It doesn't actually look that bad in motion.
>>338835615
i like that build up animation otherwise really the only thing i can knock it for is hexes (hurf)
oh well
>>338835735
It still looks like a mobile game though.
>>338835615
looks like a facebook game
>>338835615
>Teddy Roosevelt
Yeah boy.
Also I'm glad they kept the animated leaders. They kind of look like Kalypso-tier caricatures though, not that it's a bad thing.
I just wish the visuals overall were better.

TEDDY CONFIRMED
the new fog of war looks badass
The colors looks a bit darker there? Maybe they listened to the criticism?
>>338835615

I thought it looked like shit in the screenshots but actually that looks pretty cool. I love the way that the wonders seem to get built.

I don't mind the art style. Running this at 120 fps will look and play great.
The buildings look nice, but the units look retarded.
CIVICS ARE BACK
>>338835615
Graphics still look shit but everything else seems pretty good.
I don't like quill18. He is too energetic and happy. Link me some cynical grumpy analytical pseudo intellectual instead.
>>338836537
Some bits look nice. The units look bad but I really like the fog of war for instance and cities/buildings are fine to good.

Totalbiscuit?
>>338836229
>Running this at 120 fps will look and play great.
completely irrelevant if AI turns take minutes.
Looks so promising!! as a mod maker <3 and the whole game looks nifty
Is there a version out there without some faggot talking over it?
>>338835615
It looks exactly like a mobile game. Menus, UI and all.
Green grass and yellow grass? Is that supposed to be desertic or arid or something? The visuals are horrible. And i play this shit since the original, so don't come to me with that graphics are important bullshit, it's this damn artstyle which gives the looks of some budget title of some nobody studio.
>>338835615

Seems like they have streamlined the game but added on the stuff the streamlined
The grafix still rumb me the wrong way tho
in some weird sense it feels like homm
i kinda like it
You guys know what I really miss in Civ.
In Civ 2 they had these mini wonder clips they would play once you've completed them.
Actually learned a lot from the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHeyi3UbtX8
I also liked the advisors.
Felt super real (granted cheezy now) to me at the time.
Especially how advisors can give you the wrong advice at times, just like it was back them.
Was super immersive to me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlTIk80uBPg
Gameplay looks pretty good.
Graphics are OH MY GOD WHY THE FUCK bad.
Like even as stylised games go, this is dreadful. The terrain looks so dull and uninspired.
>>338837259
>feels like homm
No it fucking does not.
>>338835615
The unexplored areas having a map fabric look to them is cool.
>>338837270
These clips were also in Civ3 and Civ4, at least the complete games.
>>338837409
I like this as well
Just realised why it felt so weird.
The graphics style looks almost exactly the same as Warlocks MotA.
And thats not a compliment. Warlock's UI was trashy and felt out of place, so does Civ6 .
>>>338835735
this is literally one of only two things i care about in this newest installment. 1. faster AI. 2. better AI.
It won't be better, I know this. They can't make good AI. But at least make it fast.
>>338837435
Ah ok, Never had the complete versions of Civ3 and 4. Only the ripped ones via download.
Civ type games weren't sold in stores here at the time.
The graphics remind me of Age of Empires Online, which I kinda liked.
It has its charm.
The leader animations look really cool. Looking forward to discovering the new leaders.

>a warmonger who dislikes warmongers
So this guy is the new Alexander?
>>338838421
>like, that is SO 2006! lamerz
why is it that nobody at firaxis had the thought that, in a game where you lead a civilization through the millenniums of human history on a truly epic historical scale, making the game look like a p2w tablet game might not be a good idea?
>>338835615
>Get's b-roll.
>Doesn't cut out the black transition screens they add to make it easier for media to edit the footage.
>guy receives the privilege to talk about and show gameplay footage
>it only does praises
Yep, i'm certain this ain't biased at all. Remember people, every new release it's the best game in the series according to the marketing. Offcourse, that only last until the actual thing officially release.
I seem to be late to the party, but that looks absolutely fucking disgusting. What a cheap generic revolting art style.
Another good series down I guess.
>>338836229

>>338835615
I had an IGN upload of the gameplay in my suggested videos and they made it private while I was watching lol
I've just realised that the UI and font used in the UI reminds me of the Warlock UI, and that wasn't the best looking UI it looked cheap.
>>338838462
Alexander doesnt like warmongers?
I know Alex is a dick regardless and will find reasons to get mad at you, but so far, me being Hitler wasn't one of those reasons

I think that I read somewhere that the old-timey map effect for the fog of war remains irrespective of era.
>>338835615
>"Global happiness is no longer in Civilization VI."
Okay, I think I can live with these graphics, take my pre-order already
>>338839403
>why would you even watch this, if you don't already like the previous civ
Who says i don't? Liking previous games doesn't automatically makes me accept everything at face value. There was no critiscism in that video. I don't expect a review, but i certainly won't give credibility to someone who doesn't experience a single moment of "You know, this thing here feels a little off". Nothing is perfect in this world, this game won't be any different.
>>338835615
This looks like absolute trash. The worst thing about it is it looks so gay. I literally mean gay, with the brighty, disneyesq colours and playmobile looking terrain/cities. I mean look at the scout unit symbol. Its a happy chappy dog with a smile on his face. How the fuck are you meant to wage war looking like that.
>>338839403
he's obviously biased as fuck

They did edit the footage so it makes sense that they wouldn't show off all the game has to offer. Besides, it definitely looks like they altered those icons. Times New Roman also looks pretty shit on that UI. Also a little bland but hopefully that changes.

>After building up my army more, focusing on a settler to establish a new city, and starting research on foreign trade, I run into Egypt's Cleopatra. All the leaders speak in their correct native language, a nice touch as Cleopatra greets me in Coptic. She invites me to visit her city and I agree.
>Civilization VI introduces leader agendas, and Cleopatra's is "Queen of the Nile," which states that she likes powerful militaries and will try to ally with them. Firaxis pulled this detail from her actual life; she aligned herself with powerful men like Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony, seducing them so Egypt wouldn't get attacked. She also has another randomly assigned hidden agenda that I'll need to discover through trade routes or by sending a delegation.
>Cleopatra likes me because I've been building up my army to take out that barbarian camp, but if you don't have a powerful military, she won't give you the time of day. Later, when my army loses forces facing the barbarian camp and I explore too close to her border, our relationship declines. She especially gets mad once I meet and stay on friendly terms with Teddy Roosevelt, whom she dislikes. Rumors and gossip show up about leaders throughout the game; this new system gives you more information to react to and plan your decisions around.
>>338842332

>a Civ thread just turned into Valve debate
Just another day at the office.
It looks like shit, I really hate the aesthetic. It's not like Civ 5 was a demanding game in the first place, the only reason it gave systems trouble was because the ai inherently needed to burden one cpu core and couldn't be multithreaded. I doubt that's even something they can fix for civ 6.
>>338843619
>I doubt that's even something they can fix for civ 6.
yes they totally can, they were able to fix it with civ5 but instead fired most of the programmers

http://franchise.civilization.com/en/news/2016-05-theodore-roosevelt-leads-the-americans-in-civilization-vi/
>It should come as no surprise that America is represented in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. The Americans have been a fixture in the Civilization series since its inception 25 years ago, and in Civilization VI they are being led by the nation’s 26th president, Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt.
>Roosevelt took office following the assassination of President McKinley in 1901 and, at the age of 42, became the youngest United States President in history – a record he still holds today. Roosevelt championed his “Square Deal” domestic policy, comprised of three basic ideals: the conservation of natural resources, greater control over corporate plutocracy, and consumer protection.
>His efforts to regulate corporate “trust” monopolies earned him the nickname “trust buster.” He established the United States Forestry Service in 1905 and fought for the conservation of millions of acres of federal land, which are still protected to this day. Roosevelt also coined the iconic phrase "speak softly, and carry a big stick," describing his form of foreign policy of negotiating peacefully while simultaneously threatening with the "big stick." Roosevelt described this policy as “the exercise of intelligent forethought and of decisive action sufficiently far in advance of any likely crisis.”

>Unique unit: P-51 Mustang
>The P-51 “Mustang,” an aircraft created by America during World War II, was designed as a long-range, high-altitude fighter to serve in dogfights, escort bombers and even enact bombing missions on its own. The P-51 Mustang was able to outmaneuver the best German Luftwaffe fighters above 15,000 feet and even outlast the efficient Japanese fighters, and by 1943 the P-51 Mustang was in service on every American front.

This volunteer regiment included 1,060 ranchers, cowboys, college athletes, miners and other rugged outdoorsmen hailing from New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona.

His film studio was used to capture the amusing larks of vaudeville and theater actors, to display within penny arcades, fairground tents and unused theaters. By 1920, there were a dozen film studios in operation around Hollywood, California, each feeding what would become an American and global obsession with film

>As mentioned in our last Civ 6 preview, one of the things that will be revealed is a leader’s hidden motive: a randomized goal or preference that will influence an AI’s behavior in addition to their consistent “historical” motive based on their real-world personality. For instance, I first encountered America’s President Teddy Roosevelt, whose Big Stick motive makes him act aggressively toward anyone who bullies city-states on his continent. This system of knowing part of the picture but not all of it definitely made this leader seem unpredictable – I’m not sure why he declared war on me, for instance, because I didn't have that level of access. Naturally I’ll need to play a lot more before I can tell if that makes their actions seem more or less logical.
>Illustrating that systems are still in flux, Beach hinted that Firaxis is considering making the AI’s motivations even more mysterious by adding a second hidden trait that will come into play in the mid-game. “We had a big pivot point in Civ 5 when you got to ideology. We’re looking at this the same way,” said Beach, adding that while the AI behavior might change, it wouldn’t be a totally new personality.

It sounds like it will at least be easier to keep target civs happy as long as you don't conflict with their policies. Like if you don't make war, Teddy will be your bro, and if you have a huge military, Cleopatra will suck your nuts.
The hidden agendas will keep it from being completely predictable, though. Like if America gets Wonder Fever it won't matter as much if you're being a pacifist builder because you're sniping those Wonders Roosevelt wants.

I don't know why wonders need to take up a single tile. The new leaderscreens seem to be a regression from V's. Not just because they're caricatures, but also because they seem to have changed it to "leader in front of painting" versus the previous "leader in room" thing they did before. Reminds me a bit too much of Beyond Earth than V's style.
>>338851269
You can't play as the TRUMP of the early 1900's in Civ 5.
So they took districts from Endless Legend now?
Hey, I was playing Civ with some friends of mine, and it was pretty fucking fun.
But my friend eventually won on some random turn at like 1914 after I killed our other friend and it was only me and him. He won a cultural victory and I don't get it.
I think that the cultural victory in Brave New World is probably a lot better than the base game, but it seems like it's buried under a bunch of fucking hard to interpret menus and shit. I wish there was more of an on screen indicator of culture "taking you over" or whatever.
When you conquer someone's city, it's obvious. When a civ has "influence" over yours, it's buried in a menu. Someone explain?

It seems like they actually BUILT on the previous entry this time, rather than cutting out features for future expansions. My god, they're learning. We might finally get a Civ that's actually good at release. Personally I'm hyped.
The only potential downsides are 1UPT, the almost certainly broken AI, and maybe the graphics/UI.

>>338852057
pretty sure it's a placeholder.
>>338836229
>running the game at 120 fps on a turn-based strategy game.
I but you complained when the VN you play run at 20 fps too.
Looks better than expected to be honest.
Will probably take an expansion or two to perfect but as long as they don't screw it up like they have Beyond Earth it can be a solid game.
>>338851530
Sounds like you're a typical retard who shouldn't be playing Civ.
You should be checking every menu and infographic almost every turn, as well as all your cities.
>>338852242
Wishful thinking
>>338852151
It's not pure 1upt its a hybrid. For me the biggest letdown really is the land graphics, sea is fine rivers look like ass, ground looks terrible tress look terrible.
>>338851530
Just set it to domination only victory next time
>>338850159
Who cares modded wonders are literally never good.
>>338852382
maybe it IS the case though. The game still have months of developpement.
>4 charges on builders
Well pillaging just became strong as fuck in the game.
>Can't manually build roads, they are done by trading
So now I can't make roads to support my troops at war? Seems like a bad change.
>>338852404
Rivers really do look like utter ass. I hope the plain gray colour is a placeholder at least.
>>338852520
supposedly pillaging takes multiple turns as well
>>338846573
>Éamon de Valera
Sweet Jesus we better get our own civ this time. I'm sick of that literally who Celt girl.
>>338852503
It lines up with the rest of the aesthetic, not to mention it fits Teddy's positioning on screen/animation. It's a reflection of how they did the leaders in Beyond Earth only instead of a gameplay background they've inserted a painting. I doubt it will change.
>>338835615
>Barrack and City can now bombard.
neat
>>338841936
>Gaben is a libertarian, and anti-corporation, etc.
Anyone know when we will get more info on the other leaders?
>>338852717
The Celts don't really deserve a civ, let alone Ireland lmao. They would only ever add the Irish as a total curveball.

No shit
>>338852520
Yeah the road change sounds really bad.
>>338852893
>The Celts don't really deserve a civ
Agreed. They were never a unified country.
>They would only ever add the Irish as a total curveball
We're the only real replacements for the Celts if they can them. And we deserve it way more than some no-name native American tribe.
>>338852990
>TSL stuff
>people bemoan that there isn't enough South American civs
I guess we're getting less Europeans and more Africans/Americans then
kinda gives me Civ III feel, visually at least.
mechanically I'd be wary after BE a lot.
>>338835615
could this cunt have anymore of an annoying fucking voice holy SHIT SHUT THE FUCK UP
>>338853780
Not everyone can have a silky smooth voice like President Donald T. You''l just have to deal with it.
>>338853590
>We're the only real replacements for the Celts if they can them
No, the Gauls would be the natural replacement of 'the Celts'. I will give you that a Gaelic civ could work as well.
>wonders are just a video of it being build
its cool and all, but I still like the painting and quote in Civ 5
>>338853590
>What If... Civs shouldn't exist

>>338853759
BE was (allegedly) done by a completely different team than Civ6 which is being made by the guys who did the Civ5 expansions, and unlike BE it looks like this game won't be barebones as fuck at launch since it's going to have all the major features that were introduced in the Civ5 expansions i.e. religion, tourism etc. on top of all the new stuff they're introducing
>>338852990
>>338853610
>South American civs
Brazil
Inca Empire
and that's it pretty much. I guess they could add Argentina, or Uruguay?
>>338835615
Where is the art for the buildings?
One of the most boring things about Beyond Earth were the bland wonders and building art, made it look like a spreadsheet.
Put a bit more effort in the art, it's supposed ot be about the great wonders of the world.
>>338854489
>Uruguay
no u
>>338854414
that's great and all
but that doesn't change my buyers remorse for buying that pile of steaming shit
>>338854406
>not brutally slaughtering any and all Barbarian fucking shits that dare step into your civ
It's like you want to lose.
>hey folks ASDGSHGFHJSD here
>>338854725
You were warned.
Beside, the same year, Age of Wonders 3, Endless Legend, and Distant World: Universe were released.
>China can use builders to rush Wonders
>>338854537
Maybe the art was replaced with the tile-wasting wonder building itself. Makes it much harder to just ignore later in the game when the wonders get surrounded by all the other shit your cities have to build, or whatever pops up as the population increases.
>>338854489
They pretty much have to scrap the bottom of the barrel for south american civs, unless they go full retard and add "new spain" as a south american civ lead by Cortez
>>338854489
Brazil Empire is a nice addtion. I liked Pedro II in Civ V and their tourism focus is pretty fun with the art pieces system.
>>338852990
What a pointless interview. The only interesting questions he asked couldn't even be answered.
Biggest question: Will we see the return of the happy merchant?
>>338855149
That would piss so many people off it'd be hilarious.
>>338854946
I'm fine with Wonders taking tiles, but I don't like just going through balnd menus while doing stuff in Civ.
Civ V's icons and more "Artsy" wonders and effects when you completed something was always fun and you got the narrator reading a famous quote.
I dunno, just made the whole game more fun when you were rewarded with a bug fanfare when you completed a new wonder or a new age. BE was just so sterile with none of the grandiose aspect of Civivlization.
>>338854489
The Tupinamba or Gran Columbia also have a shot of making it in, possibly the Venezuelans under Bolivar.
>>338848015
They can do most of those changes with textures only
>>338854406
I wonder if they can actually potentially raze your cities if you're not careful. Would be slightly worrying, but I'd also be far more motivated to start building defenses early if barbarians become more than a minor nuisance who try to nab unprotected settlers.
>>338835615
fuck it actually looks good
>>338854489
It'll be Gran Colombia.

>>338855189
I found Brazil pretty frustrating to play
>all those wonders that need building and not a hammer to be found
>>338855782
After a while, though, all those popups with quotes and shit become annoying. You hear the same ones every time and see the same art every single time. I stopped letting the quotes even play out after hearing them all at least twice. I would much rather the quotes be an optional thing you can click on to hear, instead of being forced to hear it every time. Same with art popups.
Will they EVER fix naval AI? That shit has been horrible since Civ 1. Every single game has been "start on island = don't worry about ever getting invaded ever"
>>338845460
Hitler obviously
>>338856390
Well the tile and building changes to Civ VI make starting on a small island a pretty terrible idea.
>>338835615
Not bad, I hope it comes with denuvo I don't want to pay for stuff every poor shit can have for free
>>338856506
Yes, but will the AI ever be able to mount a proper invasion + naval support?
>>338856646
But will you ever be able to build fucking anything ever?
>>338856635
Denuvo stops mods and they have said they want really strong modding support.
>>338856334
Meh, I think this is more of a matter of taste. I have over 200 hours of Civ V and they never got downright annoying, and it's not like the skip button is hard to find. It's a fresh relief to get them lat-game, when you are pretty much just going through the motions until the next UN meeting.
>>338856706
>what is steam workshop
>>338856805
Still stops those steam workshop is just essentially a filesharing site.
>>338856761
Get upwards of 500 hours or more hearing the same quotes and seeing the same popups every game and tell me that it doesn't become annoying.

>>338856679
Uhhh, you miss my point. There are bigger issues here than can be fixed by DURRR YOU DON'T WANT TO START ON AN ISLAND ANYWAY.
What if you take over a whole continent, and the other AIs take over other continents?
What if you start on a big island?
What if you want to have control of the sea, and stop all AIs from landing ever?
All three are easy-mode unless they fix the naval AI.
>HEYA FOLKS
>>338857003
Looks like it ties into Tourism, so if you want a cultural victory you'll need to consider building resort cities that look good rather than purely their potential science/production output.
>>338857003
Tourism and special requirements to build specific wonders.
>>338835615

I know how you feel. I was really sceptical after seeing the first screenshots but after seeing the gameplay I'm pretty optimistic.
The art style really isn't so bad either, I would have preferred if they'd stuck with V's but it's growing on me.
>>338835615
Blech, Civ II-III's shoddy civics=tech system is back. I never liked that aspect of those games, but I suppose it's better than V's system where you never had enough points to be creative.
>>338835615
mobile port when?
>>338857945
>The art style really isn't so bad either, I would have preferred if they'd stuck with V's but it's growing on me.
It's actually exactly what I tought about Civ V when I first played it.
And now, it's doing the same thing again.
I think it's just because how much you play this game, the artstyle grow into you.

>>338859341
It's a big game
>>338835615
I'm taking back what I said earlier when it was announced
This might not be bad considering they're doing the Civ Rev system of merging up to 3 units into one army/legion/whatever they call it.
The biggest flaw it could potentially have is the AI. If the AI still manages to fuck up traveling long distances and putting its siege weaponry and archers in dumb places, this will be as bad as Civ5.
