Obsidian actually said that making round-by-round reloading depended on how many rounds are still left in gamebryo was one of the hardest part of the development.
They also wanted to make it so ballistic fist consumes shotgun shells on each succesful strike, but couldn't get it to work.

The problem is that FO4's water cooled weapon isn't a crew served machinegun but an infantry assault rifle.
This is coming from a company that made a CETME and AK47 clone in their previous game, and even had that AK47 clone burried in FO4's game files.

The funny thing is that FO4 actually has different raider factions with their own leader who have fights with the other leaders and are even aware when one of those leaders die.

Games way more detailed with better game mechanics get trashed, and they just manage to go trough every criticism with their shitty skyrim and FO4.

It's not really retarded. It's a way to save resources by still using the same brass instead of making a new one.
It's just incredibly lazy if not downright disrespectful given that they knew it's going to be visible in VATS.
See, they did simliar thing in F3 DLC where a metro during a custceen was actually a helmet.
But in that case it's fine and actually clever because the player is not supposed to see it and can't see it without cheating.

Gamebryo is a shit engine with shit limitations.
You want a close combat weapon that can use limited ammo to inflict more damage? (the ripper) Too bad. Either it always uses ammo, or it never uses ammo. If you look, you'll see that all the powerfists, rippers, ballistic fists, and so on actually have small energy cells, microfusion cells, or magazines, but they couldn't bypass gamebryo's binary shit rules.
I don't know how obsidian managed to implement their lever guns. Are there any videos of them talking about it?
>>338546905
most games have 2 reload animation
this is just lazyness
>>338546905
Because the issue is magnified when coming dropping features previous games had and what other games are too lazy to do doesn't make any player feel better about the decision.
Man, if reloads weren't cancelable or shell by shell, I'd never use a pump or level action. It's a huge issue of viability for single and multiplayer.
>>338546905
The problems here are:
Mirrored guns, as you said
The fact that he loads all five rounds even though he only shot one, meaning there are still 4 more in the magazine. This goes beyond being just a cometic detail, as that reload takes 5 times longer than it should.
PC works the lever at the end of reload, even though he always does that after each shot, meaning that the gun would actually eject a live round rather than brass.
The second thing is the main issue.
>Pretty much every FPS has 1 reload animation regardless of how many bullets you shoot.
No. Most FPSes take into account how many rounds are left in the magazine (NV did), not to mention things like if there is a round in the chamber or not.
>>338543559

Yes, Bethesda has been using the same engine since fucking Morrowind. And they've been building their new games on top of their old ones. Of course there'll be old code in there somewhere.
But each new game they make still requires writing new code, recording new audio, making new models and textures. FO3 is one such case.
New Vegas was built on top of FO3, so it uses a lot of FO3's assets and code. Hence why it was put together so quickly.
>>338535806

The world is bigger, it has more stuff in it, and there's far more shit going on under the hood than in bethesda's games. They made their own script engine, they implemented 'literally impossible!' lever reloads, and incorporated all these other things that Todd said was impossible, like thrown melee weapons, seecondary attacks for unarmed and melee weapons, put in ironsights, secondary ammo types, crafting... Saying it's a conversation is a bit of an insult.
It wasn't true 6 years ago, and isn't today.
To illustrate, here is a picture. Also, there's more 12 gauge shotgun ammo types than there are ammo types TOTAL in fallout 3.

They'll want it in there when they copy/paste to make the next Elder Scrolls.
In all seriousness, I'm no professional coder but I'd imagine when you have so much code, it's a lot safer to disable chunks of it instead of outright deleting it in case something unforeseen breaks. They could eventually go back and clean things up, but at this point the entire code base has to be such a fucking mess they're afraid of touching anything.
>>338546905
>What's the problem here? Pretty much every FPS has 1 reload animation regardless of how many bullets you shoot.
You are out of your mind.
I can't think of a single game in which the incorrect amount of ammunition is loaded one round at a time. Not every shooter I've played actually has one-round-at-a-time reloading animations, but of those that do, literally EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM does it correctly. This video is a first, for me.

I look at things like this and weep at the thought that people still defend Bethesda as if they're game making Gods.
>>338551634
That might be an acceptable reason if Oblivion was the previous project or something.
Oblivion was developed 11-13 YEARS ago. Over a decade. That's enough time to say hey, it's time to rebuild this pile of shit.
Tood Howard is just a huge piece of shit and Fallout 4 is a legitimately bad video game. I'm sure it sold tremendously to all the 12 year olds though.
>>338544518
LOL
It's been ruined from WAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than this.
Why don't you fuck off,Todd, you faggot manlet fuck.

>Compare the LAER to the bethesda made laser rifle
Bethesda's Laser Rifle design is much, much better.
LAER looks like a toy.
>>338552039
with the amount of lore destruction bethesda did to the series, it might as well be
*cough*
Hey /v/. Does my recovery wonders seeing you guys talk about my game. I hope you're having *cough* fun.

>>338551846
Bethesda gets a pass because to the average normie, Bethesda and Bioware are the only two RPG devs in existence. Obsidian, CDPR, Larian, inXile, they all might as well not exist.
>>338552196
Oh, you poor poor man.
Is there any way I could help you?

I'm just sorry the doctor was unable to get spears working to combat your illness, Todd. The hospital just wasn't designed for spears

Bethesda's laser rifle is a hideous hunk of metal with a horribly anti-ergonomic stock and grip. At least the LAER has the makings of a (playfully stylized) weapon.
>>338552589
>playfully stylized
Toy.

>implying it's the only thing wrong with the guns in F4, yet alone with the whole game

>>338552079
have you seen the original fallout energy weapons? That could fit in to any 1950's scifi movie.
>>338551542
That image is hilariously disingenous.

No, I didn't imply that at all actually.

Goddamn I love the original laser pistol design.
It looks like it'd be really comfortable to hold.
>>338552079
Looks like a piece of shit. The LAER fits the future-tech world perfectly, while this is some unergonomic monster.
It does look a bit better when you put all the Obsidian made weapon mods on it in NV.

To this day I can't figure out how the dog got it through.
Look at the length of the branch to the right, and when he turns it to get it across the bridge.
It literally fazes through the green column.
You can even see the length of it the frame before and the couple frames after the dog does it that it's indeed too far out to be able to just go past the green column, it fazes through it.
Testing.
Testing.
Whacky.
Testing.
>>338553059
Shit, just remove the weird tube that connects the front to the trigger and make the whole trigger area less retarded and it'd look fine.
Maybe put some padding on the stock, or widen it at the very least.
>>338552347
Wow. That was rude :(
I guess you're having a bad day. Hope you feel better.
>>338552387
Well...maybe...maybe buying my game wouldn't hurt. *cough*
>>338552514

Advanced Dogonometry.
>>338553031
Obsidian brought many of them back for NV, and upgraded them further with extra weapon mods in GRA.
Here, look at this fallout 1 styled plasma pistol. Meanwhile, Bethesda's plasma pistol is like the deus ex nanokey ring with a crystal array on the other end, and some tubes.
I just don't know how they can fuck up old fashioned super science, especially when they have all these old games to look at.
>>338552986
Fuck off then, the LAER fits the look that the series has had for energy weapons while Beth's designs stand out like a sore thumb.
>>338553175
holy fuck what the shit
this is like the 7th time I've posted this and I still hadn't seen it
>>338553357

It was literally designed by Glock. It's the Glock 86.
>>338535990
that is a boring ass animation
Can anyone make a webm of the NV marksman carbine going through its jam animation?
>>338553898
Because it is a fucked up plasma glock, you nigger. It's the glock 86. Gaston Glock, the pre-war owner of glock, uploaded his mind to a computer, and kept making guns longer after the world exploded.
>>338535990
I honestly thought this shit was a bug. We had individual round loading in NV, so what the fuck man

You're all just incredibly delusional.
>>338553898
What is it with Bethesda and awful triggers?
>>338554783
Because they have never fired a fucking gun in their collective lives and prioritize stylistic trappings over actual functional weaponry.
See the retarded PPSH "combat shotgun" in FO3 and the billions of retarded pipe weapons in FO4
Keep in mind you are discussing the people who though a shoulder fired nuclear catapult was a good idea.
