Hexen and especially Heretic have a very clean aesthetic, unlike Doom. Heretic is also not very bloody (or at all), most enemies can't even bleed anyway (golems, undead etc.). I dunno why'd you want to add MOAR BLOOD, Corvus screaming FUCKETH THOU to every monster he kills etc. with Doom you have Doom comic, with Heretic/Hexen...?
There was brutal Hexen though, IIRC. Google it, I guess. There's also Hexercise, which supposedly improves melee combat, and Ketchup Gore probably works with it too.

The only good reboots that have come out in the past five years are XCOM and Doom. These are two anomalies amongst a veritable sea of shitty reboots. It's basically a death sentence for a good series that would have been better off dead rather than have their legacy ruined.
Every time a company hints at a popular series being rebooted I have a small heart attack.

I wouldn't say it was good. It's decent, only play if you really, really like FPS.
Thematically it's very far from what a Syndicate game should be. They should have had more sense than to make yet another game about the rebels rising up to overcome their oppressors. It's not only a tired cliche, it's the antithesis of what Syndicate was.
A lot of potential thrown in the trash after the sequel happened.
