Aldrich is easily my favorite Dark Souls villain. There's something mystical and somewhat Shakesperean about his character, this lost cleric who forcibly ascended past humanity and hollowing through gluttony alone.

DS2 isn't awful stand alone, but it's utterly lore-raping and there are several BIG PLOT ELEMENTS that aren't so much ambigous as straight up unexplainable.
DS3 expands upon the DS1 lore a lot better without straight up just stealing surface elements. There are plot ties that are loose, but they invite speculation instead of requiring it to make sense of it at all.
For example, compare the final bosses. The cinder you can speculate about, but it's pretty clear that it is an analgam of other lords that have hollowed and defend the flame from usurpers and weaklings, like gwyn in DS1. Now go ahead and try to make sense of Nashandra's motives or methods. Go ahead.
