Yasu/Leon. They're not trannies, they're hermaphrodites from what I remember, but it's been like half a decade since I played the game.
Yasu's story is that it has both genitals or something, it goes insane and tries to just go full woman, but she's barren due to her condition or some shit. So in every possible history, Yasu goes insane and shit. The "miracle" history where Natsuhi accepts the baby is the one where Leon is born, and Leon is the happy hermaphrodite or something. Or possibly a different version altogether that is only male, I'm not really sure.
Either way half of that is probably wrong because I can't remember jack shit about it since the game is so convoluted and old.

It's really not that bad. I've definitely played worse. The worst I could really say about it is that the payoff/explanations go on for too long. The suspense was built up the right amount and it varied it enough to be interesting. The last 4 chapters just take what seems like forever at some points and you get tired of getting jerked around. But the whole "say it in red" shit and general mystery is built up nicely.
I mostly lost my patience with the moe witch bullshit where I just had no interest in it, and the reveal is very "meta" which some people may hate.

Usually I hear that the anime version of Umineko/Higurashi are ass compared to the VN.
I can imagine why that would be so because I think the VN medium works better for these games. I'll just say this ahead of time: if you aren't a very patient person, these games aren't for you. They absolutely take their time setting up the mystery and they also take their time explaining the reveals. So unless you are willing to sink like 100 hours into these titles, I would just skip it. I personally think they're pretty good but when I first played it, it took me a while to get hooked on either of them. But once you play part 1 to completion, if you're not hooked by then, you can probably safely pass on it.

Higanbana was alright. Midori's story was the standout of them all, and happens fairly early. 13th step started out pretty good, but I couldn't take it too seriously after a certain point. Still good, just now what I really wanted. Personally I thought most of the stories began to get predictable near the end. I would probably have preferred it to be darker. It's probably worth a try, if only for Midori.

It's not that complicated.Basically, Kinzo does soldier stuff, fucks an italian woman(original beatrice, basically) and has a baby with her. Italian woman dies, Kinzo commits his grave sin by fucking his own daughter(2nd beatrice), and she births Yasu(who is a basically Shannon/Kanon), a boy. Kinzo gives the baby to Natsuhi to care for since she was having trouble conceiving and they needed an heir or whatever, and even though Natsuhi reluctantly agrees to raise the baby, she can't bring herself to love it and throws it off a cliff. It survives, and Yasu becomes a mentally broken transexual that is raised as a female maid for the house. He is the true Ushiromiya heir. Lion is another version of him in a universe where Natsuhi did not reject him and throw him off the cliff, but raised him to be the heir.
In most versions of the story, Yasu is the one who commits the murders and the servants help her get away with it. The actual version of history that happened is that the siblings solved the riddle together, but Rudolph and his wife butchered the people on the island to try and inherit the fortune themselves. They murder most of the people on the island. Eva adopts Ange after the incident but has trouble loving her since Rudolph, her father, murdered her son George on the island. But she wants to keep the truth from Ange so that it doesn't ruin her that her father turned to murder over greed. Battler survives the island and ensuing explosion but loses all of his memories and he's that faggy writer at the end. Not sure if I left anything out but that's a basic overview.

There is no way of ever knowing for certain what exactly happened that day. The anime has a weird issue. It tries to compress an 80 hour VN into 24 episode (~10 hours) anime. This leads to a lot of stuff getting cut, and the stuff that remains feels like a bigger chunk than what it actually is. The bunny girls are in the VN. But they are only involved in like a single fight sequence and then pop up a couple times later for an attack or two.
Out of 80 hours, you will see the bunny girls for maybe like an hour total, split across all their appearances. Outside of their special homing attack and their ability to scan powerlevels, they do not matter or factor in at all.
