Are there any good star trek video games?

The only recent games that seem to give a space adventure feel is rebel galaxy. I haven't looked very hard though.

Thats sort of what got me thinking about star trek. Star trek is more about exploring and discovery while stellaris is just a mining outpost building simulator.

if you want to play as a starfleet ship commander.
Bridge commander is kind of like playing Artemis SP. you go around solving problems by telling the people at stations to do stuf.

it's a scripted game so the puzzles are the same every time. I think you can control it with voice command too.

SFC honestly plays like a Battle Arena game with you stats based on your crew. I remember it having loads of content but it's mostly combat and playing out wars.

I played that on the Game Gear. It was a strange mixture of genres and it was annoying frustrating and addicting. I didn't have a pc or a 16 bit console so it was about the best space ship game I could get.
I would have rather been playing Wing Commander or X-Wing at the time though tbqh.

like i said 2 people is enough for Han & Chewie style play.

bare minimum ive done was 1 dual screen laptop running 2 instances (Viewscreen/Server and 1 multistation) and an 1phone (2nd multistation)

STO is pretty fun if you want space battles. Ground battles can still suck a dick, but they are better than at launch. Most of the stuff in game can be bought with in-game currency, and stuff from the shop is mostly cosmetic items. Stuff that aren't cosmetic items are alt-skin ships with some upgrades (like a bit more hull strength or an extra console), inventory/bank upgrades, and duty officers.

If you want to play, I recommend starting as a Romulan so you get warbirds (you get fucking awesome abilities that charge while in combat, such as a full shield heal + shield heal over time for 2 minutes, makes you nigh unkillable, or a huge PBAoE), you get to choose either federeation or klingons at around level 10, and can use their ships if you want. If you're to put any money into the game, maybe some inventory/bank upgrades, and a bunch of duty officer packs. Duty officers are NPC's that have different duties (engineering, science, tactical, etc.) and have different abilities, either space or ground. You can "equip" (add them to stations) and get their abilities, usually passive shit like faster torpedo recharge, or reduction in damage. You can also send them on missions in real time to get you crafting mats, new equips for your ship, or consumables.

Tactical captain with a cruiser master race. One torpedo in the front, one in the back, phasers/disruptors in everything else, slot turn radius consoles. Move in a figure 8 around teh battle field, pounding their shields with phaser fire, then unleashing torpedoes as you move around them. Figure 8 pattern to keep your shields healed up, tactical captain for advanced torpedoes and combat attack patterns.

There were so many really major and freaky things that were done once and then just ignored.

Like when a fucking transporter accident DUPLICATED Riker. There were two Rikers. Two actual proper Rikers who were both Riker. One stays on the Enterprise and the other goes off somewhere, I can't remember where. And it is never brought up ever again.
His goddamn duplicate is running around. And no-one seemed to care.

DS9 is one of the best televisions shows ever but arguably the worst trek.

>minimal exploration

makes for a good show but lots of conflict with the original intention.

Thomas Riker comes back in DS9, he joined the Maquis, steals the Defiant and turns himself over to the Cardassians and they lock him up

His son shows up in STO and explains he died on his prison planet long after the Cardassians abandoned it in the war
>>
>>338539354
There's an entire episode of DS9 where Thomas Riker comes back. I believe he tries to fuck Kira.

Also, him pulling off the sideburns so he only had a goatee to show that he was the evil version was fucking hilarious.
>>
>>338539784
That episode was on today on the syfy channel.

It was almost like the show tried to say that transporters murder the original and just create copies but never quite comes out with it openly.
>>
>>338539765
Pretty sure that was the entire point of the show. TOS and TNG already cemented the direction of Star Trek, DS9 was the B-show that picked at all the underlying stuff. No point to have DS9 running at the same time as TNG and Voyager if it's just going to be the same as TNG and/or Voyager.

Universal Combat i think was the last full starship sandbox sim. might be fixed to playable by now.

I think BCM might be the most polished, since it was just an updated version of the earlier games.

everything is really slow, so you could get several hours of decent gaming trying to learn everything before you realize it's not you.

Star Trek transporters also transport consciousness but then apparently it turns out consciousness is also a thing you can make a digital backup of

Or just put on a computer for as long as you like while the body is a disintegrated mess, like that episode of DS9 where a bunch of the crew got processed into a holosuite program
>>
>>338539882
>>338540112

Q is one of the other ones I can think of, he appeared in TNG, DS9, and Voyager. Riker also appeared in one episode of Voyager (also a Q episode), and Lt. Barclay is in TNG and Voyager.
>>
>>338540050
i dont know, it's not that bad. there's a lot to do, just none of it has any bearing on anything.

it's pretty cool to fly to system, launch shuttles to do mining while you fly around destroying bases on another planet in a surface fighter....in theory.
>>
>>338540823
They transported people without consent all the time.
Wasn't there an episode where some people had some sort of scramblers implanted so transporters couldn't get a lock on them? I would definitely have gotten one of those and kept getting it upgraded so no-one could ever transport me.

Because humans are supposed to be boring and aliens are supposed to be interesting. Even in DS9 all the humans amounted to "the angry guy", "the everyman", "the augment" and "Keiko"

Harry Kim's actor outright said the human actors on Voyager were supposed to act boring so the aliens could steal the show.

It was insane that they had so many civilians on the goddamn flagship. That ship was the first into all the most dangerous situations.

I get that they were trying to show themselves as peaceful explorers and be an ambassador ship and all that.

But the entire point of their religion and the religious characters was that it was factually incorrect and they were all zealots.

It's only when non-believers like Sisko or Cunt deal with the religion that it's painted in a favorable light, but at that point the message is just 'believe in a higher ideal that what might be realistic' which has always been a message of Star Trek.

Keep in mind that in-universe most people still treated androids like shit. One scientist tried to have Data considered legal property so he could force him into a lab for study, then when Data created a daughter they tried to do the same with her too. Not to mention Bones himself and Scotty had similar attitudes upon realizing Data was an android.

Plus what a lot of people forget is she mellowed out later in the season. Had it not been fucked by a strike and had Pulaski stayed on she would've been much better received. As it stands, Crusher was just "there" and did nothing of value for 95% of the episodes.

well the thing about DS9 was that the term spinoff is an understatement, and in the best way.

>>

Roddenberry was still on his golden throne at this point and wanted to paint the ST universe (and not just the feds in general) as being this beacon of hope. The Enterprise-D reflects this philosophy in not being crewed entirely by pseudo-militant forces and having holodecks and shit.

Plus you have to remember that it was supposed to be a more relevant plot point that the saucer section could detach, and thus you could keep civilians out of fire and just send the other half of the ship into shit.

They also hung the lampshade thoroughly on this slightly naive approach when Q slaps them about for being hilariously underprepared for things like the Borg, and DS9 demonstrates that the Federation was trying to pretend the universe was scary after this by developing things like the Defiant (a cloaking spartan warship so overpowered it literally kept tearing itself apart) and Enterprise-E (take all the space they were using for civilian facilities and putting quantum torpedo launchers there instead)

TL;DR Roddenberry wanted to make you hope for the future, but the writers weren't afraid of showing the potential consequence of such naivety.

TOS characters outside of the main trio didn't really grow much of a personality until the movies, though. That said, they're great at that point.

I rewatched a good chunk of Voyager recently (first time since it was still regularly airing) and I feel like a lot more of the characters' potential showed through this time. Most of the issues really felt like the writers just not knowing how to properly handle them.

>Don't take a single planet or territory.
>Don't just mass-nuke Earth from orbit
>Federation doesn't even make them surrender, just tells them to fuck off behind the fence.
>Require omnipotent energy beings to tell the Federation the 31st section of the Federation Charter makes it illegal to own niggers this hard, and tells them not to develop nukes.
>Great Romulan military victories in the following century:
>-That time they lost their entire space-CIA fleet in the Gamma quadrant to bad intel from a double agent.
>- That time they captured about 30 Klingons and keep -some- of them imprisoned for a few decades, only with multiple escapes and it being common knowledge where they were!
>- That time they had a fair 3-1 fight with a crippled, captainless federation ship and an already blown-up Klingon colony, winning the fight and losing the political battle forever.
> - That time they let section 31 rule a significant part of their government, being fooled by a ruse a federation doctor saw through.

The original Mass Effect felt kind of like what would happen if TOS was made today, with a single-season with a persistent story arc. I rag on them because I love them, really. They manage to maintain a mysterious aura throughout all this nonsense and it would have been nice if they had been dealt a slightly more interesting hand as the writers had envisaged.

Instead Spockson Mandela gets them to morally surrender half way through TNG, and they only serve as background radiation for the rest of it and DS9, with one tiny cameo in VOY.

Its pretty sad that ENT both made good use of out of the romulans, and had planned to make them a major part of the show later on.

If only they hadn't been really, really shit.

>It's a "we're going to pretend Data is just a fucking computer and threaten to treat him like one even though we never do this in any other episode except these ones, and the fact we made him a fucking starfleet member means nothing, which is just weird" episode.

Every time I see her I can't help but wonder what kind of noise she'd make with a foot of cock stuffed up her ass

Yeah, but they both hate temporal mechanics so its A-Ok.

I think the worst thing (in a huge list) that happened to O'brien isn't even his death. It was that time he spent 20 years in mind prison. That shit was brutal.

I mean, at least Tom Paris had SOME semblance of character development, but Kim didn't change at all for the whole fucking show.

Not really. It's just log in, do the new story mission, then ask yourself if you want to grind currency so you can grind currency slightly faster.

I remember RLM talks about her in some of their videos how happy she was for getting into Star Trek, she apparently had to do some awful movies with shit directors prior to ST.

You're forgetting someone.

Ah yes, Tom Paris.

He reminds me of a old native american legend back on earth.

Pel a shit.

Now Lumba, there's a female I'd let chew my tube grubs.

It's kind of incredible how hard that fucker phoned it in for the entire show.

I don't think Paris was that bad, or at least there were times they managed to squeeze a least a little blood out of the rock.

Kim was a unchanging nonentity throughout. I think the mistake was choosing an asian for the role, if they'd got someone who could actually grow a beard they could have hopefully tapped into the mysterious power of beard in star trek.

Instead, we get that weird episode where Kim is all gruff and slightly rude because he let everyone die and got home and felt bad, but its okay it never happened.

Compare and contrast with Bashir's character development.

Don't forget the time he was an evil clone and didn't know it.
