It's hard to say but I think X2 has better level design than X1, in other hand, X1 has more content (longer stages, more bosses) and it's presentation (music, enemy graphical design) is better than X2.
I would kill for Maverick Hunter X2, a version like that of X2 would fix everything and will add good content to the game.

They are, but do remember they are nothing like the platformer installments. The tone is also pretty goofy (even with all the terrorism).
BN 1 is awkward due to being the first, but do play it first, because the other ones will spoil you and you won't be able to go back.
The only BN not worth it's salts is BN4. 2, 3, and 6 are great, 5's also alright but it still has a bit of weirdness to it in the form of liberation missions.

Why? If it's the name that's no reason to get upset. It's a good choice on several levels. This new series isn't going to be about Rock. The entire thing is designed to grab new fans so it can go another 30 years. The whole thing is more than likely part of capcom taking a more critical look at what they should do with their properties. And before you say they could just release a new MM game I'll remind you each new game was selling worse than the one before it. A retool is exactly what is needed.

Basically they need to focus test. A cartoon is a good way to do it. Puts the character back in the public eye. Can spark nostalgia with people talking about and playing the old games. They'll get feedback from that and make decisions going forward based on that.
