So I just finished persona 3 for the first time and the themes of death and how temporary our lives are is seriously some of the best story telling I have ever seen from a JRPG. The way most social links tied in to death was pretty fantastic and I legit teared up when I talked to the mother of the boy who died at the end. My only fault with it is the good guy turning into a bad guy cliche.

If you want to play SMT, then go DDS, Nocturne, or even something like Soul Hackers. Devil Survivor for the most part is pretty great too. If you want Persona then start with 3 sinceI personally think it's the best in the series but it's somewhat a chore for most people that start off with 4. Persona was originally a spinoff of SMT but it seems to be coming into it's own series at this point. Either way they use a lot of similar themes, demons, plus attacks and magic spells. In SMT you use Demons while in Persona the demons are dubbed "Persona", yet they're nearly the same creatures. SMT allows for more freedom in some games like picking to go Good, Evil, or Neutral while Persona games are more straight forward storywise yet allow for some life-sim aspects which make the downtimes more memorable. Both are great series in their own rights
You should be able to get a hold of Persona 3 FES which fixes some issues from the vanilla Persona 3, essentially replacing the Vanilla disc. FES allows you to play the original story which is called "The Journey" and all and allows access to the extra ending called "The Answer".

I still don't understand the issue. Why exactly can't they offer the undub as DLC? I'd pay for it. There are plenty of games with narrator and navigator voice pack DLCs, so why can't Atlus sell the most autistic parts of its fanbase (myself counted amongst that group) a premium DLC with the JP voice licensing rights covered for, say, $25?

I'd attribute 95% of it to laziness, all the "we're proud of our English VAs" stuff is just PR fluff. They're not entirely wrong when they say it's not as easy as checking a dual audio box since they have to develop and test an entire system that grabs voice lines from two databases rather than just changing the voice files, which would be some effort but it's pretty shitty when tiny localization companies manage to do it with no problem while they just say fuck it since they know they don't have to do it.

The meaning behind this statement was that I, and most like myself, acknowledge that we are a minority. However, we still want what we want, and if we want to actually GET what we want we may have to pay an exorbitantly inflated cost to compensate for the product's (undub) niche market.
