There are certain events during game that are only triggered when you hold certain items, specifically the 6 items worth 50 Monokuma coins at the vending machine. They occur as early as chapter 1, so I recommend buying one of each of the items and then replaying the first 3 chapters or so to get them. Might be helpful to use a guide since you might also have to talk to specific characters at specific times.
For example the toy camera scene with Hiyoko happens in chapter 3, and in order to trigger it you have to talk to her in the morning on a specific day and show her the toy camera

As an ESL, I find DR2's dub superior to DR1's and it's actually quite good. Personally, I picked English one because for some reason playing in English and hearing Japanese ended up not being the same as watching subbed anime, my brain just couldn't digest it.

First time I played I thought all the characters were amalgamated clones of the original cast. Nagito was a mix of Naegi and Kyoko since they were the 'heroes' of the original and everyone else would slowly hint at their origin. I figured Hajime would be the only non clone and thus, why he stuck out so much.

No, initially he just wanted to meet with Mahiru in order to confirm what the this incident was
Mahiru dodged him because she wanted to meet with Ibuki, Hiyoko and Mikan about the incident first (which didn't happen due to Sonia's beach party thing)
Mahiru dodging Fuyuhiko made him suspect Mahiru of actually being the one who killed his sister
Mahiru (and the others) being involved in the cover up wasn't seen as that big an issue in comparison to who actually did the killing. Between his sister (who he adored according to his FTEs) bullying people to such an extent and being from a yakuza background himself this wasn't really something he could claim much moral superiority over to be honest. Hence him being so conflicted during 2-2 the entire time, I think.

I liked how in chapter 1, Mahiru used her camera, Ibuki used her sense of hearing and Mikan did the autopsy. I wish we could have seen that in some other cases, Mahiru's talent especially could have been way more plot critical than it actually ended up being.
