I understand lower screen resolution = longer battery life, but Nintendo better use AT LEAST 720p in their next handheld. Text doesn't even look sharp on the 3ds.

But even then look at how its a fully 3d world moving at a fast pace with a sharp model. The final game of what was sonic ds, sonic rush, was just flat 2D images for backgrounds/levels with a very low res 3D sonic model. Completely different result

Also i just fucking noticed! The shadows in sonic ds look amazing and arent just blobs. They are like serious next gen shadows and even lighting. Why was the final ds so weak?

Look at Resident Evil on the 3ds, it's graphics are significantly better than most titles. Less freedom in 3d=better the graphics can be. It also doesn't help that it is a tech demo, a game like Uncharted 4 looked much better when it was first revealed.

Even budget Android phones have 720p or higher screens these days. Nintendo could easily afford to put a 720p screen on their next handheld, the cost would probably be even less to them if they gave up the dual screen gimmick. Middle class parents often buy iPads or iPod touches to pacify their children, a 720p screen would not put a handheld out of their price range.

My ideal Nintendo handheld would have the same form factor as the n3ds, except with no bottom screen to make room for a bigger battery, either two circle pads or the right nub is improved somehow, a GPU and processor that are at least comparable to a mid range smartphone at the time of release, a standard USB type C charging port, and a1080p screen. That should be doable for $300 or less at launch, especially considering games come on cartridges and there's no need for a lot of internal storage. The Nexus 5x is $350 right now for comparison, and that has things a handheld gaming device doesn't need, like cell phone radios, a more expensive camera than what a console would need, 16gb of storage instead of like 1gb, etc etc.

Tegra powered android tabs are in $200-300 range. Still tad high, but who knows.

The same can be said about 3d and dual screens. Smartphones are already at an acceptable level for playing 720p games at the $300 price point, there's no reason Nintendo couldn't pull it off.

Theyre not going to do anything amazing. Shit id be surprised if the next handheld was at least as strong and versatile as the vita is. Mobile has cut deep into handheld sales and functions. 100 million gba, to 150 million ds, to 60 million 3ds. Its a shrinking market, you dont pour money into those. The next handheld probably wont sell more than 45 or 50 million

I think Gears of War 3, Battlefield 3, and Sonic Unleashed look fucking unreal on xbox 360. Like those are without a doubt the best looking games the system has and I'm surprised they look as good as they do. Its weird how all following sequels, Gears of War Judgement, Battlefield 4, and Sonic Generations look much worse.

My friend you are in for a wild ride, that is all nintendo does. The last time they just made a little box to play games without any retardation was the gamecube and even then the controller can be argued against, but its rare because it was a solid controller. The controls dont enable what type of games are made, the graphics and processors do. Hence why the vita got open world games like gravity rush, the long adventure 3D platformer tearaway, or impressive FPS killzone..its on nintendo to provide a fair and powerful system for everyone else to use.

ALSO, some of the collectibles were kind of hard to find so it doubled up as a collecthon. It was like a giant traveling adventure where you just go through different lands, jump through shit with puzzles, take pictures with the camera, talk with npcs and help them...its such a comfy game.

Not really, and especially not on the inevitable XL version. If Nintendo does use two screens on their next handheld, I think 1600x960 would be the optimal resolution for the top screen. That way it could run 3ds games without interpolation (when you take a lower resolution image on a higher resolution screen and it looks blurry because some of the pixels from the image have to be stretched to fit on multiple pixels on the screen).
