriences for those of you who are currently shitting themselves)
