Awakening allows you to grind thanks to those reeking boxes, so if you ever are in a bind, you can use those to level your dudes up.
Also, pegasus knights are thin as paper when fighting against archers so steer clear of them if you have any of those units on your team.

Some of them have particular conditions for recruitment (having Chrom talk with them, or in someone like Donnel's case, get him a level up in his chapter.while also keeping him alive, etc).

I disagree.
In Awakening's case, almost all of my unit deaths were from trial and error type situations. For example, unexpected Reinforcements would spawn and then instantly rush me.
Other than that, I had one or two cases where I was careless, and several cases where the RNG fucked me over.
So, unless having an unexpected challenge thrown at you, a lapse in judgement, or a bout of bad luck and being forced to redo a level you spent an hour on sounds really fun, you should probably either play on casual or accept the death.

Nah, nice thing is that you can take the game at your own pace. Go straight from chapter to chapter, go grind and shit. There's no "right" way to play, despite what some of the more petty and childish parts of /v/ will tell you.
Maybe watch out that Frederick doesn't steal all the kills in early game. You'll want to make sure Chrom and Robin get some experience.
Tap X to check enemy ranges. Remember that planning for enemy phase is the most important part of player phase.
The tutorials are pretty in depth. There's really nothing hidden or obtuse.

If you don't like Awakening but think you could like another SRPG then I recommend earlier Fire Emblem games, namely Genealogy of the Holy War on SNES which got a pretty good translation.
I personally don't particularly like the massive size of Holy War stages so I'd also recommend the second and third GBA games, which are called "Fire Emblem" and "Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones" in Burgerland.
Awakening is good in its own right, that's the one I started with but emulating Path of Radiance and FE7 have shown me the light for this genre.

Shining Force, Sega's Fire Emblem that actually released outside of Japan
Advance Wars, most notable for its level editor and multiplayer. It's much easier than any other game mentioned in this post, though.

I just finished Revelation after completing Birthright and Conquest. Very satisfying series overall, and Conquest was far and away the best of the three. Chapter 10 was maybe my favorite FE map ever.

That's a common misconception. It's more like, "Awakening would not be the last title in the series unless it sold horribly". The bottom line they wanted was easily achievable.
Also the reason a lot of the previous entries didn't sell well is mostly because of very poor marketing. Awakening finally stepped it up in that regard and sold very well as a result.

You can grind units using Reeking Boxes, though most FE games don't allow grinding. It's more of knowing where to put units to do the most damage and get the most experience.
Always use the max amount of units if possible.

The weapon triangle isn't that influential later in the game.

Only use casual for maybe one playthrough. Most games don't have casual mode and you don't want to depend on it. And if you play Fates, (unless you like sucking nigger cocks) do NOT use Phoenix mode.

It looks like most of the games do hit the 250,000 the notable slump seems to be Ike's game which were below but 7/8 seem to hit that mark and so does Shadow Dragon and New Mystery. From what I've been looking at it seems like the "250,000 copies sold" was just the latest in a line of scare tactics that they development team gets told.

Birthright doesn't make your army as OP as it can in Awakening. Unless you spam Ryoma, but that's only if you're just awful at video games.
The characters are much more vibrant, the settings and maps are better, but still pretty plain. Story is the best of the three, despite it being crap. But nobody plays FE for the story.
Conquest is like classic FE. Hard, no time to grind, and the best gameplay the series has seen since FE7. I'd even put it up there with Genealogy.
I would really consider stopping Awakening and picking up Birthright. Only reason I haven't sold my copy of Awakening is because I want to at least finish it. But I get bored when all my units can OHKO everybody.

It's just birthright on steroids with awful maps. Enemies still don't have skills, maps are either mazes or jumping platform to platform that just wastes a lot of time and allows you to fight the enemy completely on your terms making engagements too easy. You solo with corrin for the fist 3 maps and then you get shitty units way too far behind your level forcing you to grind as the next map throws pre-promoted enemy units at you. It's honestly a mess.

Awakening was a pretty good game to start off on, although the older ones are alot better(7 and 9 in particular)
After Awakening I suggest getting Sacred Stones on GBA and then FE7 also on GBA
From there Fates is really big but Revelations is garbage
Play whichevr one you want but save FE5 and 10 for later because they are really hard

He's pretty good. High base hp, mag, and res growths, and his other growths are alright except strength and sorta skl. If you're in Conquest, he only has two magic mothers available (Nyx and Felicia), but they both work out rather well for him. Nyx emphasizes his strengths (higher mag, better speed), while Felicia rounds out his weaknesses (more skl, better luck). I've used him and he works out very well, as long as he's using magic.

Don't listen to the people telling you to stop playing. Awakening is a pretty decent game, it just isn't as good as the other ones and focuses too much on supports.
I started with Awakening as well and moved on to the other games. FE4 and FE6 are my favorites and for some reason I found FE8 to be the weakest one although most people here love it.
Just keep playing it if you like it. I recommend moving to the GBA ones or Fates later since I think these are the most "casual" friendly of the bunch. Definitely leave FE5 for later.
The FE1 remake on the DS is really ugly but is more balanced than the other two versions.

Revelations is easier by a significant margin not just because you have the option to play side maps for exp, but also because enemies aren't given the cruel skillsets that Conquest does and the map designs try for more gimmicks but have some terrible oversights that can completely trivialize them if you use flying units.
