Even today, I still see people here lament over what that game could have been.
I was so hyped for Brink.
Somebody post the video. You know which one.
Spore made me never trust hype games until they are out and I can actually play them. I can't think of a game that crashed and burned harder.
In a weird way, I can thank Spore, because it prevented me from ever falling for these Kickstarter scams like MN9.

I can't remember the last game this happened to me with. I played the MP beta and hated it but every source I trust said the single player was worth it.
I didn't grow up with doom so maybe I don't understand why everyone loves it so much.
I grew up playing FPS games like Time splitters, medal of honor (which is now a dead franchise) and COD1 and 2.
My favorite FPS is BF4 currently. I love L4D2 and counter strike( I am shit at that though).

The character models look cool and the world sort of made sense.
The fatal flaw was the map layout and objectives were so awful chokepoint hallways and impossible computer terminals, and no way to get any teammates to help you.

I'm quite literally haunted by my ex-best friend. We didn't have a future romantically, partially because I was I no-good slob and because, well, it just wouldn't have worked, end even after over a half a year of not having any contact I still have imaginary conversations with her every single day and dream about her on a regular basis.
Anyway, thanks to that I realize that I had to change and improve myself. I've become a better person. I don't regret anything that happened with her, now I'm just waiting for my head to move on.

Bioware scored so many god damn points with me after Origins. Was it perfect? Hell no, but I still enjoyed it a whole lot. So when I noticed that its sequal was coming out, I think twice about buying it. I recall buying either on day one or the day after, full price.
This was back when I didnt really pay attention to trailers, screenshots or dev diaries. I watched a few, sure, but I didnt do anything close to the kind of research that is damn near mandatory for any big game these days. I just went to a store, looked at what was there and bought something. For the longest time, I managed to avoid buying a completely horrible gane.

If being chased, you just hit lights and then generally win. Everything is marked on the map, including murder scenes, removing any sense of exploration and turning the map into a checklist.
GTA isn't as good as the sum of it's parts, so I didn't expect Watch_Dogs to be either. However those parts need to be backed by some drive (no pun intended) to explore or find new silly things to do. When you know where everything you'll ever find is right off the bat, you don't feel inclined to cruise around and check out the world.
I really really want to know who thought marking the spooky satanic murder scenes on the map was at all a good idea. How spooky would those have been if you needed to follow the clues in the tapes? It would have been a compelling thing to search for, but instead they are all on the map from the get go, which turns finding them into just being a chore.

3 and 1 are probably the worst in the series(never played the Gat spinoff). 1 was pretty much "hey, no next gen GTA? No problem, here ya go" plus it didn't have much to do. When 2 came along GTA4 was a thing so they had to make an enjoyable game because they couldn't bank on "no new GTA", it worked though, 2 was great, technical issues aside. Then 3 comes along and they wanna get crazy, which would be fine if you could do crazy shit outside of mission setpieces and cutscenes, but you couldn't. It also lacked much content and Steeleport was a shitty place. 3 felt more like a tech demo than a game.
Then 4 came and did what 3 should've done, which was give you crazy gameplay and more content. Unfortunately not all this content was good and it was still in Steeleport(although to be fair they did make some big changes to it) and that really brought the game down, but it was still enjoyable.
I mean, it's fine to like 3, but don't pretend it was better than 2 or 4.

The whole idea was very intriguing. The original teaser, in both English and Japanese, said Shin Megami Tensei and showed various mainline SMT characters across the series. Fire Emblem showed various characters from FE6 (Roy) onward (and technically FE1 and FE3, since they were remade as FE11/FE12), since that's what English audiences would be familiar with. People joked that it could end up being "Persona X Awakening".
All we had to go on other than the teaser was that it would be in modern Tokyo like SMT (presumably post-apocalyptic or around there like SMT tends to be). For over two years, there was next to nothing said about the crossover, and many believed it to be dead, but the whole concept was interesting. When the trailer for #FE first showed, almost no one realized it was the crossover until they said so after the trailer. It was now about idols and the entertainment industry with cardboard cutout anime characters and social links and weebshit everywhere. It was like the worst possible outcome. There weren't even any SMT characters, and the Fire Emblem characters were "reimagined", and only taken from the first Fire Emblem (which existed within FE1/FE3/FE11/FE12) and Awakening. The two most accessible games. It felt like a huge copout and middle finger to both veteran fanbases, and a massive waste of potential. People who only ever played Persona and Awakening didn't get what was wrong.
For the weebs who like #FE, the localization changes are a big deal. For people who were already disappointed with what we're getting, it's like a fart in a gas chamber.
