It's genuinely the best game i've played, Witcher 3 might have won more awards but I don't know, Bloodborne just hit the right notes for me. It was so fucking good. Witcher 3 is fun and all but the setting is so fucking generic ("b-but it's a lot darker than generic Tolkien bullshit!") that I always crave the criminally underused lovecraftian/victorian england setting found in Bloodborne. I don't know man, Bloodborne is infinitely more memorable of the two.

Ok, how so then? It's definitely in the argument of one of the best games of the 2000s. It's a breath of fresh air from most open world meme AAA trash with more hand holding than Ubishit.
The world design was fantastic, setting was unique (by gaming standards), gameplay is the best i've played in any Action RPG (possibly even Action game, period. Though Devil May Cry 3/4 is pretty fucking GOAT) and the lore/story (while very subtle and miniscule) is engaging as fuck.
The Lovecraft twist at around the half way point was also one of the biggest "Woaaaaah Shit!" moments i've had in vidya and the game just oozed atmosphere.

BB has several flaws when it comes to originality because it is way too heavily influenced by Lovecraft's works. It goes too into showing abominations and doesn't let enough space for imagination and interpretation unlike Lovecraft's novels.

By the same token I could just as easily say that the Witcher is the most generic medieval piece of shit ever with a completely uninspired world and characters that are not in the same dimension of artistic value as Bloodborne or any Souls game for that matter. The Witcher basically requires solid writing because it's the only way that the game is in any way interesting, and even so the presentation is the most straightforward unimaginative thing ever. It's a dialogue simulator that is being touted as some Magnum opus of writing even though it pales in comparison to shit like Fallout or Deus Ex, both franchises with not only strong as fuck writing but also very interesting and inspired worlds that have an actual message and theme behind them. Witcher is basically a decently written soap opera that's satisfied with just some grey morality, but as a whole its a forgettable narrative.

THEN AGAIN, I kinda enjoyed Souls 3 at least because its world is somewhat varied and from time to time I feel like wrecking a boss by pressing dodge button when he attacks and attacking him twice. He's not wrong at all. Many bosses have too much health for no reason other than to make the fight "feel epic" only because it takes forever.
What it really does is make the fight boring and lets you see the entire moveset of the monster long before the fight is over.
So it's interesting for 30% of the fight and the extra couple moves after halfway then becomes a fucking slog for the rest of it.

And besides you don't have to have obsessive verticality in order to emulate the world design of DaS.
The world can be built in a circle/square/sphere/prism/triangle/etc. Any shape that can connect at multiple points. And besides this you can still have specific warp points that link to specific areas in order to overcome gaps and it can still feel connected. (I don't mean the ability to warp anywhere from any warp. Warp A goes to B and vice versa but they don't connect to any other points.)

Sorry about the late reply. Ye get Sin of the First Scholar, it includes all the dlc and has balance changes, etc included: it's like Prepare to Die Edition for ds2.
Also I should say I played through mg and ng+ and didn't find a single instance where the hitboxes were as fucked as people say. My biggest complains were that they employed a tad too many ganksquads especially at the start and that a couple enemies (big guys) had bullshit tracking on you but it was literally a case if getting gud since you could learn to play around it.
The game is not nearly as bad as people say.

Being mind numbingly easy and repetitive isn't fine. It's boring, and it fails at making you feel powerful like Gerard should be. All the writing in the world can't do shit if the gameplay is in itself immersion breaking. It's like how in Skyrim the dragon shouts were supposed to be some powerful shit but they're virtually useless.
And again, the writing is undermined by the boring presentation of the game. The dialogue is tackled not different from how a star wars prequel would. It's all over the shoulder shot/reverse shot with no real choreography or dynamic to the scene. The Witcher games are not even dynamic enough to be called movie games, they're literally books in game form. They need to detail everything through dialogue because the devs can't into visual story telling, nor can they come up with a creative way to deliver exposition.
In the end, Bloodborne may not have the trademark "writing" that the Witcher has, but it manages to tell a story through a much more imaginative and engaging manner while not compromising the gameplay. Everything in Bloodborne works towards its story, be it item design and descriptions, NPCs, level design, sound design, music, gameplay, you name it. It might not have the super detailed dialogue that the Witcher has but the fact that it managed to deliver a much more interesting story thats presented in a unique way that elevates the game to an artistic height your decently written but by the numbers RPG could never even hope to reach. The fact that the Witcher is a better story than a game is enough to illustrate the developers painful amateurism.

It feels like they developed the games lore around the events at byrgenwerth, the following split and the events that take place in yharnam with the hunts and then ran out of time
They obviously wanted to do something more with the pthumerian city side of things, the sliced up chalices and shit like that is indication enough, they probably had some intentions to set up a wider mythology type scenario like how they did in dark souls, albeit somewhat more subtle.
I heavily disliked their implementation of the great ones within the game as well, although there is certainly some weight to giving these "creatures" uncertain motivations, and undefinable characteristics, I felt that the designers never really elevated them to feeling anything more than dumb creatures apart from the moon presence. The games implementations of the nightmare concepts part felt rushed as, frontier was useless, mensis felt poorly unconnected etc.
In addition, I largely found the NPC's to be awful, apart from the well made eileen and Alfred lines, they felt underdeveloped as fuck, everything in the oedon chapel especially.
I like how Bloodborne has an original feeling stlye and everything, but I think the witcher 3 had both a much better realised overall world, much better writing in terms of NPC's and dialogue, and much better use of motivations and reasoning behind events that take place in the game.
I find that by comparison, BB feels massively unfinished.
