let's discuss one of the best megaman series to date.
>>
I miss the virtual reality setting

I have yet to find another game with the amount of customization at your disposal regarding your battle setup. The styles, souls, crosses, folder, chip combos, PA's, navi customizer, it's all so good. Taking all of that and putting it all together with an engaging battle system with a wide variety of enemies and bosses makes it one of my favorite series of all time. I really wish I could find something else like it.
>>
It's unfortunate they betrayed us with the series. :(
>>
i'm almost done re playing starforce 1 should i skip replaying 2 and play 3 or endure the pain for the hell of it.
Also why is BN6 so easy
>>
>>339327216

Just skip 2 since 3 is amazing
>>
>>339327216
If you skip to 3 you might not be able to tolerate going back, otherwise skip to the only game in the series that still holds up.

Reminder that Heatman is the catalyst to Mr Match being a bro

because heatman is the best navi
>>
>>339334982
why the fuck does lan trust fucking match in every goddamn game

at least elec man had a different op when he showed up again
>>
http://forums.therockmanexezone.com/topic/8886349/1/

Why the fuck would you translate Falzar instead of Gregar first like really nigga
>>
>>339325851
3 = 2 > 6 > 5 = 1 > 4
>>
>>339335329
Because technically he's been a pretty cool guy about half the time.

BN1: setting houses on fire through the oven
BN2: Minding his own business being a cool dude with Heatman
BN3: tries to melt Lan's dad with the shittiest navi ever
BN4: Tries to help a hotdog selling girl but turns her marriage proposal down because he's gay
BN5: mysteriously missing
BN6: your super cool mentor that you'll forget tried to kill your mom and dad

it's funny that he's gotten away with all this shit when people like Count Zap and Gauss Magnus are still in prison for what they did
>>
>>339335352
6 was already localized, what is this about?
>>
>>339335727
US/EU versions of the game got a lot of late game content removed

https://tcrf.net/Mega_Man_Battle_Network_6#Regional_Differences
>>
>>339335668
The entirety of the series takes place over like 2-3 years or something, trials can take forever

iirc 4 and 5 take place over summer break or something, then Lan moves away to Cyber City

Reading that OP there, what did it finally add for Gregar? What did it mean by just "multiplayer purposes"?
>>
>>339335727
6's localization butchered a lot of shit in order to take out the Boktai crossover

for some reason this ended up doing something like never turning off the Crisis Music in post-game.
>>
>>339336073
Nothing yet, some stuff is translated but all the dialog and story related stuff has glitched text
>>
>>339336220
Oy. Gregar is the only dual version I haven't played at all. Why would they go for Falzar first? From what I see, Gregar's way fucking cooler. How hard could this be to apply to Gregar anyway?

Network Transmission is what you're thinking of. It was sort of a spinoff. Never played it myself but I think the gameplay was pretty different from the GBA games.

It was, cause they went full on static map navigation where you just moved a pointer around to whatever map you wanted to go to, then when you jacked in, you got a 2D platformer with 3D design. Then, if you didn't do anything, you could look at Lan stand around in his room in a 3D environment. The neato thing was that for every rogue Netnavi that you fought, you got a figure of them in your room. Plus, the pre-last boss music was beautiful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92YMDfR0iNg

After this kicked in, I just sat around for like, 20 minutes enjoying it before going like "Aw nuts, I gotta leave behind the hype music and actually beat the game."
>>
>>339349525
Clarification because I realized I made my post confusing: If you don't access your computer/start menu (It's been a while, I don't quite remember), you can see Lan's 3D room. If you want to do anything related to the game, you've gotta access the menu, go to the map, and then find where in town you're having problems and need to go. Then, when you jack in, you get your 2D platformer with 3D models.

Speaking of Network Transmission - I don't know why, but I kinda liked the Zero design from that game. I kinda wish they'd bring it back.

Then again, they kinda let Mega Man become a dead IP, and the massive desire for Mighty No 9 kinda confirms that.

It isn't about bringing Megaman back.
They don't want to bring Megaman back to the old fans, they want to give it to a new younger audience. Basically, they want to get rid of the old fans and embrace new ones. The old fans will be discarded.

>One of the two Mega Man series (out of 7) to get an actual ending

Three actually.

I figured out the pattern.

If at any point there is a proper Mega Man fighting robots, typically mavericks, then the series never ends. (Classic, Legends, X, ZX).

If the main character somehow breaks the mold from start to finish, then the series gets a proper ending. (Zero, BN, SF)

ZX would have been spared from the curse if not for starting with fucking Model X.

Is this the series that ripped of Revolution 60?

Well I think a part of that is that some of them were designed by fans, but it would have been good to have Number Man to become official, or get someone like Gate Man. Probably would have been better than having robot masters that were retreads of stuff like Chill Man, Nitro Man, and Commando Man.

It's really ironic how visionary this series was. This predicted the internet becoming a huge thing, before the internet was a huge thing, without actually using the internet.

This is what they missed with Starforce. No, radio waves are not visionary and don't make any useful commentary about anything. A real sequel series to MMBN would do something unique or meaningful. For example, why not incorporate actual online elements into it, ala Dark Souls? It would actually work

Battle Network 1 was all about terrorism and it came out in March of 2001, just a couple of months before 9/11. The later games toned it down a bit and you didn't see people collapsing in the street of water poisoning or cars crashing and exploding but I'm still blown away at how they envisioned a digital world trying to survive terrorism instead of something more "conventional" like national warfare which is the old norm for belligerent activity.

There's actually some very clever themes concerning networking and software in these games. For example, 2 was about glitches and bugs. Eventually enough bugs piled up to create a major disaster in the form of Gospel. 3 takes this further, where the very nature of the internet itself becomes the main villain, in the form of legacy code. The new software was build onto of the old one, and they just kept adding more and more, until the features and flaws of the old system popped up in the form of Alpha.

People say these are stupid kids' games, but they're actually pretty clever.

>>
>>339383282

After spending so much time on that game I can confirm whoever's saying that is probably meaning something entirely different or just has a messed up head

Here I can write a flowchart for him right now
>Is he far?
Be ready for his flamethrower and slide under the fire. Attack from a distance otherwise.
>Is he close?
He's going to use Burner. Slide under him, attack, choose to repeat or go far again. He can't move fast and only has three attacks. The third is an extreme version of Burner that only happens under the same circumstance of distance when he has less HP.

Essentially, Gutsman is basically the same except replace the slow flamethrower with a much, MUCH quicker quake that you need to be trained to see coming. Replace Burner with Gutspunch, and the extreme Burner with a jumping quake he can do anytime (which is really slow and easy to react to anyway) and there you go, second boss is marginally but effectively harder.

Don't even get me started on Gravityman and Protoman, those two are where the tears really begin to roll.
>>
>>339380652
That kind of stuff could only really come around endgame. I liked being able to run from battles and know where the fuck I'm going. Can't do that with BN1.

>>
>>339385403

There's a timing to his barrier. As soon as he sees an attack coming, there'll be a split millisecond right before it's in his face, that's when his barrier activates. You need to bait out the barrier activation and wait until it ends.

The cool thing is that he's not fast at all and can't jump, so you can easily bait out his barrier with a single shot of the buster going right above his head. You can see him doing his taunt going "awooooohhhh". When that taunt/sound cue ends immediately after is when you're supposed to attack him. Once you get this down, he's pretty dang easy.

Navi chips are also a good alternative if he's not doing anything, since they completely freeze time.

Because the inherent function of airhockey is to hit navis multiple times and chaining it with any version of airhockey, which is already more powerful than a vulcan and staggers any navi multiple times. It is a gamebreaking chip.

That references the twist in BN1 that Megaman is Lan's dead twin brother Hub brought back as data so their DNA would sync up and cause that effect unless Megaman's was altered by 0.001%. The Hub.bat that you get across the series is that missing piece, where installing it gives great power at the cost of that effect. It gets installed into Megaman at the end of BN1 as part of the plot, but in games afterwards it's just a powerful program (or style in BN2's case) you can install if you find it.

Randomizing the tournament outcomes was kind of a cool concept in a sense. The execution was just really bad.
If you and a couple friends were all playing through at the same time you'd all end up with different souls even between the same versions.

Of course you eventually unlock all of them anyway after replaying the whole damn game 3 times...

>>339341126
>>339399393
Oddly enough I had the most trouble with the Meteor Comp, or whatever that dungeon before you fight Duo was called.

You have to hit these switches in order under a time limit all while being bombarded with random encounters.
I dont remember having trouble with it at all as a kid but I guess the alcohol and drug abuse has taken its toll.
It was like discovering a blind spot in my brain. I could not for the life of me handle random encounters and still remember where I was supposed to be going next.
>>
>>339405154
I think he means SF2, because that's covered under 'series'. SF2 is flat-out a flawed game with an obnoxiously high encounter rate combined with a battle system that isn't as fluid as SF3s, leading to a clunky feeling that's a struggle to overcome.

>Way better risk/reward than Dork chips if you ask me.
Beast was super cool but I disagree.
Dark chips were really one of the few redeeming features of MMBN4 and 5 for me.

It's not like Beasting Over cumulatively built up a hidden value that altered your play-style by way of unlocking a set of chips and program advance that can only be used after you've Beasted Over enough times.

That probably would've been really fucking cool.
