Obsidian actually said that making round-by-round reloading depended on how many rounds are still left in gamebryo was one of the hardest part of the development.

They also wanted to make it so ballistic fist consumes shotgun shells on each succesful strike, but couldn't get it to work.

Gamebryo is a shit engine with shit limitations.

You want a close combat weapon that can use limited ammo to inflict more damage? (the ripper) Too bad. Either it always uses ammo, or it never uses ammo. If you look, you'll see that all the powerfists, rippers, ballistic fists, and so on actually have small energy cells, microfusion cells, or magazines, but they couldn't bypass gamebryo's binary shit rules.

I don't know how obsidian managed to implement their lever guns. Are there any videos of them talking about it?

Because the issue is magnified when coming dropping features previous games had and what other games are too lazy to do doesn't make any player feel better about the decision.

Man, if reloads weren't cancelable or shell by shell, I'd never use a pump or level action. It's a huge issue of viability for single and multiplayer.

PC works the lever at the end of reload, even though he always does that after each shot, meaning that the gun would actually eject a live round rather than brass.

Please keep in mind that a lot of the heavy lifting for New Vegas had already been done for FO3 in the form of existing models, textures, gameplay systems, code, etc.

As good as New Vegas is, its essentially one really big total conversion mod for FO3. It wasn't made from scratch like 3 and 4 were.

Yes, Bethesda has been using the same engine since fucking Morrowind. And they've been building their new games on top of their old ones. Of course there'll be old code in there somewhere.

But each new game they make still requires writing new code, recording new audio, making new models and textures. FO3 is one such case.

New Vegas was built on top of FO3, so it uses a lot of FO3's assets and code. Hence why it was put together so quickly.

There was very little heavy lifting.

All the old fallout 3 weapon and armor textures stick out like sore thumbs, as do their shitty designs.

Compare the LAER to the bethesda made laser rifle, or look at all the riot gear armors and compare them to the raider armors the fiends wear. Even their skull helmets are more detailed than their clothes.

The world is bigger, it has more stuff in it, and there's far more shit going on under the hood than in bethesda's games. They made their own script engine, they implemented 'literally impossible!' lever reloads, and incorporated all these other things that Todd said was impossible, like thrown melee weapons, seecondary attacks for unarmed and melee weapons, put in ironsights, secondary ammo types, crafting... Saying it's a conversation is a bit of an insult.

It wasn't true 6 years ago, and isn't today.

To illustrate, here is a picture. Also, there's more 12 gauge shotgun ammo types than there are ammo types TOTAL in fallout 3.

In all seriousness, I'm no professional coder but I'd imagine when you have so much code, it's a lot safer to disable chunks of it instead of outright deleting it in case something unforeseen breaks. They could eventually go back and clean things up, but at this point the entire code base has to be such a fucking mess they're afraid of touching anything.

Obsidian brought many of them back for NV, and upgraded them further with extra weapon mods in GRA.

Here, look at this fallout 1 styled plasma pistol. Meanwhile, Bethesda's plasma pistol is like the deus ex nanokey ring with a crystal array on the other end, and some tubes.
