Easily in my top 10 games last gen. Such a blast to play and watch in motion. Love the controls and response. For being such a derivative east-meets-west third person shooter mesh, it still had its own character and charm. All the tropes were just delivered very solid or subtly riffed on. That some of the humor and attitude fell a bit flatter than most Platinum crazy-fests also left it just campy enough.

Those TACTICAL CHALLENGES forced me skill climb so steeply that I went back to the main game and even God Hard wasn't that bad. Beating TC 6 was one of the most exhilarating moments in my gaming life.

yes buy it.

PS3 is actually the better version, after the embarresment that was Bayonetta Platnium Games made PS3 thier lead platform. It loads too fast to read the lore on the loading screens sometimes.

Apperently it's 30fps, but it honestly feels like 60, I don't know why.

That was a bad example. Doom would have been dead and buried without some form of multiplayer because the target audience only buys games with multiplayer.

> the ability to jump
> more navigating the enviroment (imagine Uncharted's jumping/climbing/swinging combine with Vanquish's boosting and slow-mo)
> more enemy types
> more bosses
> more weapons (Sci-fi Revolver pls)
> more varied environments
>>
>>339238092
You misunderstand. I wasn't dissing Vanquish at all. It's one of my favorite games and I'm perfectly okay with it being single-player only. In fact the only "multiplayer" game I actively play is Bloodborne. But the reason we haven't received a sequel is pretty clear: lack of sales. Furthermore, the reason for the lack of sales should be clear as well: lack of multiplayer. I just wish that a severely underrated but nonetheless finely-crafted game such as Vanquish received the recognition that it deserved and more people got to play it.

What would have to actually happen to get a sequel? Sega owns the rights? How does that actually work? Sega basically hires one company to make the game and another to publish it? What is the difference between developing and publishing? Developing seems self explanitory but what do publishers do?
>>
I really need to pick this up again, I played it back when it came out and loved it
>>
>>339244004
They publish :^)
>>
>>339244004
Developers = make games
Publishers = pay developer to make games, market for them, release them usually own license unless contract states otherwise

Back in 2008, sega and platinum signed a deal. Platinum would go on to create 4 new ips and sega would own the IP to all of them. Madworld, infinite space, vanquish, and bayonetta. This was eventually extended to one more game, anarchy reigns which did quite badly.

But it doesnt matter because thats the nature of platinum. They are an open studio for hire. They arent owned by anyone, you just pay them, they make a game, and the publisher/funder owns the IP now. Unless sega ever sells or relinquishes ownership of the brand, no one else can make a sequel. Bayonetta 2 was made because sega gracefully conceded and allowed nintendo to use the IP. Maybe something similar can happen again, where a third party can approach sega, ask for use of the vanquish ip, and make a sequel.

But this will probably NEVER EVER happen because the original director, shinji mikami, left platinum years ago and made his own company. Just setting up vanquish 2 to start development would be a giant pain in the ass if they go through the effort of getting the original staff back, going through sega etc
>>
>>339244331
Wow that sucks. What company did Mikami start? Is this because of how shit Star Fox Zero was?
>>
>>339244558
No this is way before star fox. He left around after vanquish came out and started tango games. They made the evil within released back in 2014, dont think theyve made anything else
>>
>>339244331
Could someone buy the rights? Another thing I've always wondered. Instead of buying the whole company why not just buy the rights to an IP? Imagine if Konami sold the rights to Castlevania? Or if Sega sold the rights to Vanquish? Or Capcom sold Street Fighter of Mega Man? It sounds like they pay developers and take a huge risk if the game comes out shitty... Why not just cash in on the past success and sell off the IP to someone more suited to using it. Like, Konami doesn't even make games anymore, right? Seems like to s of money just sitting there, they could be selling Contra, and all sorts of IPs for huge money.
>>
>>339244657
Yeah that game was kinda shitty. I bought it day one. Needless to say i was unhappy with my purchase. Was sold on the whole "bringing back true survivor horror" meme.
>>
>>339244860
It may not have been the next Resident Evil 4 that people were hoping for but it was in no way "shitty". Probably my personal favorite horror game of all time desu. The atmosphere, characters and music was amazing. No need to be so critical.
>>
>>339244779
Anyone can sell their ip if they wish, but its usually not done unless a company is going bankrupt and out of business where they sell everything off in an attempt to make some, any money. Strategic value brah. Konami is free to let someone else use their brands but they dont have any intention of making console games anymore so they feel no need to approach anyone. Its not always "money sitting there" either...if these games flourished in sales then there would no doubt be sequels. Sega wont revisit it because it wasnt a mega hit and to anyone else watching, it didnt seem to make a huge splash in the industry either. None of platinums games do

>>339244860
Well that is his roots. He was the director of the very first RE and had a very close invovlement with the series up until RE4, his last RE game. After RE4, hes only worked on god hand, vanquish, shadows of the damned, and the evil within. There was a 4 year gap between god hand and vanquish and vanquish and the evil within so his involvement with the industry has dropped signifnicantly
>>
>>339245089
Wasn't a disaster or anything. Just wasn't all that great to me. Looked like shit. Atmosphere was pretty tense and music was decent. Just wished i'd payed 40$ or less.
>>
>>339245661
Thats a problem with a lot of new games. It feels like almost next to nothing is worth $60 anymore unless its really addictive and has a strong hook. I paid 15 for csgo years ago and got 3000 hours out of it. Looking at it from that lens, its hard to pay 60 for an 8 hour AAA game with no replay value. The only thing I pay full price for is multiplayer nintendo games and sonic games, because I'm autistic and can easily pour dozens or hundreds of hours into each entry.
>>
>>339245804
Pretty much same here.
only games I plan on Day 1'ing are FFXV and Zelda U, dont care if its on NX cuz im not buying the fucking thing after the Wii u debacle.
i would Day 1 Vanquish 2 in a second. I don't really follow the publishers or companies or whatever. I just happened to pick that game up and fucking loved the shit out of it. Love fast paced action games.
>>
>>339246583
Its a dying art, high action fast paced 6-10 hour single player games. I would enjoy it to but most people never heard of the first one and any potential new buyers would go on reddit or ign or whatever the fuck and see that its a 7 hour single player game with no multiplayer. The actual market in the end is very small. Im getting ffxv and sonic 2016 day one too because I know ill spend hundreds of hours in each. And fuck anything nintendo after the wii u. Was such a kick in the ass

> Thats a problem with a lot of new games. It feels like almost next to nothing is worth $60 anymore unless its really addictive and has a strong hook.

I think it's more a problem with perception of what stuff is worth. It's funny how people complain how games have less content nowadays, don't make em like they used to etc...

But then those same people refuse to pay retail price for stuff that follows the same structure as older games. Crash Bandicoot games had 25 levels and could be beaten in about 5 hours by a component player, it was a full retail game (and something lots of people have nostalgia for and want a new one) but I garuntee a 2016 game with the same content would need to be $15 to seem like a good price to modern gamers.

Look at new Ratchet and Clank and Sly 4, they're both full sized games but they retailed at $40 because Sony knew no-one would buy them. Same with Rayman Origins/Legends, Origins had over Sixty (60) levels and Legends had even more, but almost everyone in the wider audience treated it as "great game, doesn't feel worth $60 though".

For some reason genre has become part of a games worth, people will pay nearly anything for "modern" stuff (look at Destiny and it's DLC) but anything reminisant of old should be budget title even if it has more content and no future DLC planned to cost them more money.
>>
>>339247508
Perhaps it's because modern games are a lot more expensive to make nowadays? Also the reason why there's an influx of DLC everywhere. Due to the fact that raising the price above 60$ isn't an option for developers.
>>
>>339247508
Back then it was all that was there. Most games were generally pretty short, they were just a lot harder or had more collectibles or side missions crammed in so they seemed to last longer because you wanted to 100% it or the game was just hard as fuck. The only long games were like jrpgs and shit. But later on games started getting longer, maybe through padding. Shooters and multiplayer became popular because consoles had good controllers that worked for it and good online connectivity and you can spend dozens of hours in an online fps. RPGs got longer, mmos were born.

Rayman games are good but i feel hard pressed paying $60 for them. The levels are just bite sized and theres really not a reason to come back to them unless youre doing time attack but its not really the game you play for that anyway. This is why I can justify short sonic games because they are all about racing the clock and trying to get new best times. Although I didnt play generations and lost world as much as I expected but still, as a long time fan I got what I expected.

I still need to get the new RC game but have just been replaying bloodborne and TW3, massive games I know I can keep replaying. I think people are just stingier more than ever now and very careful on what they spend money on. The middle class is dying, cost of living is getting higher, normalfags want to take on tons of debt on mortgages, car payments, treating their gfs etc...some genres are just simple and most dont have the time or money anymore to justify it. Its easier to buy a multiplayer shooter you know youll play for more than 20 hours and be done with it
