Most of the character designs really aren't my bag (that squid scientist is nightmare-inducing and I'm not a fan of how the main characters look) but this game honestly looks great. I didn't back but I'm excited.

Holy shit. I made a habit not to get overly hyped anymore, but fuck it - This looks amazing throughout. It's definitely looking like the spiritual successor to a game that I (among many others) waited for eversince 1999.
The dev's dedication also seems very genuine, something that I can't attest to many others nowadays.

I am actually of the opinion that Sunshine and 3D World are the best 3D Mario games. Sunshine is the best collectarhon, 3D World is the best for 3D obstacle courses, and I love everything both. Galaxy 1 and 2 were fantastic, and I love 64, they aren't quite up to snuff gameplay wise to the better games.

I'm sorry, what? There was almost nothing to collect but coins and star bits. Coins were only used to regen health and were useless otherwise, and they dropped from enemies, and star bits were everywhere, and could easy be collected using the pointer while playing the level without stopping.

Rare was hiring for Unity and Unreal. The unreal game is sea of thieves, so it would seem at least another game is close to being shown off. I think Ken Lobb also said at some point that they would return. Then there is the incredible amount of cockteasing for like 2 two with battletoads happening. Sony only put up a whimper last year at E3, so MS didn't have to reveal that much. Hopefully this is the year.

They raised like 3 million on kickstarter, invested a lot of their Rare payouts into it as well as having some private investors with very deep pockets.
So I suspect they're operating on a budget of anywhere between 5-10 million, albeit they'll be looking beyond Yooka Laylee.
You can realistically fund a team of 20~ for around 1.5 million a year, so they're easily funded for Yooka and well into whatever the next project they have cooking.
