Eh... there are newer games that have been able to make role playing more immersive and nuanced based on your decisions.
I mean no video game has done roleplaying as well as D&D or something like that. But Morrowind has tons of mods and lots of flexibility so you can play pretty much whatever you'd like.
You will probably find your roleplaying itch scratched, though maybe not entirely.

That's wrong. The other games force everything on you. NPCs have the same 2 lines of dialogue, you are always the dragonborn from the start and you have no say in it, you can't easily pretend you're not. Even if you use mods, NPCs still react to you as the dragonborn. The game's lack of specialization or skills and removal of attributes, plus the removal of custom classes with custom bio/histories both makes the RP aspect extremely unsatisfying and also, with the help of the fact that creatures scale and attack you every 25 seconds on the road, cuts off from A LOT of roleplaying type of characters such as merchants, priests, etc.
Morrowind didn't force anything on you. You were free to do anything. NPCs, while usually having only a couple entries of unique dialogue, at very least had a lot of dialogue depending on who they were. Someone living in Ald-ruhn can tell you lots of things about Ald-ruhn, and if he's a member of the tribunal temple, he can tell you all about them and their beliefs. If you install LGNPC, pretty much every NPC has paragraphs of unique dialogue. There is no equivalent of this in Skyrim. You can ignore the whole nerevarine thing completely and the game doesn't force it on you. You also can't break immersion by doing things like becoming the arch mage of the Mages' Guild while being a heavy armor claymore wielding berserker.

Also, yea openMW seems to run fine but I don't know if the pathfinding issues are due to openMW or it was like that in vanilla morrowind.

I like that you actually had to explore to get Dwemer, Ebony, Daedric, and Glass equipment in Morrowind. I never managed to get even Ebony in Skyrim because of how long you had to okay until it started showing up in leveled lists.

I just want an overhaul to h2h now that I think about it.
Like fatigue is damaged only if you are fully unarmed.
Gauntlets now determine if you are fully unarmed.
Have something that's considered unarmored? You are also unarmed. Have an armored gauntlet on? Hitting right to their health.
Think it would be cool if gauntlets could be enchanted to cast on strike, and it would be randomly pick what hand to cast from if you had two gauntlets on that were enchanted.

Actually it's morrowind title.mp3, no underscore, and it is. I tried removing it and the game makes it to the main menu without music (after asking whether or not to continue in an error window and hitting yes to all) now but crashes on game load. It seems that trying to play a music file makes the game stop working.

Are you using Windows Defender? I had a problem where the game would momentarily freeze whenever the game started a music track. Adding the entire folder to exceptions stopped that for me. It didn't cause the game to fail to load, though.

In my experience, the only people who whine about the whole "canon/non canon" thing are Kirkbriders/Kirk kultists/Kirkies/Kirkfags/whatever you want to call them.
It's no secret around here that they get on my nerves. Seriously have you seen /r/teslore? If you would ask them, they'd have you believe that TES as we know it exists almost solely because of Kirkbride, to the point that TES Lore belongs exclusively to him.
What I find particularly teeth grating is just how two-sided they are about this. When it comes to us calling Kirkbride non-canon, they'll bring up a long tirade like this. Yet when it comes to Kirkbride's fanwankery (IE his towers theory), it is peddled around as if it is 100% established fact that you should never question ever because it has an (ex) developer behind it and that makes it authority.

As someone who deals with creationists, fascists, and and other internet loonies on an almost daily basis (also why I'm kinda a crab ass), it's not hard for me to read between the lines to differentiate what people say vs what they really mean.
