Browsing through the Steam store, I'm seeing this kind of unimaginative shit more and more often. Can video game designers actually design the content of their video games anymore or has that gotten too much of a burden for them? What the fuck? Can you imagine if 80's-90's classics had had procedurally-generated levels? They'd have fallen right into the pit of anonimity because procedurally-generated levels and choice-based scenarios are shit. They are nothing but tame, dull, raw shit.

I would like to play a video game that gives me a similar kind of challenge as games like the Zelda series, with both puzzle and action elements, but the mere thought of putting a mute character in a pre-determined environment where they must solve pre-designed puzzles while dealing with active enemies seems to give PTSD attacks to generation Y developers.

You got "Disney drone" from me using this disgust reaction picture?

OP you're a retard. Every asset and the code to procedural generation must be created by the developers, it might take more effort than a straight linear campaign.

You have no arguments, just strong and uneducated opinions. Get the fuck off /v/ until you're old enough to be here.

Crossy Road is THE best game out there that does this so eat shit

I don't want them to stop making those games, but it's ALL they make nowadays. There is a really thirsty market for people like me who enjoyed classic adventure games and want more and they're not providing for it because that requires good ideas and imagination.

>>339260903
It is more technically complex than making a linear campaign, but it's a lot less imaginative. Making procedurally-generated levels amounts to making levels with enemies, keys, locks and loot. There's no puzzle, almost no design choices, no story, the difficulty is random and it's completely chaotic.

The truth of the matter is that game designers don't want to take decisions for the players anymore. They fall for the "players want to do their own thing" bullshit which is literally a fun repellant, but a good trick to attract the casual masses who like gazing at their customized character's navel all days and completing levels without having to pay attention to the game while posting about it on social medias just so that can say they did it. A game that's carefully designed requires concentration and skill to finish. The shit they serve us today is, figuratively, interactive porn.

But by all means, keep begging the industry to keep serving you this microwaved shit. You seem to be getting along with them pretty fine already.

Wow, the example of a classic video game with procedurally generated levels is unknown to most people.

What a coincidence.

Oh wait, maybe it's because procedurally generated levels make shitty games with absolutely non memorable experiences.
>>
Lots of classic 90s PC games have procedurally created dungeons and RPG elements. WRPGs and roguelikes are traditionally PC genres so it isn't surprising that their elements are still common among newer PC games. Meanwhile Zelda style gameplay wasn't common at all, it's a console/Japanese thing.

I'm not saying that the newer PC games are good or not but it's obvious that OP just isn't used to more PC oriented genres.

Spelunky?

Again, none of which were memorable in any way.

And all of these made the best RPG of 2015.

You're saying that none of the 90s WRPGs or roguelikes were memorable?

>Casuals
>One of your units die and the enemy levels up, completely able to wipe out your party in 3 turns
>If you lose in a dungeon all of your equipment, items, and money are lost
>Units besides Princess can't be made into overpowered assholes
>You need to hunt specific monsters for items in a game with random generated dungeons

How about you pick up a copy and play ot first before shitposting, retard?
>>
>>339262148
Look, you guys are derailing my thread. The point was that no developer is making actual adventure games with designed levels, stories and characters anymore and it's what I want. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this unless everyone is either a casual or just begging for rehashed shit.

Your thread was pretty shit to begin with.

How the fuck did you pull that out of your ass, you stupid cunt?
>>
>>339262262
What the fuck is a microwaved roguelike? NetHack and ADOM were really memorable back then, even if they aren't perfect games. When it comes to games with RPG elements in them there's just too many to list, from Ultimas to the D&D games to SC2 to you name it.

I never hear about these games outside of imageboards full of NEET pedophiles.

>Procedurally generated dungeons
The worst one, procedural generation is awful and will NEVER be better than a hand-crafted world.

>Customizeable characters
>Choice-based dialogues
These things are good though.

>RPG elements
99% of the time these have nothing to do with RPGs and just mean stupid shit like U CAN LVL UP or U CAN GET L00TZ, so this is also shit.

>PC oriented games

Those were games made for PCs in the time when PCs couldn't do shit in terms of rendering video.

This era is over. Now games are getting released on practically any platform and somehow that means all games are "PC oriented". No one is making good adventure games anymore because the procedurally-generated customizeable meme always gets the pitch accepted. IT'S SO CUTTING EDGE AMIRITE?

Everyone is just trying to make THE video game where you can just do whatever the fuck you want and now this market is getting oversaturated with no end in sight.

Give game developers a clue that they've made enough of this shit already.

if you're looking for a zelda type game it sounds like you might enjoy the dark souls games, have you played them?
