Even if not #1 they're still close to the PS4 in AMERICA which is the only place they really care and enough to make money from.
Can someone tell me why anyone would buy an Xbox. The only exclusive that might interest me is Halo and that's it, whilst the PS has a whole bunch.

With them embracing PC gaming again (through windows 10) I think there will be less of a reason to buy an xbox unless you're not into building gaming computers or buying gaming based laptops. I'm personally fine with this but they need to actually improve the app framework and make their store vastly better if they expect to compete now that they shifted their rival from being Sony to being Valve.
