Who cares about Denuvo right now.

A more interesting fact is that internet service providers are threatening to turn off your internet if you download certain movies/tv shows.

If that happens to games, ALL HOPE WILL BE LOST.

It's only certain people (like HBO) pressuring IPs to shut down torrent uploaders and egregious downloaders. It's far and away not the first time people have tried this. I mean, they wanted to send Napster users to jail. Whether anything happens at all remains to be seen nothing will happen.

They don't. Utilizing their connection is business for them, and they want to keep you happy so you keep paying for service. Letters are only ever sent out in the most 'FINE GEEZ' manner possible, and they will rarely ever follow up on it.

Comcast is a special case as they not only provide internet but also own tons of media property themselves, which is why Comcast can be one of the least piracy-tolerant ISPs.

In the end it largely depends on your regional office, some are more lax than others, some are complete hardasses who send you letters the second they catch you.

>>338475734
It generally demonstrates a lack of faith on the publisher's behalf.

Well, publishers may just realize that piracy wasn't that big a problem in the first place, and that all the money they pour into Denuvo licence, they don't make it back with sales.

Worse, they may realize many of the pirates actually bought games, and without a piratable version to try it, they plain won't buy it.

Publishers will lose as always, because they're fucking retarded.

>This is a list of games and software available on Steam that do not use any third party DRM (e.g GFWL, Uplay, etc.) or the Steamworks CEG ("Custom Executable Generation") component, making them effectively Launcher-free once installed. This means that you can copy the game folder anywhere you want and launch the .exe program directly without being online or having Steam or a third party software running.

>Inb4 you have to install through steam so its DRM
You'd have to download it anyways queer, is GOG DRM because you have to download the installer?
>>
I try all games before I buy them.
If devs make this impossible, you know for a fact it's because the game is shit and they don't want people to know it until after they've paid the price of admission and they bet on them being too indifferent to return them.

For me it only means I avoid a shit game, and if I STILL want it despite of that, I'll wait a couple of years and get it for spare change.
>>
>>338477398
It probably won't, I don't think any group is even actively trying to crack it.

Last I heard 3DM gave up on Just Cause 3. Not that I want to play it but just an indication
>>
>>338476140
Because its the only DRM to actually get it right by not being intrusive, or requiring additional launchrs/accounts, it's basically invisible to the end user unless you're looking for it specifically (in which case you're the exact person the DRM is intended to keep out)

People shit on DRM in the past for being obnoxious bloatware and wished it was like Denuvo, but when Denuvo delivers, everyone balks, showing their true colors.

The only reason to be mad about Denuvo is because it stops you from getting the game for free. It's that simple.

>I try all games before I buy them.

None. He's just a butthurt faggot.

Pirates who used to buy on sales, will still buy on sales. If they really want to test the game they can just download it and test it for two whole hours before asking for a refund.

I dunno what it cost devs to get a license for denuvo, but it certainly isn't mindless.

It's already a proven fact, studied, that piracy in many ways helps the industry.

The industry wouldn't grow at such a phenomenal rate back then if it weren't for piracy.

Many people would not have discovered the joys of video games without piracy because the games were so expensive.

Also, those equating piracy to stealing is stupid as hell.

These aren't DRM free titles: they just have an implementation so weak that it can be cracked by filesystem operations. It's still bypassing the DRM, though.

Several games don't save or have other major problems, probably just because the DRM implementation is even weaker.

I don't expect to get two more though.

be careful with chrome too, I had torguard on and used chrome to magnet link episode 3 of game of thrones a few weeks ago and got a warning so I think chrome ratted me out or something, idk I was kind of drunk I'm not sure how I fucked it up, I had the app kill configured if the vpn connection dropped so I don't know how they saw me. You tell that that to a judge. And the answer you'll be given back is that piracy is not theft.

And, in theory, I live in a democracy. Meaning I do get to make the rules. Not by myself, but supposedly I'm part of the process. Thee concept is probably alien to you.

Amusing fact: copyright was created to protect creators from editors, who would at the time rack money by selling books without ever paying the authors.
It's now used to protect companies from the public. Quite often at the expense of creators, who can even be deprived of their work.

So yeah, outdated tool.

>>
>>338481954
>at the expense of everyone else

But that's wrong. You're not causing any expenditure for the developers for pirating their games. It's the same as not buying it, and being unable to pirate it isn't a guarantee that you'll buy it. Most people pirate because either they're poor or unwilling to spend on games, and making them unable to pirate won't magically stop them being poor and unwilling to give money for games. They'll just stop playing them.

You could color it any way you want but piracy will never be the same thing as stealing in the mind of the average joe, nor does it have the same the same legal ramification as stealing, so I don't understand why people constantly make these parallels.

In anyland. Economics major here. The very first thing you learn here is the concept of economic rationality, which boils down to "people will always want everything at the lowest possible price".

What's the absolute lowest price? Zero. Free. People buy things instead of stealing them only because the fear of retribution makes the prospect unfavorable from a risk-reward point of view.

Not the good ones and certainly not the consumer, that is us in case you inbred fuckups forgot about that. Good developers always only gained from piracy, never the other way around. And bad products always gained from anti-piracy/not spreading knowledge about the product.

Piracy has always been wrong, it's been like that for the past 10 years and it's only thanks to steam that buying games became a far superior option to pirating them due to how terrible pirated games are in how complicated it is to actually run them.

I'd rather be a good consumer that supports buying bad games than a thief that steals good ones.

The most important thing: contrary to popular belief, Denuvo is NOT a newly developed and modern super-protection! In fact, behind Denuvo hides the ordinary VMProtect, from Russian roots, with minor differences (like a kind of fork). The mythical “strength” of this protection is the lack of a good debugger for debugging x64 (64-bit executable PE files). The beloved OllyDbg debugger/disassembler works only with x86 executables, and it’s x64 version has not yet been released. The only (barely) suitable debugger is x64dbg, but at the moment it is still a very embryonic, weak and poorly-optimized product.

Ironically, Denuvo’s popularity gave x64dbg a huge boost in contributions from several programmers.

Why wouldn't you? You get access to legit multiplayer (if applicable) and support games that you enjoy, thereby encouraging more games like that to be made.

All the crying and bitching on the internet are like pissing in the ocean, nobody gives a fuck. The one thing you can count on any company caring about is their income.

Pirating a game insist that you had no interest in the multiplayer to begin with, because there's no way you can test the multiplayer without giving them money. Thus, no one pirates a game for the multiplayer.

This is the last game I pirated in order to try. I went through the tutorial where you play as Savan, then bought it because it ran wonderfully and the gameplay was fun. No regrets, amazing game.

I wanted to try RotTR and DOOM. About RotTR I see a lot of conflicting opinions and it seems to run poorly on systems similar to mine, so I'm simply not buying it. I tried the DOOM (MP-only) beta and not only was the game shit, it also didn't use both my GPUs. Supposedly the campaign is great, but my only experience with the game was shit and I cannot try the full, supposedly amazing, version, so I'm not buying it.

I tried the Overwatch beta though, that was fun and I pre-ordered a physical copy.

If you want to go by a college/university ideology of advertising, business, and sales: sure.

The reality, however, is if someone has the money and means to purchase a game, but doesn't simply because they can get it for free, the assumption is that they would have bought the game had the opportunity to pirate it not exist; thus, resulting in the loss of a sale.

Case closed.

That's not reality though. Still just an assumption.

There is no such thing as a lost sale. You cannot claim loss on something that is almost entirely speculative.

You can bitch all you want about only being able to sell a game in China for $15 instead of $50-$100 (cry me a river, by the way), or you can shut the fuck up and actually deal with the market situations. By this logic, demos are a cause of lost sales since people who have the money and means to purchase a game, but doesn't simply because they tried a sample for free and didn't end up buying it. Costing you those precious sales.

That's the kind of mental gymnastics you're using to defend an industry that could not give a single fuck about you beyond your wallet. Actively condemning pirating is like being a crab in a bucket, trying to pull the other crabs down with you.

What, it is. Games cost a lot more to make now and the PC audience has grown tremendously over the past 7 years, there are more than 13 Million concurrent Steam users and only 400K bought a game from a highly praised franchise that has been around for 2 decades. Which then brings me to the next point, and that point is that the core audience on PC is very small.

But looking at a screenshot- or indeed a clip- of an anime doesn't make you less likely to buy it. In fact, it makes you (slightly) more likely.

I've been receiving letters for the last decade every few years when I'm too lazy to turn on Peer Guardian. I don't know if some major company has stepped up the threats or something recently, but this is nothing new. It might depend on your ISP, but I've never had anything more than a letter which leads me to believe that more than anything else it's either a legal obligation or a scare tactic.

I think this might be the only person in the thread who's happy about denuvo.

>The only reason to be mad about Denuvo is because it stops you from getting the game for free. It's that simple.

What about playing legitamite backups? Denuvo doesn't work without proper activation.

If Mafia 1&2 had Denuvo fat chance you would be able to play even if you were willing to pay now.

>Just look at Dark Souls 3, it sold more than most.

Probably because it doesn't use Denuvo.

No. They are upset over anti-piracy assets being implemented into games that may have planned to pirate. I'm not sure how they would even win this argument.

Then why are you even replying? Are you also a Superman? Just wanted to show your big cock off, big boy?

Doom is a rather niche title. Of course it won't sell as many units as call of booty #32. I'm sure they've accounted for it and done projections and all the other shit accountants are paid to do.

TR2014 started slower than expected but ongoing sales were sufficient to justify the sequel.

>And look at RoTTR
okay
>Rise of the Tomb Raider’s first month of PC sales have almost tripled the number of copies sold on Xbox One in the same period of time last November.
Wow, such a flop! However will they survive?? The crash is surely incoming!

>Then why are you even replying?
Becuase he's proving you wrong.

Also anon is right. These "anti-piracy assets" are implemented into a fraction of games people actually want to play, and the vast majority of these threads are full of people who are upset that people pirate instead of spending their money.
>>
>>338500974
That doesn't really seem like a fair comparison. The hype and anticipation for those games were massive and it seems like you're implying that if they had used better copyright protection they wouldn't have sold as many.
Generally that only happens with very annoying and intrusive DRM.

How is it not a fair comparision?

>non Denuvo games only sells +1m
>holy shit look at all these lost sales from piracy! if it wasn't for piracy we would have sold even more millions of copies!

>Denuvo game sells less than 400k
