Maybe it's because it's from a no name indie company making lofty claims who only previous experince is making shit tier mobile games. All while using the buzz phrase that is procedural generation as thier only defining trait. Except that fantastical trait started and stopped "defining" jack shit with Minecraft. Maybe it's because they are now for the third time delaying release. Maybe it's because nobody around here wants another fucking walking simulator. Maybe it's because every demo shown thus far has been absolutely underwhelming by today's standards of excellence. Maybe it's because the devs a being shady as fuck about really basic features. There is a very fine line between "leaving something for the players to discover" and doing simple questions.

Honestly, everytime an underwhelming looking game is coming out. There is always some group of people hyping/shilling the fuck out of the game for months and even years, but as soon as it drops suddenly everyones shitting on it and its panned by critics as being exactly what it looked like from the get go. This shit has happened with Titanfall, Halo 5, The Order, Quantum Break, and soon to be NMS.

Mark my words as soon as this shit releases everyones gonna either forget about it or everyone will just bash it.

I'm not even talking about /v/ in this instance. I frequent a few gaming sites and everytime an article gets posted about NMS (like the delay that just happened) all the comments boil down to 80% of them being about , "This looks great!" or "I am hyped". It reeks of shilling because none of them have any idea why it looks good to them, they never explain anything, they're just trying to fit in with some clique or group in most cases.

Then you have the other 20% who actually list off reasons why its looks shit and why they're not buying it. Then here comes the 80% to shit all over them with strawmen and fallacie galore. Drowning them out.

>So basically what we have here is a glorified Single player Open World Sandbox

Which is weird because that's pretty much what the retarded "muh hueg open wurld to explore" memers have been crying for for ages in every thread about what people want in games.

>From the trailers and demos I've bothered to look at, it just seems like a "fly around and look at/name things" game

That's been one of the major issues surrounding the game's promotion. Nearly every bit of gameplay we've been shown has been 'fly around and look at/name things'. They've mentioned stuff like space combat, trading and stuff like that but have never properly demonstrated it. If it's there, show it to us. Maybe that's what people are excited over? Even though they haven't actually seen it for themselves.

>>339313286
>I do not understand the hate for this game

As far as I see, it's not so much hate just people who are really skeptical about how broad and varied the gameplay actually is. You essentially have your 'excited/hyped' camp - which may or may not include people who expect more than what's actually going to be there day one - and you have the other camp that simply aren't convinced the in's and out's of what you actually 'do' have been properly elaborated on and/or explained.

Critics don't play games long enough, they usually only play games for a few hours before writing their reviews, especially ones like this where there is no defined ending. I reckon it'll get praised by critics but panned by players.
