Zesteria looked good but it ended being a pile of trash, atleast the battle system looks better in this and doesn't have that stupid odd camera like in ToZ, hopefully dungeon design is actually good this time around instead of it being copy pasted same textures for the whole fucking place and i hope to god they actually put something worthwhile in treasure chests instead of a million fucking cakes. They did it so fine in the other games where you find a chest and you get a nice weapon or armor in ToZ you either get something that is weak because of the stupid crest shit or a fucking cake.

So, spoilers aside as I'm still at the start-ish of Xillia 2 but I always thought the Schism was more of a divider of dimensions. People had access to boats so could go around the world but there was just nothing of importance so they stuck to Rieze Maxia. But Xillia 2 came along and now Rieze Maxia was apparently a single continent-island in a vast ocean that was surround by a bubble of mana nobody could cross?
What about Elympios? It had airships and cruise liners. Did nobody notice either "Hey, this huge patch of sea has an invisible wall around it!" or "We can't reach this landmass because invisible wall"
You can see a crack cut into the land with glowy shit at the bottom on the marksburg bridge but that's as far as I got right now, just got access to the Chromatus transformation so pretty early.

The Schism was always a bubble around Rieze Maxia. Maxwell built it to keep the filthy Elympion's and their filthy spyrix away from his chosen people. Muzet's job was to make sure none of the Rieze Maxion's never found the barrier.
The Rieze Maxion's are for the most part unaware of the barrier. The Elympion's are well aware of it though hence them building the Lance of Kresnik in order to penetrate it. It wasnt really explained how the first exodus guys got past the barrier into Rieze Maxia in the first place

And yeah even at this point I'm still kindof wondering why the fuck anyone gives a shit about Elympios. I've done Alvin's chapter 1 quest and just got Chromatus and the only things I've seen is "Elympions are racist and violent cunts who can't be reasoned with".

If you've ever played WoW during Burning Crusade/later or used a sandbox server, it's kindof like each landmass being hosted on different servers while still technically being in the same gameworld.
If you're on Teldrassil and you swim towards the Draenei Islands, you will be on Bloodmyst Isle according to the map but you will not be on it exactly as it's the same location, different server. unless you're on the Outland server, the place occupied by Silvermoon and its surrounding lands is just ocean.
I think it's kindof like this. When the Schism was dispelled, the two "servers" joined and it left the rifts in Marksburg where the outline of the bubble was.

Gaius technically was right. The Elympion's plan for Rieze Maxia was to use it as a giant mana farm since they were running out of their own.
It all goes back to Maxwell being a dick in the first place though. The Elympion people dont have mana lobes so they cant produce mana meaning they cant interact with spirits. They developed Spyrix which lets them forcibly drain spirit power (whether or not they intended to kill spirits isnt really known) Maxwell came down and told them to stop using it to which the Elympions replied "well what the fuck are we supposed to do?" to which Maxwell answered "Not my problem" and he put up the barrier.
Not all the Elympion's are dicks though. They were trying to come up with renewable energy by creating their own great spirits (Volt and Celcius) they're gonna go more into that as you get farther into Xillia 2 and Jude's storyline.
