Jesus fuck, why?
Cautiously optimistic. Will probably pirate it and wait for it to be on sale unless it's fantastic and I want to play with friends asap.

The changes sound interesting, but that artstyle is so fucking jarring.

>>338859950
I hope that Teddy gets thyroid surgery before the game releases
>>338859950
The water looks gorgeous.
>>338860703
V's leaders had props surrounding them and their backgrounds were a bit more detailed than murky concept art paintings.
it's like they don't know how to make the core city building/management part of the game interesting so they just polish the shit out of the game and up in dumb minigames like managing fucking art galleries or other dumb shit instead of improving their games
>>338859950
they should give me VI free because i bought that festering piece of shit Beyond Earth at launch.
>>338860994
maybe because one of them is still in developpement.
>>338861018
Am I wrong if that is my favorite part of the game?
>>338860814
Compared to everything prior to V, not really.
If anything V was the one that departed from the somewhat stylized look of the previous entries. VI is dialing it back.
Also helps that Civics and lots of other shit are being redone completely.
I'm cautiously interested in this new district system, but my one concern is that it would make my favorite mapmode, Archipelago, unplayable due to the lack of open space on those maps
>>338859950
>Teddy finally getting some vidya
I might actually buy it despite the shitty art direction.
>>338861134
>it's still in development!
What will you say when the game comes out and the backgrounds still look like this? V's reveals tended to show concept art if they were still in development, they only showed the leaderscreens when they were done. If that's anything to go on then this is probably what it will look like.
>>338861306
Archipelago will be removed.
We will have
>BIG map
>MEDIUM map
>SMALL map
>ONE BIG ISLAND map
>>338861160
kek, IV and V look more similar than IV and VI. Just because IV was more cartoony than V doesn't mean this is the natural evolution of IV's style. Only the leaders are more in line with IV's style.
>>338861428
what about you?
They said the UI was placeholder too.
>>338861619
Either way, since when have graphics been a selling point in a Civ game?
>>338861712
>what about you?
What about you? Even the placement of Teddy Roosevelt on the screen indicates it'll be more of a Beyond Earth type deal than V, it certainly doesn't bode well. Just throwing out your concerns until it's too late because "in development" is a cop out.
>>338861842
Just because it's not the selling point doesn't mean there's a carte blanche to make them look shit wtf?

also a lot of people are complaining because it looks like they've made it ugly so it would run on mobile devices, if they're try to make it a mobile game then there's good reason to suspect the game itself will be less complex

>>338862170
That doesn't mean they won't take cues from Beyond Earth. Teddy's leaderscreen definitely has hints of BE's relatively static leaders (though they did evolve) than it does V's usage of a particular set for each leader. Granted some of V's leader were just them standing in a room.
>>338862629
Personally I would rather have them spending their company's time and money improving the shit AI, not pumping out garbage props that nobody notices

So it sounds like the governments work something like this - each time you unlock a new civic, you get to freely change stuff around, but if you do it on other turns, it costs something (probably just gold?)

>After building up my army more, focusing on a settler to establish a new city, and starting research on foreign trade, I run into Egypt's Cleopatra. All the leaders speak in their correct native language, a nice touch as Cleopatra greets me in Coptic. She invites me to visit her city and I agree.
>Civilization VI introduces leader agendas, and Cleopatra's is "Queen of the Nile," which states that she likes powerful militaries and will try to ally with them. Firaxis pulled this detail from her actual life; she aligned herself with powerful men like Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony, seducing them so Egypt wouldn't get attacked. She also has another randomly assigned hidden agenda that I'll need to discover through trade routes or by sending a delegation.
>Cleopatra likes me because I've been building up my army to take out that barbarian camp, but if you don't have a powerful military, she won't give you the time of day. Later, when my army loses forces facing the barbarian camp and I explore too close to her border, our relationship declines. She especially gets mad once I meet and stay on friendly terms with Teddy Roosevelt, whom she dislikes. Rumors and gossip show up about leaders throughout the game; this new system gives you more information to react to and plan your decisions around.
If you carry a big enough stick then she will suck your dick

The gameplay changes are for the worse.
Barbarians never did invasion forces. Why make them smarter than they already were? In civ5 without the CBP barbarians never even attacked your cities, just walked around your territory pillaging everything. And they didn't even pillage roads. Just were a nuisance, really.
Buildings being tile improvements is pretty much worse as well. You get a sense of expansion, sure. But if that was the case, the map has to be expanded as well. I really shouldn't be building my wonders on the same border that I share with teddy over there who started 7 tiles away from me bajillion years ago.
After much complaining unit stacking is probably back. PROBABLY. Not that we know much about how it works, but in reality it will be about finding the best combo and rolling it.
Research bonuses are probably an improvement and your current state doing more impact on your research rather than "research X if you're military, research Y if you're pacifisht by turn [integer]". Then again, you wouldn't research sailing if you were in the middle of continent, unless, of course, the fucking tree didn't have it prior to fertilizer.
Same goes for "civics" or what ever they call culture policies now. Seems that instead of choosing them yourself, you get them by either depending on your current situation or what ever you're doing right now.
Global happiness being gone is actually an improvement. I suppose. No more stacking circus, coliseums and such to artificially improve your empire's happiness. Then again, not that happiness level gave you any bonuses in non CBP civ5, besides preventing you from losing production and/or growth.
What interested me was first impression dialogues. Then again, I actually hope that out of the box diplomacy will actually do anything besides "hurr i denounce u, other civs wont want to do anything with u durr, i denounce someone else no war pls" to an eventual embargo. Jokes on you, you didn't embargo city states.

>constant notification spam that's hard to keep up with
>seemingly always build defense buildings meaning they're a chore to deal with in wars
>rewards are absurdly overpowered, you can basically throw a bunch of money at them (or get lucky and finish quests) and double your culture or faith output
>because of the way 1upt works, spreading religion to them is infuriatingly time consuming because they keep all their units within their borders and it can be impossible to get near the city and spread religion
>they move their units every turn even when there's no need to and take up a lot of time in between turns as a result
>since other civs don't play by the same rules as you, they can constantly just throw money they don't have at city states to ally up with them
>they get annoyed when you walk through their territory even when you just use scouts/non military units
>interaction is extremely limited, they can't even trade resources
they're a symbol of what's going wrong with these games desu, instead of making the diplomacy with other civs more interesting or making the game more lively in general they add a completely unnecessary distraction that introduces more problems than it solves
>>338867346
are there still city states in 6? I only watched the first part of this vid
>>338866370
Your entire post reeks of "they actually changed something or made it different, that automatically makes it bad!"
Honestly, all of the changes sound like they are increasing the focus and importance of having a military. In Civ 5, you could get by with a minimalist military on most difficulties with the right playstyle. That does not seem to be the case this time.
Barbs increase need for military early game.
Wonders and certain buildings being made into tile improvements means that spamming and creating every building and wonder you possibly can is no longer viable. Instead of being good at everything, you have to decide on a strategy and be selective with what you are going to build in what cities- space is limited. You can't build everything now. This increases military by making invasions and taking enemy cities more important- to get the wonders and space for wonders you could not get yourself. It also gives you a lot of free turns to produce great people or units with instead of simply producing buildings non stop.
The best combo will change throughout the tech eras, and if they do it well, will change depending on the opponents forces.
Culture policies are no more. Culture is now its own tree, that works just like the tech tree, but with different bonuses and unlocks.

thats not a real leak. real leaks are at more of an angle, and are much blurrier
>Teddy Roosevelt, as depicted in Civ VI’s full-body animated diplomatic encounters, is a smiling bear of a man. He makes reference to the toys that go by his name in one line of dialogue, which is one of those weird reminders (as if the immortal presence of a single leader weren’t enough) that Civilization’s awareness of any particular historical moment is flexible in the extreme. The leaders, as ever, represent the entire span of their civilization’s existence, lending one aspect of their personality or historical rule as a fixed agenda – a second agenda is selected randomly from a pool of possibilities at the beginning of each new game.
>What that means, in practice, is that you’ll learn to expect certain kinds of behaviour from each leader, but that base personality type will be modified by the second, hidden agenda. In Roosevelt’s case, his fixed agenda causes him to behave aggressively toward any civ involved in a war on his own continent – that’s to say, he’ll look unkindly on violence close to home, while tending to turn a blind eye to military action overseas. I believe, though can’t be sure, that he is much more inclined to take issue with the aggressor in a home-continent war, and that was certainly the case in my playthrough, when Cleopatra entered the fray.

>The P-51 “Mustang,” an aircraft created by America during World War II, was designed as a long-range, high-altitude fighter to serve in dogfights, escort bombers and even enact bombing missions on its own. There's the core city tile with the capitol building, monument, granary and such.
Then there's district tiles which house part of what used to all be contained in a City proper - the Holy Site has the temple, cathedral, etc., the Campus has the library, university, public school, etc., then there's farms and mines and towns which are tile improvements, then there's the Film Studio which does whatever it does (probably Happiness/Tourism related), and I guess that's a Wonder in there, too?
"Cities" now sprawl across their whole territory.

The charges on workers is because they remove automation of workers and they now build things instantly.
Civ 2 style advisors when
It's a silly game with ancient Americans anyway, why can't we have all that fun back?
>>338881359
those seem like core mechanics though
they had a quote for the tech, but not the wonder so i dont see that changing
workers having charges seems like a game mechanic, so again why would that change
furthermore im not a fan of cultural things being in a reasearch style tree. One of the coolest things about the culture/policy method was that it distinguished your civ's values, i.e we picked honour because we're a war like civ, we picked aesthetics because we value culture etc.
it was good to make set decisions on what your civ was going to be about, and what it could miss out on, rather than just rushing something like you do with tech, knowing you can pick it up later
>>338881882
>they had a quote for the tech, but not the wonder so i dont see that changing

Honour was vital for early game war civs like atilla or assirya or even zulu. 50% more experience, a free great general, 15% more combat strength and free hapiness and culture for every city with a unit in? Yeah that shit is very important. Building barracks twice as quickly and 50% off upgrading units is nothing to sneeze at either. You're delusional.

Some interesting extra things in this one I hadn't noticed before:
-Wildcard civic slots can take any other type of civic card OR unique wildcard cards.
-Great people are now predetermined (though random) within a category- when you earn enough to buy one, you can either grab the one available or wait for someone else to take them first. Bonuses vary by Great Person.
-Religion is mostly the way it worked in Civ V, with some as yet unseen wrinkles.
-There are (currently) five steps to diplomatic visibility with other nations. You can go from seeing basic information to learning their hidden agenda, victory condition being pursued, deals with other players, etc. - you have to do a variety of diplomatic actions (including espionage) to get yourself in that tight with them.
-City-State Quests aren't on a limited timer- you have a list, and doing more of them gets you more points (envoys?). You need at least 3 points to be an ally, and at least 1 more point than whoever else has favor with them to retain the ally bonus.

The link underneath that's like 10 min of footage. It encompasses all the gameplay.
I have no idea what he said either. How does what he says matter?
Will civ 6 work on my toaster
>>338893317
>How does what he says matter?
Because otherwise, you won't know that Social Policies have been replaced by Civics
You won't know about the addition of the Government system
You won't know there's a new gossip system
You won't know leaders will have special agendas
You won't know strategic view is back
You won't know that districts and improvements increase your pop cap
Etc.
they go all Endless Legend, without being Endless Legend
>>338893749
It'll even work on your phone my good man.
>>338892269
>heh, yeah, I'm a pretty busy guy ;) i don't have time to waste on meaningless videos ;)
fuck off
I always felt that in we got too few leaders in Civ5 because they put so much fucking effort into those leader screens. If simplifying them makes it easier to add more leaders, then I gladly welcome it. I really don't want to go back to vanilla Civ5's state of having so few leaders that you end up meeting the same ones every game.
>Additionally, Beach says the limited uses created balance improvements. “Players playing on a high difficulty found that stealing workers from another civ or a city state was a great strategy, because they were around for the rest of the game. With charges, they’re not around long, so it’s not worth it.
Kek
>>338894992
fug i abused the shit out of that
>>338894992
Kinda glad they nerfed that without downright making it impossible to steal workers. It's one of those things you literally had to do if you wanted to play on Deity.
I sure as fuck hope there isn't another Byzantium in VI
fucking hate that UA, it feels so bland
>>338894931
I imagine the VA and animation is still a huge part of the cost/work, I'm skeptical they'll even capitalise on the reduced leaderscreen cost and add more leaders. They had better do so though, otherwise there's no excuse for the dialling them back in quality.
>>338895392
China's UA in Civ VI allows you to both rush wonders with builders AND allows you to manually build the Great Wall by making improvements near your borders
Sounds like UAs will be a bit more meaningful
>>338860368
V vanilla had paintings
expansions added animations and enviroment
>>338895909
It's not just China that can rush wonders with builders, but they get 4 charges per builder instead of 3
>>338872418
I remember Civ III having a pollution and global warming mechanic that was infuriating to deal with. Did IV have any of that?
>>338896575
So all workers get the Great Engineer's ability to rush something being built?
>>338872418
keep your fantasy shit in beyond earth, thanks
>>338896502
Really? Montezuma stood in front of a painting?
>>338896760
It's not as strong as a Great Engineer, no doubt, but yeah, more or less they're kind of like Caravans were in 2.
>>338896914
Actually sounds like a pretty good way to make it possible for wider empire to stand a chance at building wonders. Can just build workers in your other cities and send them to your capital to finish up that wonder. Or even kidnap workers from neighbors and literally build your wonders on slave labor.
I hope it makes wonder building a little more strategic with being able to prepare your labor in advance, instead of just waiting for 30 turns while praying the AI doesn't finish it first.
>>338896502
They were a bit more involved than that. V still had a stronger use of props and lighting, as well as much more detailed backgrounds (incl. animated elements like flowing water for Gandhi and Hiawatha). They are actually quite detailed. Certainly miles above what we see here for Teddy Roosevelt.
>>338872418
could work in an expansion/mod
>>338897284
I don't know shit but wild guess says the backgroundswill be added in full motion later
What was Firaxis thinking by initially showing off their game with shitty zoomed-in screenshots? The gameplay footage looks so much better. What the fuck is wrong with their marketing department?
>>338897504
Nah, these are probably the final product. They've even worked in some parallax. It's just a fact that stuff in V was very resource intensive, both in creating it and crashing on toasters, so they are cutting back (for tablet users of course).
WHY THE FUCK IS HE ALLOWED
>>338892813
>you'll never play Toyotomi Hideoshi in a base civ game
>>338897657
oh fuck you, this is 100% you:
>oh shit a civ 6 is announced, get hy- what the fuck are these screenshots fucking fireaxe die
>gameplay footage
>holy shit this looks great, what the fuck were they thinking making a screenshot reveal instead, fucking idiots
are you that same autist from the previous civ thread that got exposed?
QUICK /v/!
TELL ME WHAT TO THINK!
>>338898046
think for thyself
>>338897918
No? I'm not even saying the footage is "great", but it's a lot better than this piece of shit
Even quill18 admitted the initial screenshots looked like crap
>>338880258
It's better to rule through shame than through fear.
>>338859950
this actually looks pretty decent. the leader screen felt pretty empty though, compared to Civ 5
>>338864156
out of all those people there, i can only just see 2 women and 2 children.
why are all these men fleeing instead of fighting?
>>338898862
>fleeing
They are coming to fight.
>>338898201
So from this, I see it's japan, obviously
They have the Colossus
They have two Holy Sites - one's more built up than the other
Two cities - their capital and then I guess a desert city coming along (I'm calling it that because the borders go around it fairly well and it's got a Monument)
I guess that's also a Campus
Looks like Missionaries on the map, too
>>338859950
>Xi'an is the capital for China
That all but confirms that the true leader of China, the First Emperor Qin Sheng Shi Huang Shi Di Yi is going to be leader.
About fucking time they make the guy who was the guy who made China and named it after his nation the fucking leader.
>>338898991
It's not like it's the first time
>>338898553
Needs more Miasma
>>338889319
Macedonian.
>>338898991
Qin Shi Huang is already explicitly confirmed in some of the hands-on articles. He's returning from Civ IV.
>>338899149
Didnt he and Kublai had their models swapped at some point?
>>338899149
True but after Wu Zetian I wanted them to at least use a nation leader that was actually important and not just a women because she was a women.
>>338899215
Awesome but I hope they don't make him look like a cartoon character like in 4, dude did some fucked up shit in history so he should be scary looking at least.
>>338899453
>Awesome but I hope they don't make him look like a cartoon character like in 4, dude did some fucked up shit in history so he should be scary looking at least.
It's pretty clear he will look like a cartoon, probably even more so than IV.
>>338899557
God fucking damn it.
I just wanted a scary fucking leader for china and not fat portly guy with happy smile as their leader.
I mean come on he killed thousands of people with his ambition, took an entire city that would not accept him as the leader and buried them in the dirt, women and children all.
He created a slave army to build the great wall and when someone died he dropped their bodies under the wall incase of a spooky ghost army attacked the wall.
He fucked millions of virgins because he believed that taking a virgin extended your life and spent thousands of money trying to make something that would make him immortal.
>>338899832
Dude, civ 4 had Mao and Stalin. Possibly the biggest enders of human life and they both looked nice. I don't think Firaxis can do scary leaders at all
Besides civ 5 Monty. I love civ 5 Monty
>>338899445
Yeah, they didn't fix it until the expansion, I think (this is definitely Kublai Khan, by the beard if nothing else).
>>338900039
Qin Shi Huang Shi Di Yi is a life ender and high up on the kill list but no one can ever touch Genghis Kahn on the kill tally since he removed entire nations of people.
Montezuma was scary speaking his native tongue as was the Babylon leader and Attila since Attila would fucking scream at you the first time you saw him.
>>338880905
>wonder quotes were one of the coolest things in civ v
I always just exited out of wonder and tech quotes immediately.
>>338859950
>based Teddy is representing America
this makes me so happy for some reason. I've never played Civ, will this be a good spot to jump on?
>>338900263
Nebuchadnezzar just seems out of the loop. If you beat him, he doesn't really care. Dude went insane at some point apparently.
Wasn't it said before that you are able to zoom in very close?
I remember in Civ 5 I fucked with something in the files or whatever so it let me zoom in really close. Makes the game much more immersive
>>338900386
You pick iv up fairly cheap at this point, just make sure to get beyond the sword. iv is generally touted as the pinnacle of civ so far.
>>338900848
I want civ iv tech tree, wonders, leaders and diplomacy with civ 5 religion and hex tiles + one unit limit
Fuck happiness in civ 5
>>338900386
If Civ V and Civ: BE are anything to go by, I wouldn't be getting this game at launch.
>tfw TR was ripped as fuck as a young man
>>338901190
No one should get it until they fix the major problems with dlc.
>Cristopher Lee is dead
>He can't be the narrator
who the fuck is going to be the new onecharles dance mite b cool
>>338900848
Is there a mod that fixes the UI in Civ 4?
I tried it, but I quit because the UI wouldn't let me do what I wanted to do. I'd try to end my turn only to have the game prompt me to choose a tech to research, only to be completely unable to look around, check my cities, check my tiles, etc, to find out what I wanted to research. I don't want to play a game that locks me into making a decision without any ability to gather information to make that decision with.
>>338901385
they could just go with his actual handpicked voice double.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJMluhNxNms
>>338901208
tfw too asthmatic to do anything at an even younger age.
>>338901406
>of all things, he complains about the civ 4 UI
hello would you like me to autocycle to this unit on the other side of the map while you're trying to do war?
>>338868675
>Ragnar Lodbrok
REEEE STOP THIS SHIT
CHRISTIAN IV OR FUCK OFF
>>338901406
Use the f keys and screen panning. The decisions are dickishly needy enough that you can't put them off, but you can change them before they take effect. I do think the tiles work the same in v where you hover over them though.
>>338901487
>Corey Burton
Just get him to do his Brainiac voice. It'll remind me of SMAC.
>>338901782
Sorry pal, can't slag the Rag.
>>338859950
well they nailed his voice surprisingly. he had a uncharacteristically shrill voice according to the few recordings and descriptions of it. Which is why Robin Williams was actually a top notch choice in those museum movies.
>>338901385
Patrick Stewart
>>338874305
Lmao how could we possibly live that long?
>>338870310
all things that have happened before (well Ragnar was Viking not Danish)
The graphics look like clash of clans and the music sounds like a kid doodling round at random on a keyboard, holy shit
>>338901857
I'm trying it right now.
Can't pan the screen with mouse or arrow keys.
F key doesn't do anything, even if I try to pan the screen at the same time.
Tiles don't show any tooltips explaining what tech I need to work them, at least not while I'm being prompted for tech.
It seems I can pick something and then get what information I need and change it. God forbid there's a free tech bonus like from building the Great Library or something.
I'll give it another shot some time knowing this.
>>338859950
>Teddy Roosevelt as the American civ leader
I hope he has a special interaction with the Native American civ leaders because that fucker HATED them
>>338902904
are you f-locked?
>>338903160
oh, sorry. I meant f10 for example, which moves into city view. You'll want animal husbandry, by the way.
>>338868675
>Catherine again
I get she's waifu material when she isn't depicted past her expiration date, but I want Peter or Nikolas or even Ivan for a change!
>>338861306
Maybe it'll be one of those features you can turn on and off in the game options?
>>338868675
>No Ass-tralia
Why do you hate us Firaxis?
>>338903570
Why would they make the barbarians a playable character?
>>338903160
>>338903316
Yeah, I just realized you were talking about the function keys instead of just F when you mentioned being F-locked.
So: I can press a key such as F10 and get the window to pop up in normal gameplay. However, when the tech prompt shows up, the function keys all do nothing. I also can't click on one of those buttons in the top right to get the window to open, either.
I literally can't do anything but pick an option in that dialog box.

Yea?

>to do anything at an even younger age.
He went with his family on trips overseas and collected an impressive amount of birds that he personally taxidermied. His asthma issues were greatly alleviated by getting away from his New York City home.
>>338903867
what is that accent? Hungarian or something?
>>338903570
because australia has never been globally important. city-state status is appropriate.

>>338904487

>>338903785
Hell, I can't even hit Escape or Alt+F4 to close the game when that tech prompt is open.
>>338904487
yeah that's great but i'm talking about having sizable influence on world economy and culture. and for the record i don't approve of native civs either, they're just barbarians.

>>338896914

I'm pretty sure ther are several relevant figures to put some other people in there, you don't even need to change the civ characteristics.

>>338906543

But they might not be until DLC/expansions
>>338903785
yeah, in the case that you haven't already decided, the best you can do is look at the bigger picture, the tree itself. I'd choose something, go about your checking and redo it by clicking the text at the top in the progress bar.
>>338906543
I think part of the problem is voice actors. Some of the languages they use are obscure as shit and getting multiple native speakers who can actually act and have a suitable voice could be difficult.
>>338859950
>Global happiness apparently replaced with something more aligned to individual city-happiness
