Still can't fucking hit anyone. They see the wind up even if you're obscured. If you DO manage to hit someone, you do around 950 damage, which is never enough to kill a host.
I've tried buffing the staff and using power within, but it takes so long to buff, lasts so little and can be seen through obscuring ring, that it's practically impossible to use.
Also breaks chameleon for the windup and with Crystal Soulspear or Soul Stream, the windup is massive, even with sages ring +2.

It's shit until you get Great Chaos Orb or Chaos vestiges. After that it breaks the game. Also pvp wise, sacred flame, fire whip/surge, and firestorm/chaosstorm are pretty good. Carthus flame arc is a pretty decent buff too. Dark pyromancies are mostly shit, except for dark orb. Self buffs like power within are shit, and everything else is meh.

It works the exact same with the pyromancy flame. The reason it's good is because a lot of the spells do lots of damage and most of them come out fast enough to be worth a shit, unlike sorceries or miracles. Also most of them are large and AoE so you can free aim them somewhat reliably.

Carthus Flame Arc (fire weapon buff) is great on any build that has 10/10 faith/int because the damage scales with the flame and not your stats and does great damage.
Great Chaos Fire Orb and Chaos Bed Vestiges wreck whole groups in PvP and melts bosses in seconds if you invest heavily in int and faith.
If you want good pyromancy damage you need to devote all of your ring slots to it, though. (great swamp, witch's ring, flame clutch ring). The effects of the rings are multiplicative so the the result of wearing them all is greater than the sum of their parts (ie Great Swamp ring is +12% damage and Witch's Ring is +25% damage but if you wear both you get a total of +40% damage

Aldrich and the Twin Princes were about the same, 4 to 6 attempts each from memory, at around level 55 and 80 respectively.
