It's an ok game. Very standard even at the time it came out. I liked the hunting and fishing things, it's too bad we don't see more crap like that in RPGs these days.

Uhh...dude? Breath of Fire I is pretty lame as far as 16-bit JRPG's are concerned. I dig the characters and the 80's anime storyline, but otherwise it was lacking.
Breath of Fire II was FAR better even with the shitty translation fuck-ups. Playing the re-translation makes it one of the top 5 JRPG's on the SNES. Not in the top 5 period, though.

No, there are few exceptions though.
A Jrpg can't be the best game on the SNES. They are all story and cutscene driven over actual gameplay. The closest you get to a decent JRPG is Mana and Creation.
