Because up till MoP it was rightfully the strongest single-target DPS class with decent AoE capabilities because the class literally provided almost no support other than their damage, but for WoD Blizzard decided to butcher the classes single-target DPS and absolutely demolish its AoE capabilities, making 2 of its 3 specs be at the bottom of all DPS charts while making the strongest spec the most boring to play since TBC

What is wrong with WW
Because originally they were all about dots, and people like to see big numbers flash and big chunks fall of the enemy health bar. The old ramp up time of dots also put people off, especially when soloing or killing adds in raids. Add in that dots use to not tag enemies until they ticked. A lot of that has changed but many are wedded to their main by now.
Probably also a lot of players like to see themselves as 'good' and locks have the evil vibe.

The truncation of spells made them incredibly boring.
Warlock, in my opinion, is an incredibly interesting and cool idea. Too bad they created a class that's far inferior to the what it could have been. Don't get me wrong, I still had fun with them in BC and WotLK but they've deteriorated over the years IMO. Perhaps the new demo lock changes in legion will be fun?

Nope. Back in the day you'd just put up corruption for nightfall and spam shadowbolt. The dots weren't even worth the GCD to cast inn raids until they gained haste and crit in Wrath.

After they increased the debuff limit, both curse of elements and curse of shadow were good in raids tho. Literally FREE damage.

they are second-rate mages whose main function is to support actual mages. soulshard farming and summoning bitchduty helps make sure that any other class raiding with them avoids leveling one. uninteresting pvp playstyle keeps them off that crowd. there's simply no reason to roll warlock in a world where frost mage exists, and fire mage is a straight up better destro warlock.
im playing one specifically because i know from experience how effortless it is to get raid spots for them, and because i want to summon infernals on goldshire.
