Anyhow, I sometimes watch people play games for the commentary. I get to learn interesting shit that I otherwise wouldn't have, and just enjoy the interactions between the people playing. Or sometimes I watch speed runs because that shit just blows my mind.
It's like listening to podcasts. I mean, why the fuck listen to podcasts when you can just talk to people? You're listen to other people talk, and live their lives, while you're just sitting there... listening to them.

I agree with this. The vast majority of streamers are godawful, and offer nothing of value, and all they say is what's immediately happening to them, or bitch and get fake angry when some other player or AI is beating them. Hence why I rarely ever listen to any. I maybe find a few per years that I actually like.
God help me if I can remember any names though. All I can remember liking a couple, one for Gnomoria commentary (his voice is a dream to listen to... and I loved hearing him chat about tea), and another for Supreme Commander multiplayer commentary. I found the matches he was commentating to be fascinating, and really enjoyed learning weird and obscure shit about the game from him.
I also liked some Civ V commentator guy. The guy's strats and insight were fucking deep, and listening to him did considerably up my game.
So yeah, the vast majority of streamers are ass, and I spend, I dunno, maybe 20 hours a year listening to them. All my point was is that there can be legit reasons to listen to them.

I can sort of understand if it is some competitive multiplayer game. These lets plays were someone actually record them selves playing entire single player game and people actually watch the entire thing is one of the many things I just don't understand about this generation. I rather play it my self than watch some autist play it while making stupid unfunny commentary. Kids these days are even making unironic live reaction videos of every episode of every anime they watch. I have no desire to broadcast my self enjoying my autistic hobbies to people over the internet nor do I have any desire to watch other people do the same.
