but aesthetics are important. post-apo cyberpunk where you explore abandoned hi-tech ruins and slowly learn about humanity downfall through small pieces of lore is great idea, even if difference between normal souls and this is "just aesthetics".
>>

>>
>>339353321
Probably. They're pumping these out like crazy. 3 games, 4 DLCs since 2014.
>>
>>339352158
Melee does more damage, duh. Mechs do actually work well with this system since bullets hitting like spitballs requires less suspension of disbelief than hitting normal people in spandex.

>>339352775
I want variety after the shitfest of "more of the same" in DS3. I would not be opposed to a Souls that somehow crammed MGR-like gameplay into the normal formula, co-op action (and even crazier bosses to compensate) and all.

Less upgrading, less special snowflake weapons that are just normal weapon + gimmick, more abilities per weapon, more focus on player skill. Bloodborne did most of this correctly, but sci-fi can go so much further especially with ranged weapons added to the mix.

Killy, a silent loner possessing an incredibly powerful weapon known as a Gravitational Beam Emitter, wanders a vast technological world known as "The City". He is searching for Net Terminal Genes, a (possibly) extinct genetic marker that allows humans to access the "Netsphere", a sort of computerized control network for The City. The City is an endless vertical space of artificially-constructed walls, stairways and caverns, separated into massive "floors" by nearly-impenetrable barriers known as "Megastructure". The City is inhabited by scattered human and transhuman tribes as well as hostile cyborgs known as Silicon Creatures.

I was thinking more of something in between. Armored Core achieved this balance with a bias towards ranged weapons. We can just tip the balance and focus the other way without too much trouble. Still prefer something more grounded and less aerial than AC though.
>>
>>339352158
Mass Effect deals with this via kinetic barriers, they're designed to deflect projectiles travelling at harmful speed, but a sword is slow enough to bypass them. It's why melee is so overpowered in the series.

>>

Battle Angel Alita didn't really strike me as horrifying in any way and souls games kinda need that undertone. I kind of get where you are coming from but the opportunity that a Blame! derived setting could give to a souls like game is immense.

How can anyone who hasn't played from the start (DeS or DaS) not be bored of the Souls formula by now? It's stale as shit, the only thing a sci-fi Souls game would do well is aesthetics, the rest of it would be the same gameplay we've had over and over again. I like Souls games but I think it's time to let it die, it's already bordering on CoD levels of endless resurrection.

I'd take a Bloodborne sci-fi game.

Well, people with low standards and bad taste, maybe.

I'd really like to see a sci-fi game which takes place in the Space Age of Exploration. Early 22nd century maybe, where humanity hasn't quite made it out of the solar system yet, but it's getting there.

There's colonies on all the terrestrial planets, besides Mercury of course, and then some on Jupiter's and Saturn's moons. Piracy would be a big problem in the asteroid belt, and there would be tensions between Earth and the colonies for independence and shit.

It'd be pretty hard sci-fi. Spacecraft would be pretty fragile, and fights would end quick. Boarding would be common, and melee combat would rule again. Why? Because on relatively small spacecraft, one bad bullet could depressurize the whole thing and kill everyone. And I don't mean flashy energy blades, I'm talking about good, ol' steel.

Thoughts?
>>
I know /v/ hates steampunk, but I'd love a steampunkish Souls set in a Laputa-like world of floating islands and airships. The world would be constantly changing, areas would connect differently depending on which bosses you've beaten, or actions you've taken.
A mechanic of temporary flight/propulsion would be fun, where enemies can take flight and you have to deal with it by making leaps into the air to attack.

>>339354565
>point is you just want the same game with a different coat of paint
Yes, I think that's what we've been saying.

Sword sheaths are the one new thing they add in this game. The sad thing is people would probably lap it up and praise it for being "innovative".

Not hard enough. It is literally for dancing, not for a human-sized guy slicing up a traditionally gigantic Souls boss while avoiding all the nearby buildings getting knocked to pieces.

Yes MGR is a real meme game but I just want that kind of feel to appear at least once in a Souls game with the progression and exploration combined with fights that were more bombastic and less "mundane estoc pokes 5-story tall demon to death".

The challenge and atmosphere of facing down great odds would still be there but there would be less crestfallen knights and more over-the-topness. Trying to write out this description is getting a little cringey but COME ON ITS 2016.

Aztec souls would literally be the same game as regular dark souls, just with a new layer of paint.

I wouldn't play space souls because sci-fi with melee focus makes no sense at all.

Bug souls (assuming you mean playing as bugs) actually sounds like a new take, though.

I feel like they shouldn't make any more fantasy games in this series. It'll just get stale.
Obviously they want to keep making these games, half because they make so much money, but I also think this is somewhere Miyazaki shines. I can't make any claim to know the man, but he obviously enjoys making these games, telling a story in this way, building this kind of world.
He's said he wants to try different things, and I think he should. I'd love to see what sort of kiddie game he could come up with. But eventually I think he'll end up coming back to this.
I just hope they can continue to come up with interesting ideas for these games.

Souls isn't really that horrifying. Bloodborne had that kind of horror theme, but not so much Souls.
BAA actually does have some pretty ghastly and weird parts that almost feel like sci-fi Berserk, like all of Desty Nova's experiments.
It doesn't feel horrifying because Alita is almost always in control, but even then it's not always the case, when people she cares for die horribly. It fills a lot of requirements, actually.
-Dystopian environment filled with scumbags and 'afflicted' people who have gone mad and need to be put down before they murder people (crazed cyborgs)
-Factions that are almost entirely unknown to the average person, each with their own highly suspect agenda and actions (Barjack, Hunter Warriors, Tiphares, Nova in his own right, etc. - these could be built-in covenants, even)
-Both giant cybernetic monsters and normal badass dudes make for solid boss designs
-Built-in explanation as to why you'd use mostly melee weapons and hardly ever see guns
-The MC gets their shit wrecked and effectively dies all the time, but manages to keep going by virtue of sheer resolve

I mean, imagine just showing up at the Scrapyard after the Zapan disaster or after the destruction of Bojack. It'd be mostly abandoned, and the few people you meet would either be unreliable or insane. No one knows what's going on, but everyone points to Tiphares to find the answers. It's an ideal setting for a Souls-like game.
>>
>>339354826
I'm not talking about "keep this filled or you die". Shifting gravity or lack of gravity as level design. Lack of oxygen as a "your character is hallucinating shit / seeing this other way you can's see but your defense or reflexes or health is lowered" or some shit. Have some imagination.

>>339354913
I want Pikmin Souls, Poncle Souls. Chibi Souls.
Exploring a world of undergrowth, fighting tiny beasts and stealing their skeletons to forge armor and weapons.

I'd also like the other two.
And I'd like to point out 2 things.
1. If a new Souls game is a "coat of paint" that's fine, because people keep coming back to this series, despite only one of the games being very different. People just want more of this style of game.
2. Who says an Aztec themed Souls game wouldn't be interesting? Who knows what sort of mechanics they might come up with for such an idea. When we first heard about Project Beast we all expected it to just be Souls with a coat of paint, but it turned out to be very different.

I don't really know why you so hate the idea of a Souls game that isn't set in a Tolkien, european fantasy world. Bloodborne proved that the formula can work in a different setting with a different combat style, and it even showed how magic can be turned into something else entirely, with the guns, and blood weapons, but they also had a more familiar kind of magic with the hunter tools.
I don't see why they should stagnate in the same setting with these games, or why they should kill the series and never make another. There should be more Souls games because people love them, and they should be innovative because why would you want them to stagnate?

>>339354942
The point is to find inspiration on how to make the Soulsborne formula different. BB merely made things slightly faster with almost no shields available and that was enough to leave a favorable impression with a lot of people.

If COD can add jetpacks into their game and still be accused of being too much of the same, Souls can afford to let the pace be more speedy while keeping to the spirit of the genre.

It's not an instant KO. You'd be able to patch your armor. The only way it'd be a KO is for your armor first to be compromised, and then for a depressurization.
>>
>>339351258
It's a proven fact that Souls is only good when it's world aesthetic and character designs are closest to western origin.

Hence why the game gets worse the more oversized swords and metal fat-suits show up.

It's just science.
>>
>>339355671

>>
If they are going to take the series into a more futuristic (or even modern) setting, they need to make firearms much more viable as mainline weapons.
>>
>>339355005
It'd be better if it wasn't percentage based. It could sort of be like poise, where your armor has its own health, and weapons have a separate special type of damage that only hurts it.

And then explain the poise/armor integrity regeneration with nano machines
>>
>>339355671
Situational RNG-based instant KO is still an instant KO.

Make it more armor degradation based. So it's preventable. Armor breaks in a depressurized environment, you fucking die.

See that's still the instant KO, but without the RNG. RNG is awful, if you can avoid using it, then avoid using it.

I don't want another Souls game to be made, ever again.
From feels it's a good time to end the series. The original creator feels the story's done, and the gameplay concepts have been explored.
I want to see what From will do. I've loved From since I played AC1 on a demo disc, been following them the whole time. They're a good company that makes good games. So when they announced they're not doing another Souls game, I was happy.

Now Souls won't be ruined by yearly or biennial releases, constantly being iterated until we get bored of it. Do you want Souls to be like Call of Duty? Of course you don't.

We've got a lot of great games out of the series. In seven years, we have five games. That's more than one, every year. Plus the expansions that came out. There are hundreds of hours of content for you to revisit, between all the games.
