Archaon or however you spell it was overhyped garbage. He intercepted one of my dwarf armies underground as I was getting my other armies in position to fight him and he got trashed anyway. Probably time to purge the VC now that that's been dealt with. Regardless, the game is quite fun and adds a lot of interesting twists to the usual Total War gameplay. After Rome 2 and all its ridiculous bullshit I'm glad CA was able to turn it around for this game.

You need to expand to the empire. You can't take dwarf/greenskin territory. You kinda want to take on some easy pickings before the empire confederates everything.
Your hero units can be used to spread aids faster. If it's close to your borders you can just ignore it though, because you won't get damaged from not having enough corruption if you're sieging/in a city.

I really like it so far, but holy shit do lords need nerfed. AI is also really annoying with agents, like 3 of each type 5 turns in. Diplomacy is still silly too. At war with Counts, never even fought, they sue for peace and give me gold. Immediately after my allies offer me gold to go to war with VCs again. Next turn the cycle repeats.

Also AI isn't good enough to navigate siege battles. I remember in Attila using something like 8 units to hold off multiple doom stacks simply because I would block off a street with barricade + a strong infantry and just funnel them into a killzone.

It's my first Total War game so I'm still learning the ropes but it's super-fun. Couple of questions:
Do I need to get a 20/20 army as soon as possible? On my first Empire game I noticed Vamps were rolling around their areas with a 19/20 by around turn 50 or so.
When I want to take a province I guess I need to hunt down wandering lords and their armies first to prevent them from attacking me while I siege a city?
Can garrisons 'sally forth' so to speak or once I lay siege are they all stuck inside unless a Lord comes to help them?
Empire seem to have a some of basic units nearly the same. Is there really such a big difference between Swordsmen and Shielded Spearmen?

Yes, you'll also need multiple lords and heroes at some point, by turn 100 you should have 10,000 troops
If you can sell all the lords move into one city you can just siege and encircle them and they shouldn't be able to move as-long as you have enough troops. If you see lords wandering about make sure you engage them WELL AWAY from cities, you'll be surprised at the range of reinforcement. If you can try and lure them into your borders so they're cut off.
Yes, if you are laying siege to a city and the garrison has a higher force than your lord, they will sally out to attack you.
The difference is counters, swordsmen would be best for fighting missle troops and other infantry, spearmen are used for cavalry and large monsters counters, shielded is also a trait, it means your mean are mostly shielded from incoming arrow fire, but not catapults and such, and I suppose it grants extra defence in combat.

Yes, garrisons can sally forth. They generally will once supplies run out and they start taking attrition.
Check their unit stats. Swordsmen are more offensive units with higher attack and charge bonus, but a lower defense. Shielded spearmen are meant to be used as a more stationary defensive unit and does bonus damage against large units and cavalry.

I'm not very good at this game, particularly the battles.
I had a decent one against Thorgrim though, despite killing him, his Warriors and Hammerers still kicked my ass off the hill I was holding. Also, a rebel army showed up with silver-chevron Black Orks and that one unit killed pretty much my entire army by itself.
I'm enjoying it, but it's very unforgiving. I feel like the Greenskin campaign was made for someone who already understands the game - you need to know how to maintain economy, cities and armies in order to keep your aggression up and I'm not good enough at it to do it well. I think I've over-stretched and become vulnerable, without the economy to back it up or the stability to provide any respite.
I'm not saying that being unforgiving or demanding more of a player is a bad thing, by the way.

Really like it so far. About 40 turns into a Vamp campaign. Decided to go with Vamps because the raise dead recruitment option convinced me to buy it in the first place.

Really enjoying it so far although Chaos just started and its growth rate is ridiculous. Is there any way to counteract its effects? Cos it seems to be background growth and grows irrelevant of whether a Chaos agent is in the region. I feel like in another 15 turns or so I'm gonna have Chaos rebellions out the ass.

Trying to run down armies is probably the most annoying thing about the game. Especially when your agents only have about a 30% chance to slow an army down but the AI's odds are apparently about 80%.

VC are great fun to play. corruption can be a bit annoying/tricky early game though. but rolling over with undead hordes is so satisfying. it's hammer and anvil the faction.

so my chosen and warrriors end up running around trying to catch them unless i just stomp them cause stacks
like turn 122, only got a lvl 3 warshine and 4 base camp for archaon cause growth is slow as hell to get, ive exterminated everything got skaelings but while i was killing the rest they went and occupided a shitload of ruins while now ive got a 17 and 20 stack armies of gelt and karl franz on my ass

You know, I get the feeling 99% of all the people who disregards Sigvald because he looks flamboyant (and he is) does it for the wrong reasons.
Yes, he looks fucking beautiful for a chaos lord, but have you actually heard him in-game or read the small character building parts in the item questlines?
He's a fucking psychopath and his voice is booming with authority. He never stops fucking shouting, and his pre-battle speeches in the quests are great.
I had a right laugh in the story of his armour questline where he "stops admiring his own manicure to listen to this sorcerer and his story about an amazing piece of golden armour that is the perfection of beauty"

Agents once again ruin campaign for me. Holy shit is annoying that the AI can just spam those agents and have high success rate while I have trouble assassinating low level agents with a high level one.
