Sims 2, always after hours of playing and forgetting to save manually and it crashes.
That's the main thing that puts me off with Fallout 4's survival mode. For such a buggy game, not having auto/quicksaves is fucked.

Fug. Played Deus Ex for the first time the other day, the 2000 version. Enjoyed myself for about 4 hours, then got killed. I took a break and left the PC.
To my fucking horror when I came back to the game there were no save files/continue option.

that's fine, makes it easier to properly balance the game -- difficulty modes typically just shift enemy stats and make a mess anyway (only a few rare games had proper modes individually balanced and with additions)
no modes is only a problem when players are seen as brain dead 3 years old -- and there's also no separate challenges

There are games that feel like you're constantly zoomed in like a rifle scope without FoV tweaks. Vanilla Morrowind in widescreen is one of them. It's unplayable.
Doesn't have to be extreme fisheye mode.

Yeah problem is a lot of games use(d) fixed horizontal fov and change vertical fov accordingly. So when you increase the width of the screen, your vertical fov gets smaller.
Don't know why they didn't use fixed vertical fov instead. Works much better, since screens only get wider, not narrower.

I never understood why this still "can" happen.
I could understand on old memory cards because limited space, but on some hard drive with gigs of free space you could just write the save to a temporary destination and only replace the old one which is near instant when on the same filesystem (even a power outage wouldn't fuck this up, the old save would still be there with just a corrupted temporary file)

a lot of games do cool things with difficulty like new enemies/enemy placement
some do new bosses
some make enemies weaker so their harder to properly combo
Hell even pokemon had a better hard mode than just stronger enemies weaken you.
