I remember when i was younger, playing unreal and warcraft 3 with people was some of the funniest shit i've ever done, and a big part of that "atmosphere" came from the natural banter between players.

You might not always have the audacity to be completely honest. And if/when you do, there's a strong chance that you will be banned, if you go too far against the pre-established community view on something, or if you aren't PC enough.
Plebbit types often lack complete freedom of expression. So when they feel they need it, they come here to get it. However, this comes at a price of people not knowing how much of a special snowflake they really are, so then they go back to their home forum and online games when they need to get themselves upboated and have their egos stroked. But when the ban system doesn't always suit them, then they come right back here.
It's a vicious cycle. Plebbitors will always misuse anonymity because they cannot fully live by it. 4chan is only a means to an end, a way to hide and post their shlock and wait for a semi-interesting or original thing to pop up, for which they may then take it to reddit and circlejerk over it and get upboated for bringing it over. Because everyone knows that it's impossible for reddit itself to come up with original content.
These two sided people (read: weasels) are trying to have the best of both worlds, are actually trying to have THEIR cake and eat it too, are truly terrible, and are reason why we cannot have nice things nowadays.
