not strictly related but the meme of choice among my school in first gen was that those grassy areas outside of the Pallet Town east-west boundaries were actually accessible and that it was called "Bulbasaur's Garden" or "Bills Secret Garden" or some shit like that. There was something to do with being able to catch all the starters there, not to mention some PokeGod fourth evolution bullshit.

I've heard it all.
If you use strength on the statues in the safari zone outside the house you get surf you can move them and press a switch. This opens a new safari zone area where you can catch pokegod. You have to use a nidoking to push the statue though.
