Hey /v/ I wanted soon to updgrade my GPU. I thought about the Gtx 1070 but I hear more and more about gimpled down GPU´s by nividia to make us buy new cards.

This is just terrible and now I am affraid of what to do. Now I am thinking of buying an AMD card.

Anyway now in all honesty is this true?

Secondly, I have a GTX 760 and which driver is the best for my card? I have the feeling, that my card has seriously lost power...
>>
>>339263906
>I have the feeling, that my card has seriously lost power...

Because the 700 series aka kepler was the first series to be gimped. Your card was on the 960's level until gameworks happened and crippled it

Just wait for amd vega/490

I also have a 760 nvidia is cancer
>>
>>339264062
Okay I think I really will go over to AMD eventually. Is the price to power ratio good at AMD cards?
I will have 400-450 euro for a new GPU soon...

Isn´t there a 760 driver which gives it back the perfomance it once had?
>>

>buying AMD

I've had 2 AMD cards and they've given me nothing but shit. Overheating, CTDs, BSODs, freezes, on both cards.

Don't buy AMD.

i was a pc gamer for 10+ years and spent all in all over $5000 on hardware.

getting a used 200 doallrs ps4 was the best decision of my life.

im having fun with games again.

I will always be afraid now, that my card get´s gimped down. Wth has nvidia done..

Don't worry, nvidia will manage to gimp your AMD too.
>>
>>339264434
I've had Nvidia and AMD cards and never had serious issues with either.

While I'm not saying that didn't happen, I don't think the failure rate for either from a reputable manufacture is that different.

Out of curiosity, what partner manufacture were your AMD/Nvidia cards? Overheating, which could be causing everything else you listed, seems more like a card (bad paste) issue.
>>
>>339265135
Oh here comes our AMD tech support rep.
>>
If you're on a budget go with Polaris. It will be $250 or less and give you similar performance to the 1070 in most games. If you really need to run your console ports in 4k/60fps wait for Vega and hbm2. Everything else is just jewing you out of your money.
>>
>>339265091
Fucking this. Their shady business practices are probably illegal, but until something is done about it there's pretty much no reason not to buy anything but an nvidia card unless you're poor.
>>
>>339264349
>Isn´t there a 760 driver which gives it back the perfomance it once had?

No because gameworks integrates it's garbage in nearly every game on the software level. Drivers won't do anything.

Nvidia said their 900 series fully supported dx12 when it did not as they were missing async compute

Nvidia said the 970 had 4 gb vram when it had 3.5

Hell even their 1000 series doesn't fully support async compute.

Amd's cards perform better over the years from the charts I've seen. I don't trust nvidia either so I will go vega.

Also note that nvidia forces tessellation in every game because that's the only thing their 900 series cards are good at. Us 700 users requested a tessellation slider like amd users gave their cards and they ignored us.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/837934/the-official-request-forum-for-tesselation-slider-in-nvcp/

This here is objective proof. The other guys will toss in pretending they own amd cards but they really don't. Like I said I have a 760 and can screencap it for you if you want.

As for the gameworks shit nvidias power is waning and some games are running worse now. In the end amd cards usually perform better.

>>339265091

With amd putting in anti gameworks measures in their new cards, nvidia isn't gonna have a good time. Some games are running worse initially on nvidia and if they aren't, all it takes is a patch or driver from amd to get it running on par or better.
>>

I don't remember what my 5850 was, but my 7950 is a Sapphire. Bought it day 1 and have had nothing but issues after a month or so had passed.
>>
>friend has to pay $15 extra a year just to power his AMD card over his old nvidia card

im not even kidding, power here might be a lil expensive but from what ive seen AMD cards pull twice as much power for the same preformance of nvidia's equivalent, after overclocking on the nvidia

280x and gtx 960 is a good example
>>
I'm going to be getting my first expensive PC soon, is Logical Increments still the most recommended guide to PC building?
>>
>>339265426
That sucks. The 7950 was even supposed to be somewhat stable, I remember when everyone bought them up for bitcoin mining.
If it's still worth it reapllying the thermal paste might be worth a shot, it does seem a bit more common on AMD cards. My old 5870's paste is shot after being toasty for about a year, a month seems like they probably just fucked up though.
>>
>>339265524
Its true that AMD generally consume more power now, but the 280x was a rebrand of a 2012 card that competed against the gtx 770, and its more powerful than the 960.
You can probably buy an used/refurbished 280X for a lot cheaper than the cost of a 960 and make up for the higher bill cost anyways

A more fitting comparison would be the 380/380X that don't have a consumption that high

Vega shmega, AMD is slowpoking as fuck, not even press release to let customers know if they can go toe to toe with nvidia new cards. How is any of this shit acceptable?
>>
>>339270960
The important thing is that low level api's like dx12 and vulkan means that theres no need for per game optimisation and day 1 drivers.

I wouldn't be surprised if is nvidia holding back the Doom Vulkan update so AMD's cards look bad.

>>
>>339270960
True but I think we could see that change with the upcoming "new" consoles and their games. They're all running on AMD and they will want to squeeze as much blood out of them turnips as they can and that will translate over to the PC very quickly.

Seriously, do you guys not do any research and just blindly believe what people say on the internet? There's been no evidence to that, only conjecture and speculation.
The only issues with Kepler have been mainly on Witcher 3 at launch with lower performance, which was fixed a long time ago in a driver update.
Why are you guys surprised that your old cards are struggling in new games? That's what happens

Wow AMD shilling hardcore ITT. AMD has been behind the curve since the 5000 series. The last card I bought was the 7850 which I had to put aftermarket cooling on because the HSF that came with it was insufficient and noisy. It was annoying to get 60fps in a game, only to have the frame rate drop to 40fps after the card heated up. Also, I had non-stop issues with microstutter on that card too. Nothing got resolved until I switched to an equivalent nVidia card.
