Occasionally you swap a dps for another tank/healer, but you know what you're going to have to pick before you even die. It's not play what you want, it's pick whatever counters the enemy right then.
Either that or it's full of tryhards. Go as a 6 man all DVA team the enemy team will try their best to counter pick DVA with a proper team comp. People can't have fun unless they win.
Even in Brawl mode. I had one match where my team went all dwarf and the other team went all tracer. Within the first couple minutes the team switched to a counter team comp while our team stayed as dwarf to see how well we could do.
