It's free, bro. They're pushing EVERYONE with 7-8 with autoupdate on onto 10 due to it being a 'recommended' update. So without those people even knowing they will go to 10. MS wants as many people on 10 as they can get and they don't care if they have to give it away free. That should set off alarm bells.
>>
>w-what are you complaining about, just go out of your way to fix this extremely annoying and inconvenient setting!
if you don't want to leave your system out of date and vulnerable, the fact that you still need to wait 5 minutes to configure after installing an update is fucking stupid. even linux doesn't need to do that and it's free.

Your OS is 0.0001% more "vulnerable" without updates as it is with updates. There are millions of security holes not fixed by updates. You're just making yourself feel better by updating but the real solution is to sandbox anything before you run it and don't go to spooky websites.

It's kind of scary how Microsoft seem to think they have the right to dictate what software a person has on their PC. Fair, enough, give a pop up asking if they want to upgrade, but frequent fucking pop ups and timers you have to cancel otherwise it installs it's self as well as it installing it's self even if you close is just scummy as fuck.

I'm surprised someone hasn't called Microsoft out on this bullshit yet because there is no way this shit can be legal.

The only people who should even care about staying on 7 (you already got fucked with 8, just update already) know how to stop it.

Tech people complain about it and avoid it because the one program an intern wrote in 1996 breaks, or a software vendor released a paid update.
>>
>>339087768
>Windows 10 is not "free"
It is free, despite Microsoft saying it's only for specific versions of windows. It isn't.

https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/software-download/windows10

I've installed this on 2 fresh harddrives of my parents, with no bootsector or OS on it and there was no problem.

I don't understand why people think Microsoft is being benevolent. There's a good reason why they're aggressively pushing for everyone to have Windows 10 and why it comes with a ridiculous amount of agreements you have to digitally sign and why it is free.

They even openly admit to it having included adsense that generates an advertisement profile, which is then sold to other companies who can identify your machine by that unique token. Not to mention the numerous security issues it brings, such as generating a backup BitLocker key that they can access at any time or including facial recognition and CP detection systems to automatically and actively prevent 'crimes' - they don't even just refer to fighting criminal activity, but they also plan to actively engage in disputes by third parties with the data collected in a civil court.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-privacy-statement

Especially this is important;
https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement/
(Unfold the windows part)

It's ridiculous how much data it gathers, including your credit card numbers if you type it into any website or file.
>>
>>339088874
>you already got fucked with 8, just update already
Let's see:
The problem with 10 is:

You lose control over updates
You send all your personal life to MS

With 8:

You control your updates
You can block the spyware update

HMMMM
>>
>>339088806

Software reminding people there is an update available is common (and can usually be disabled).

Software forcing an update even without the consent of the user is not common and shouldn't even be fucking legal.

Windows doesn't belong to you though. By the demonic copyright authority of DizneyLand, all copies of Microsoft Windows(TM) on YOUR PC belong to Microsoft and thus they can do whatever they want with it.
>>
>>339089258

My PC belongs to me though. And if I say I don't want to put software on it, that should be final.

And as far as I am aware, there is no clause in the EULA that states I am giving permission to Microsoft to install their software on my PC with or without my permission.
>>
Plebs need to be forced to update or else they are vulnerable to malware. If you don't want to be treated like an idiot use linux.

Once Windows 10 installs itself, you have to go through a couple screens where you agree to the EULA or else you can't use your computer anymore.

Hey guys going to Uni this fall and i'm getting a new computer while the old family one i've been using stays home. For years my family has been using a mac because they're not to technologically oriented and think it has less viruses.

Ubuntu if you want an easy, windows-like experience. Huge repositories for everything you could possibly need. It's the most popular distro with the largest community. Although it ships with proprietary, non-free software off the bat, but you probably don't care about that.

Go to /g/ if you are really interested in making the switch to linux. They'll be more helpful than anyone here.

The "close" button used to just close the window, now it closes the window and gives consent to install Windows 10.

Do you realize how many hashes Microsoft would have?

There's 200 million users running Windows 10.
Each probably has around 20,000 files (the average amount is probably around 100,000).

An MD5 hash is 128 bits which is 16 bytes.

Each hash would have some sort of description. Let's assume that's at most 512 characters.

If this is UTF-32 then each character is 6 bytes.

How would this information be useful? If they had any sort of data related to these files stored. Let's say that they collect 10 kilobytes of nonsense for each file.

((16 + (512 * 6) + 10,000) * 200,000,000 * 20,000 bytes) = 52.35200 petabytes

Do you still think Microsoft is playing around with people's file hashes for these weird delusions you have?

It makes RAT detection (aside the RAT that is Win 10) a fucking nightmare.

I had not had to format a computer in over 15 years because I am tech literate and I could diagnosticate my PC. When my PC started acting funky (turns out it was an issue related to hardware) I simply gave up because Win 10 had a shitton of services that I really did not know where the fuck could malware hide, so I opted for formatting.

In win 8.1 it was a 55 second wait from boot to desktop including Bitdefender booting, and then 20 seconds so I could start working normally without hold ups or hiccups in the performance.

Win 7 from boot to desktop was about 2,10 minutes until it finished loading everything, 3 tops when I decided to use custom desktop shit for the sake of coolness.

Win 10 takes 1,30 minutes to start, and bitdef does not boot correctly in win 10 pro for some reason it takes even longer, background services and important stuff boot correctly, but the U.I doe not boot up until 2 minutes later. Which is annoying because it adds to the start up time, so I can start working 1,40 minutes later, but if I want to play a videogame I have to wait 3 to 4 minutes, because bitdef minimizes the game when the U.I starts and that is annoying.

Especially since in the EU they were explicitly told the law was you had to give users a choice...

>then they went ahead and sold everything with internet explorer with no option to not have it.

The Germans took them to court and microshit explicitly got fined hundreds of $M's because of this exact

>Fuck you user you'll have what we tell you to have. And like it!

Attitude they have.

A drop in the bucket, and they weren't even required to stop the actual offending practice. EU courts are a protection racket and have been for years now.

1. If you use monitor capture, it can show the overlay before shutting down OBS. Happens if you restart windows without an SSD too because it takes longer to restart.
2. Capture card or whatever external shit PC streamers use. I know Lirik has like 2 computer towers, with one for managing and capturing the stream and another for actually playing the games or some crap.

Remember when Microsoft represented everything good about home computing? When people expected it to be good and reliable and all that jazz? Now the expectation is that it's going to be shit and buggy and spy on you. When my Win7 finally bites the dust, I'm gonna start doing more serious research into other OSs. It's been a good run, winblows.

Usage and crash reports since they need a really thorough way to test for bugs because we all know that 1) Microsoft is good as shit as that and 2) no one ever voluntarily sent in their crash reports.

Also, if you use Cortana, the information you ask her is sent to Microsoft for the actual interpretations.

You have all that RAM. Are you going to use it? You realize it is a waste if it just sits there doing nothing? It's the OS's job to worry about swapping around what's in the RAM and, since it looks like you have plenty of it, you have no reason to worry about RAM.

With ten Chrome tabs open on modern websites, they'd be busy feasting on my data and cycles so fursiously that I couldn't play something like TF2.

It's not the OS' job to protect my data, anyhow. It's mine, and I'd rather fiddle with AdBlock/Noscript for a minute on a new website than let them cross-reference me with Facebook and God knows what else
>>
>>339114687
Spin it up in a VM first so you get the feel of it. I wouldn't want you overwriting a host OS if it ends up you don't like the feel for it.
>>
>>339114347
Chrome uses a process for each tab, a process for each running browser plugin, and a process for the program itself.
>>

I didn't recognize that at first glance since that column is entirely fucked without a % sign.

I bet you that the foreground Chrome process is the one that is using up a lot of your cycles. Background processes take up less precedent in the OS.
