Saw it yesterday. It was shit.
It rushes to show you 50 locations and a dozen of characters without ever developing any of them. It feels like two long movies stuck in a single 90 minute one. Actors are shit. The final plot twist with king asking Garona to kill him is the stupidest thing I have seen in a while. CG, outside of main orcs, is fucking garbage. It is even worse if you are not familiar with wow.
Fanservice bits are the only redeeming factor in that movie and they are still not worth wasting your time and money for.

I thought it was OK. The moments of comedy got substantial laughs out of the audience almost every time.
Maybe it was the 3D, but the CGI looked better than I was expecting, mostly in the Orcs and magic effects. There was plenty of tacky CGI too though, like the griffons and vistas always looked fake, especially when there were human actors superimposed.
Garona behaves like a typical fantasy hot feral woman and it's eye-rolling as fuck, but she has some decent moments.
There really was no establishing of human characters and it took me a while to just put names to them, the movie doesn't explain anything like what a Guardian or the Kirin Tor is, or who the dwarves/draenai/elves are.
It was enjoyable enough, theres just a lot that could have been done better.
I just wish blizzard would die in peace, I don't need another slow painful death of something I like in my life again.

Really? Last I checked IMDB, most fan based reviews were pretty favorable. Went into the movie 2 days ago, and it is too fast paced for its own good, though my friends and I were entertained, one of them being pretty big into WoW. Basically a cinematic universe prequel, like the Marvel movies. Warcraft, the game franchise, isn't high storytelling and with that in mind the movie was an entertaining romp, especially on the visuals. Not an 8, like IMDB is currently sporting, but definitely not as bad as RT makes it out to be. If there's a sequel going for the WC3 storyline, I'll be looking forward to it.

From looking at the IMDb comments as well as the Twitter feed, it seems pretty clear to me that this movie proved to be an audience success. Even the people who think it is a very flawed movie have been giving it a a 6 or a 7 because of how strong the good points of the movie are.
Tons of people are asking for a sequel and considering how well it has been doing in every country it has opened in so far, I think we are looking at a commercial success here, which is the most important thing the WarCraft movie needed to achieve.

PVP should never -ever- be associated with grinding, and while the honor grind was really really shitty, it was more of a ladder for status then actual progression, arenas turned PVP into a fucking chore and it only got worse with item bloat.
Legion is going to be a clusterfuck when they figure out that you need to grind for 2-3 months before you can play at a competitive level because your PVP trinket talent will be locked behind a 2 week grind, let alone your big PVP cooldowns at the end of your PVP prestige talent tree.

Eowyn was always one of my favorite characters in the books, but her character can also only exist because of the setting where women going to war never happens. Like if wars were fought with 50% women, there would nothing special about her anymore. I guess it never really bothered me that she wasn't an ultimate hero or chosen one. In WoW they retconned it to have her mind controlled by Gul'Dan, and in the movieLlane tells her to kill him so Blackhand won't have the honor and she will be safe among the Orcs, and all this happens within the Orc encampment and not Stormwind. Blizzard made an extremely successful, practically genre defining MMO that had a twin faction system. They could not longer focus on having one side be good and the other bad, they hat to cater to both.
As they did so metzen fell in love with the good orc concept, Kosack loved the Forsaken, they all found the horde far more interesting to work with because they were more original to blizzard than the tolkien races on the alliance side.
They can't go back now, the horde is their new favorite and they have two fan sub-groups that demand they be catered too.
If the film had ocured back when Sam Raimi was making it, it would have made the orcs evil.
