Is Battleborne stillborn?
You're the first one to make that joke.
what a fucking mess, I hope everyone at gearbox commits suicide
this is what you get for making bordermemes, everyone gets his just reward in this life
Yes, couldn't be the process just still running in the background, because games like to not close properly a lot of the time.
the question is, is it a bug or feature?
>>339471217
Yeah but multiple people have reported it and steam would most likely tell you another game is running if you tried playing anything else on steam after battleborn. The game is literally deader than we thought.
could be worse. not by much though.
>it's so shit it's been price cut down to 18 dollars already
>>339471217
its possbile, some games I quit lock their process and even when I destroy steam.exe the game process is still active and doesn't die even with kill task
this sounds just like another variation of that bug I have with steam
>>339471430
Still too expensive.
JUST
>>339471219
How the fuck could it be a feature
Only possible use for a game inflating hours played is making it so that you can't refund it, which I'm pretty sure has to be against some part of Steam user agreement
It's amazing how everyone except game developer and publisher knows that game will be total shit, and still gets developed and released. Like battleborn, or dead island moba, or homefront 2
>>339471049
Ill play it when its free
just fuck my game and company up
even if they die they've got no IPs worth resurrecting.
>>339471352
I saw a thread on here earlier with multiple people on steam reporting that DS3 fried their PSU due to the "game engine overdrawing power."
People don't like to think that they've overlooked simple shit.
>>339471782
its more common than you think, its happened because they live in circlejerk bubble of self praising and brand any criticism as faGGot trolling,
I am glad many SJW inspired game start falling apart economicaly, now lets on to mirror age 2
I thought San Fran indiecucks would be the first people to try and pull this shit to weasel out of refunds
Gearbox will probably get away with it, expect the spin to be 'it's a bug, it'll be fixed! (after our game's numbers are inflated and every owner is past the refund window)'
I like how the MNC format is apparently doomed to failure every single time.
>>339471049
It's not as dead as Kidswatch :^)
Even the Twitch streamers which said in the beta that Kidswatch is good don't want to play it anymore, because it is boring af
>>339472261
And yet there's still like 100 of these sort of games set to come out this year. Gonna suck having a front page full of Overwatch vs X threads well into 2017 clogging the front page.
>le funny memes
Meanwhile based Battleborn is kicking ass!
>>339471782
More like, they know but they don't want to admit so they're trying to squeeze out every last drop of cash they can.
>>339472342
How can one game be so good?
>>339472195
I doubt thats the case because I havent seen anyone complain about this and you could easily bypass the 2 hour refund window by making a shitty forced tutorial that goes over 2 hours before you actually get to play the game
>>339472342
>Can't even be bothered to change the background color on his shitty edit to make it a little convincing
How much are they paying you, I might need to get in on this.

>>339471049
Ofc its not, just look at all the hours played people have. Its definitely popular.
>>339471219
Could be bug, same thing happened with starbound where exiting the game left one of its processes still running, and it inflated your hours because of it.
>>339472261
MNC was great though. SMNC was alright in beta but fucked completely in the release. Even then no one wanted it to go full League. People just wanted MNC2. Hell I would forgive Uber for all their bullshit if they shit out an MNC2.

I'm almost certain it's a Steam bug, I've had it happen for multiple games. One game, for which I literally did nothing but start once and immediately exit, has Steam listing me as having played for over 50 hours. Other games have times well below what I actually played, e.g. I beat Amnesia in about 2 hours according to Steam.
>>339471746
Fucking GTA 4 and 5 did the same shit, thanks to Rockstart Social Club.
They're using external services either for multiplayer or anti-cheat, jesus christ you faggots are paranoid. TORtanic ruined /v/

Planned failures are a thing in commercial products. A lot of the time they're fronts to hire friends and connections for free money, and then bail out. Which is why a lot of people constantly involved in flops never actually fuck off from the industry they're ruining with their trash.
>>339474240
That sounds more like a bug
>>339471049
>Of those 2000-3000 players a bunch of them might not even be playing and it could just be a bug

Has there ever been a game that failed this quickly and badly before?

steam records "hours played" even while games are close and you are only in the menu of a game before opening (you know , like witcher menus before fully opening the game)
but keep working shill , not like we dont have enough shills threads of your shit game here
>>339474496
This is proof that making new IPs doesn't work and games are sold too cheap.
>>339474607
No, it's proof bad games do badly.
>>339474581
>(you know , like witcher menus before fully opening the game)

>>339473718
>Check it out
>First post is "This game is so fucking fun!"
Maybe /v/ has skewed my image, but my first reaction was to assume that that post was a shill.
>>339474496
Evolve.
>>339474771
No. It's a bad game doing badly.
It was poorly advertised, tried to compete with a bigger, better game and honestly, low player count is due to people who own the game not playing it. It's sold 100k+ on PC, but averages 2-3k peak a day? That's fucking terrible and these are owners of the game who don't even want to play it.
The game is bad, and outside of it's small defence force, anyone who has played it will tell you it's bad.
>>339474496
wtf are you talking there are literally 1017 people online on steam playing it.
The game is totally dead.
You want to know how a game looks like on PC?
You wait in queu 12 mins and more and when the game starts people surrender in 5 minutes and you have to queue up again and dont even make me start how unbalanced the matches are because of low player count, I saw literally lvl 100 accounts playing against people under lvl 10
>>339474891
Battleborn is failing faster and harder than even Evolve.
>>339474895
>have a friend who is trying to convince me to buy it and play it
>>339474395
Nobody ever wants to not make money, the closest you get is after a sizable investment in a product that you have now discovered is going to fail for any number of reasons you may release it anyway to attempt to minimize your losses, facilitate some creative accounting, stock price manipulation or other such purposes. Only "artists" tend to do shit like planned failures and they do it for petty spiteful reasons.
People who produce nothing but flops are pushed out of the industry quickly, people who have an inconsistent success rate get to hang around. As long as you made someone a lot of money once there's always someone else who's going to give you a chance.
>>339474962
And evolve's the only thing to have ever failed anywhere near as fast :v
>>339475058
Nah, other games have failed pretty hard too, Evolve was just talked about a lot on /v/ so we all know of it.
But given Stillborn had an estimated $60-70 million budget, these numbers so shortly after release make it a fucking massive failure. Even on consoles it's dropped off the popularity charts entirely.
>>339472342
>tfw you try to paste battleborn over dota2 but can't even be assed to photoshop the color or even make battleborn look like the second most played

Mei butt too.
>>339475445
I'd never even heard of Battleborn if it weren't for /v/ viral marketing
>>339475445
Battleborn wasn't advertised.
Competition was released around the same time that did advertise (a lot).
It has some of the worst aesthetics I've ever seen in a video game.
It has no memorable characters.
The videos of it look bad (and honestly playing it is much worse).
It's part of a genre that has a very high failure rate.
>>339471049
You wanna know the funny thing? Overwatch has been doing this exact same thing to me. I'll quit the game, come back hours later, open the launcher and it'll say the game is still running. Even if I closed battle.net. I have to manually shut it down by eliminating the process. I still don't get why it happens.
>>339475445
Both are garbage but one is from Blizzard and the other from Gearbox, Blizzard simply just have more retards.
>>339475445

also overwatch gets the blizzard bonus while battleborn suffers from gearbox's rather dubious reputation.
>>339475665
>I still don't get why it happens.
inflate game statistics, both for publicity (see how many people are playing our game, it must be good!) and for impressing the share holders (bump up stock prices, by making game seem more popular than it is).
Basically same thing Gearbox is doing, except Gearbox is also gaming the Steam statistics to increase sales.
>>339475916

The marketing for this game was fuck all. Like I know that /v/ gets rightfully annoyed with too much money being funneled into marketing but there was no marketing at all for Battleborn. Only this week I found out that the game is a FPS game with Dota/Moba/ARTS elements.
That and explicitly going head to head with a Blizzard game is absolutely bananas. There's a reason why a lot of games avoid releasing in the same release window as Call of Duty.
battleborn looks bad, but lets not get retarded
the process hung on his computer and he was too stupid to kill it/notice he was still running a game and now hes trying to make a conspiracy out of it

No disability here though I'm sure I could talk to a psychologist and they could analyze me with some fucked up head.

An impulse purchase. It seemed alright and was like 25 euros on a cd key site. It was fun for a time, but the amount of glitches, collision errors and balance issues along with increasingly dwindling playerbase just couldn't keep me interested in it anymore.
>>339472342
I don't know why you keep posting this shit. It's not funny like you think it is.
>>339474962
I guess that's kind of relative. Evolve bled players really fast, but Battleborn doesn't even have that many players to begin with.
I don't think it's so much an issue of one being a worse situation than the other, one just got marketed the fuck out of and the other one didn't.
>>339478071

Rent A Center prays on the mentally handicapped, the old and the desperate. The only good deals in the store are Washers/Dryers and phones. Tv's can often be found at a fair enough price when they go on sale, but they are hard to get a hold off since we market them to existing customers over the phone.
Consoles were straight up terrible, though. Some came back with fluids, random scratches, shitloads of personal information loaded up on them and shit like that. One time we got one covered in MLP stickers.
The worst part? Customers don't know how internet dependant new gen consoles are, and most RAC stores in NE Ohio didn't have wi-fi.
>Time after time people would Rent an Xbox
>Tell them it requires an online activation before they can play it, since it gets nuked back to factory settings
>All agree that they can handle it
>Get angry calls within the hour about how their shitty brat can't play CoD with his buddies and the Xbox is stuck on a black screen.
>Same shit with Ps4s and their need for Ps+ and the day one patch
Shit happened every day, man. This one guy who lived in a trailer that smelled of piss gave us a good 2k+ a month for phones, a 4k TV and a Ps4 he got for Destiny, a TV stand and tablets. Shit was nuts.
>His name was "Mr Howard."
>Calls to complain that his tv is much too dark to play Destiny and it doesn't look right
>Go over with a shitty five dollar HDMI cable
>He has statues of Dragons fucking everywhere

As much shit as Blizzard might catch (rightfully so, in most cases), there is not a single developer in the industry that's as shitty as Gearbox. If, by some fucking miracle of god, they somehow managed to make a good game, I'd refuse to buy it entirely because of how shitty they are.
They're actual fucking criminals. They've stolen money from SEGA, they've lied with press demos, they've denied royalties to a crippled man that has to take care of a wife with lupus. I'm not making that last one up, despite how absurdly cartoonish it sounds. Randy Pitchford is a fucking scumbag, and Gearbox deserves to collapse spectacularly.

As much as I hate Gearbox I actually feel sorry for the rank and file devs that made Battleborn. Captain Randy thought it was a brilliant idea to steer right into the iceberg that is Overwatch and then proceeds to yell about sloppy hamburgers whilst his staff will probably get laid off.

It's not even the worst thing to happen at that store. We once got back a "faptop" filled with Furry porn, straight from the fucking get go. Like user image, desktop backgrounds, everything. The fucking thing stank like cigarettes and had "sticky stuff" all over it, as one of our employees put it to the repair center. They told us to bag it and tag it as a loss, which we ended up doing.
One of the girls almost broke down in tears when another employee said "That thing smells like Jizz, man." All because she touched it without gloves. The worst part of this is, though, we were on the phone trying to rent it back to him within a day, but he wouldn't take it since "it was used."
A lot of really, really stupid and mentally disturbed people walked through those doors every motherfucking day. Rent A Center caters to them, though, and they did it gladly.
The amount of piss-smelling trailers filled with cats, trash and literal shit I had to walk into every week was unbelievable.
The smells are coming back to me as I type this shit. It was horrible, I would come home and throw all of my shit straight into the washer and shower, but the smell never really leaves you.

In the first game, playing as sniper with primarily revolvers and sniper rifles isfun. The revolvers had very strange but varied types (like mashers for short range or powerful slower ones for mid range), and fire elemental snipers were hilarious to shoot people with. It certainly balanced out the problems with the game for me until it reaches that point where enemies ALL start level scaling (which is stupid as fuck, the whole point of allowing levels is so you can get stronger than them if you really need to).
And then 2 happened, and they forgot how to do anything right.Besides rocket launchers, they were the one single improvement that kept me playing for more than a couple of hours. Then I gave up.

I THINK (i.e. don't quote me on this) that 1.3.2, the next update, is going to be the last major content boost. The latest one that just dropped was mainly a wire mechanics enhancer so it wasn't very big.
Red and his team are the most goddamn dedicated people I've known in recent years, they actually put real effort into what they do.
>>339482856
It's amusing and terrifying really. The students I have frequently go to me for tech support for reasons like "what's a password?" "how do I access my email account?" "how do I access this link (the link was a URL that could be easily copied and pasted into the address bar)?" Meanwhile when I go on yard supervision I see them all on laptops and smartphones, this made me realized that all the seemingly unnecessarily convoluted Steam security shit was to protect teenagers.
Like my first rule with young teens (13-15) after experience is to assume they're all fucking idiots until proven otherwise. 16-18 is when I start treating teens as responsible young people.
Dozens of games come out on steam every single day and the majority get a wholly unremarkable amount of sales, and are never talked about on /v/ because there's no reason to.
So why the fuck talk about this of all things?
>>339477260
>renting furniture
do people really do this? I mean realtors for sure so they can class up a place for better sales, but who else would rent furniture?

I want to see evolve and battleborn side by side at launch date. Obviously evolve is totally dead now.
>>339483250

>>339476980
This artstyle is just fucking awful. In motion this is just painful to look at.
>>339483382
What's the point of taking two different games that have nothing to do with each other and pitting them against each other in an imaginary fight?
"Isn't it hilarious how badly Witcher 3 beat Scrapyard Mechanic in sales? Shouldn't have released the same day, ha ha what idiots thinking they could compete!"
>>339471430
The art design is horrible, jesus christ.
It is not possible to report any playtime using the Steamworks SDK. This is completely handled by Steam and this stuff happens exclusively when the game does not close properly, which may or may not be part of a big scheme to seem alive.
>>339471217
>because games like to not close properly a lot of the time.
This literally never happens.
>>339472261
I wonder how long these fuck nuts will take to realize that the only way the fps genre can be fun is by having the player take and deal high amounts of damage and where skill is the primary factor for success and not time played in game.

That's not made up, it's a real issue. My computer has a very quiet case and 6 fans, it never went crazy hot.
Then I played DS3 and my computer started boiling, speccy showed it reaching almost 80c on the CPU and the computer made noises it never had before.
DS3 is fucked, something went very wrong there. Witcher 3 doesn't take anywhere near as much consumption.
