So, be honest, how is it?
Jumping section, waves of bullet sponge enemies, jumping section, cutscene. Rinse and repeat.
The same as previous 3
Almost on rails cinematic quircky experience of genocide via mediocre shooting and cuhrazee setpieces

Worse than UC1-3. Better than Golden Abyss.
Best game of the generation so far, OP.
I hate how everyone and their mother is heralding this generic PS4-exclusive shit-show as the second coming of Christ. Yeah, some of the physics are neat, but, my god, it's like it's shilled fucking everywhere.
Quite good! I enjoyed the story, the multiplayer is mediocre at best, not enough depth to it.
I give it a solid 7.5.
GOTY so far

Visually stunning and gameplay is best of the series.
Not sure how ND managed to get such great results out of PS4 hardware.
Shooting controls are vastly improved. Playing on crushing, and once you get to the island, it goes from being cake to the hardest game I've ever played.
>>338423115
Loved it, but unlike uncharted 2 I don't think I could play it multiple times. Multiplayer is fun but again, not as good as uncharted 2.
Still though, its better than 3 and looks pretty incredible in certain areas.
I have Uncharted 1-3 but never got around to them. Is U1 skipable and can I go right into U2 or should I play all 3?

4 > 2 > 1 = 3
>>338427425
yeah, i dont like defending 30fps, but i didnt notice any lag in the framerate for the game.
It looks so good it's actually fun to just walk around throwing grenades everywhere so you can look at the amazing fire and smoke effects. Can't say I'm gonna play it more than once, though.
I have to say, it's shocking how well this game runs for how good it looks. Once I got to Madagascar I fully expected the game to struggle with the open area, but I couldn't notice any drops at all.
The multiplayer is pretty mediocre. Could be good if the maps were more focused on the rope mechanic, but they're all generic shit with almost no verticality to them so you spend most of your time running and shooting instead of doing fun things.
Okay, Uncharted 4 is good but what about the other PlayStation exclusive?
Disappointing in the worst way, there's many great things tucked into this game but they are dragged down by scripted sequences that take away your control as a player and tie you down to a mediocre story
If they balanced out the jumping with more shooting segments, it could easily be a 9/10 but the shit pacing, bad characters and half assed story bring it down to a 7/10
It's a mediocre movie. 5/10

1 is really short (like 6 hours of you don't suck) and it's obviously very important storywise.
I'd play them all, even if you just blast through on Easy, 4 is full of great callbacks and fan service, that will be lost on you if you didn't play all 3 originals.
But yeah, the gameplay in 1 isn't great. They had all the climbing and traversal systems, and shooting, but it didn't occur to them to combine the two. So it's mostly just a cover shooter with platforming in between fights. Later games (especially 4) let you pull of lots of crazy shit.
>>338423115

>how is it
This is coming from a JRPG fan, if more AAA games were like this, I'd actually buy them.
The game is fun, on a technical level it's impressive, in terms of visuals it looks fucking incredible. The story isn't convoluted and pretentious, the themes are simple yet solid. Animations are tight, fluid and seamless, character development interactions feel completely natural instead of game-like allowing you to develop empathy and attachment for the characters almost straight away. The level design, platforming and climbing are surprisingly good for a hub-world game. The art direction is simply phenomenal and attention to detail is fucking bonkers, it really is that well crafted.
The best thing about this game is that they combine all it's strengths with tech and it immerses you really, really well. Immersion in video games is rare but when a game nails atmosphere this well well while delivering one of the best visual experiences to boot it just impresses me. I wish more AAA games were like this.

See, what's I'm curious about these is how much, if at all, these scenarios and situations are hardcoded. Like is the game's engine design to do something like "The player issues a rope swing command within this time frame and then hit a grenade command within another time frame while pointing the cursor in this general area: cause event #41 to play out." instead of an actual physics engine figuring it out.
Like for instance the game The Order 1886 had some decent visuals but in most situations even when out of quick time events the game only had a small handful of possible events that could play out.
The game looks beautifully optimized and I always admire that but I remember some of the jumps and ledge sequences in Uncharted 2 and 3 as well as the new Tomb Raider where Drake or Lara kinda snapped to the proper location because the engine decided I made the jump and fixed their positioning, not the positioning and the physics engine determining I did it.

Honest to god fan of the first two and liked 3 just fine. This game was a generous 7/10 at most. The fact that people are writing reviews that "its the great game ever made" is absurd.
There is seriously way too much ledge jumping and not enough combat or interactivity, outside of ledge jumping, from the user.
Uncharted 2 remains the best, and again, this is not "The best game ever made". Whoever wrote that was definitely paid for the review

I'm mainly talking about the explosions and stuff happening in the backgrounds. The rope swing was just a hypothetical modifier of how to determine events playing out (Drake throws grenade on roof, go to A. Drake throws grenade while rope, go to B).
I would really like to see some of the ways Naughty Dog optimized this game.
>>338431298
>The fact that people are writing reviews that "its the great game ever made" is absurd.
I haven't seen any reviews like that, but I know plenty of reviews praise the attention to detail, the best in class animation, the stunning visuals, the gameplay additions, the decent narrative and the art design.

>>338431798
>game of the year

>>338431752
I don't understand what you're asking.
None of those webms are scripted in any way. That one where he swings around with the grenade launcher is completely in-game, the explosion at the start is because of a grenade thrown by an enemy (you can see it glowing red), and all the subsequent explosions are due to the player firing the grenade launcher.
That one where he jumps down before swinging and punching that guy is not scripted at all either. You don't even start on that tower for the encounter, it was probably quite difficult for him to stealth up there without being seen to set that up.
>>338431828

You shouldn't compare U4 and TLoU since even if they're kind of similar, the goal they want to achieve is vastly different.
The game has plotholes and doesn't really denies it, focusing more on characters than on plot consistency or originality.
But either way you answered to your own question: Sam does lie because he knew this would be the only way to get Nathan back in action. But yeah he didn't really think about the consequences.

And yet uncharcted 2 among thieves 3 a thiefs end is GOTY?
The game tries to be a VIDEO GAME, something Sony and their affiliates are new to doing this gen, so I give them a little credit for it.
However, it sadly falls flat because it has too many cutscenes, too many obviously scripted events, enemies are too braindead, and overall despite the """"pretty"""" graphics, everything starts to blend together after a while.
I hate to be negative, but for this I have to give it a 3/10. I really can't tolerate games thinking they need 4-6 hours of cutscenes, no matter how much gameplay they claim to offer.

In Binary Domain you can tell your teammate to focus on attack or retreat, if you headshot the enemies they will start shooting each other, you can also upgrade weapons for your teammates

Indeed. I mean, I liked how they focused more on the civilization than the previous lost cities, but that shit literally takes up a third of the game whereas the lost city has mostly always been a climax in the previous games.
It's just so weird that after 5 games of the series calling itself "action adventure", only Golden Abyss and 4 actually embrace the adventure aspect. At least Uncharted 2 makes no pretenses about being primarily a third person shooter with adventure elements.
>>338436228
>UC4 doesn't have gameplay on par with RE6
This is b8.
pacing is completely fucked in 4, worse than 3. an opening 4-5hours of nothing but exposition dumps, painfully boring walking or swimming sequences, bad puzzles and a godawful amount of handholdy platforming and a few gunfights sprinkled here and there. i thought TLoU's start was slow, but holy fucking shit uncharted 4 puts that to shame. even the more open areas feel largely pointless with nothing but fluff and only a few instances of optional fights or story moments.
thankfuly the game gets better about 1/3 in, but you still have to deal with the shitty platforming constantly (literally half of the game is pressing X on a wall) and they go back to those annoying walking bits here and there(going back to playing young drake in the middle of shit going down killed the pacing even more) and towards the end and to top it all off with a shitty boss fight thats just one step above a traditional QTE. nice ending though and cap off tot he series.
its just a goddamn shame cause the game has good combat and when it shows up its quite fun, but nearly everything else has barely been improved and the one thing they did improve drastically on is limited to only about 1/3 of the games content.

From my understanding is that Avery honestly had a good idea of founding the city along with the other pirates.
Then the other pirates got greedy and started to kill the colonists and gather an army to kill each other for the gold. Avery got super paranoid and decided to cut people's arms off and mouths and booby trap the whole place. Avery and Tew managed to poison them all the decided to just leave with all the gold. Then you have Tew betray him which sent the already paranoid Avery into a more crazed frenzy which resulted in their deaths. The idea is that they all had good intentions in the beginning but all that gold made them too paranoid that another pirate wasn't going to steal all of it.
It's really funny to me seeing all these retards bash Uncharted 1 because of "archaic" design or story or whatever. I recently replayed it in the collection and it holds up way more than any other game in the series besides Uncharted 2. Biggest complaint I can really think of was having to change weapons to throw grenades, and sixaxis controls, and both are removed in the collection.
It's hard to describe it perfectly, but the first Uncharted really feels like a classic Naughty Dog game. I noticed this while replaying it, the platforming actually requires precision, a lot of the vine/chain swinging jumps are easy to miss if your timing is off. Certainly not the best, but the platforming on the wall of the fort or inside the cathedral actually feels like platforming, as opposed to the "PRESS X TO AWESOME" shit that every game after Uncharted 2 does. Same with enemy placement and guns, if you're running and gunning and constantly swapping out weapons and choosing which enemies to melee combo to get more of the ammo you want, there's an almost Jak 2/3-esque variety to the shooting.
I'd write more, but I'd rather just tell anyone that thinks Uncharted 1 is a bad game (especially if they like any of the sequels) is a colossal faggot.
>>338437156
>they didnt even try to improve it here either

You can now literally control how Nate extends his arm with the analog stick to make much more precise movements. The animations have also undergone on overhaul for all aspects of climbing. They also introduced the piton as a new mechanic, and of course the hook.

There are multiple elements to gameplay aside from the amount of ways you can shoot an enemy. For all the good that RE6 does, the level design is absolutely horrid, it's the most constrained mainline RE title to date whereas Uncharted is the most open in its own series.
>>338437502

Honestly, the way they advertised the game in a commercial that has Nate regretting his decisions while inside the burning boat makes me think he was originally going to die before someone said "HEY MAYBE WE SHOULDN'T KILL DRAKE IN CASE SONY STILL WANTS TO MILK HIM"
>>338438265
The franchise doesn't need that many quiet moments, even in the final game, it's fucking Uncharted.
They could have entirely done without half the drama between Nate and Sam and made the story about Nate actually wanting to find a lost pirate treasure, and as a send off they could have made him actually succeed for once.
Making the final game in a blockbuster action franchise be a slow moving drama with horrible pacing is a really shitty move.
None of the characters took themselves as seriously in the previous three games as they do now. It's just Druckman and his obsession with acting all fucking mature.
There's almost no focus whatsoever on the actual adventure in Uncharted 4. It's all focused on the relationship between Nate and Sam, just like The Last Of Us was focused on the relationship between Joel and Elly, except Sam is a really boring character.
Druckman just turned Uncharted 4 into The Last Of Us: Adventure Spinoff.

There's a pretty strong amount of leniency when it comes to the rope swing distance and speed, but that's about all the game does to compensate for you.

Sam at least isn't as much of an ass pull as I thought he would be, but he seriously doesn't have a lot to offer as a character aside from MUH FAMILY. I do like how the journal gets filled out more dynamically this time around, but the Uncharted 2 journal had so much more personality.
>>338423115
This was barely an Uncharted game. Breaking out of a Catholic school? Sneaking around a mansion? Not Uncharted.
>>338439650
The 4th part is a fan service dumbass
I feel like Uncharted 4 forgot what made the other 3 (4 really) games unique. They all had a very pulp action feel to them and the characters weren't taken super seriously.
Each game has Nate in search of a lost city, not because he's forced to, but because he's a treasure hunter and that's what he does. In each game he ends up having to stop some kind of mad villain from using the power or riches from the city to gain power and try and take over the world or something. It's simple cartoony action formula, and it serves the cartoony premise of "buried treasure and ancient curses" well. The most drama the series ever had was casual romance or bromance
Uncharted 4 then completely turns it around and makes the whole game about the relationship between Drake and his brother who we've never met before and don't care about. Nate doesn't even want to go on the adventure, or find the lost city, and tries to quit multiple times. The only threat in Uncharted 4 comes from Sam, who is too stubborn to just let Rafe have the treasure, since unlike the other villains in the other games, Rafe literally did nothing wrong. He just wants the glory of finding it. He's not going to take over the world or give himself immortality. He just wants to make a name for himself, by himself.
This game spent all its time creating a dramatic relationship between Nate and Sam and Nate and Elena, and it forgot to add an actual fucking adventure, which is the whole god damn point of the games. It's like watching an Indiana Jones movie where Indy doesn't actually do anything.

>but I'm pretty sure there's not a single QTE in Uncharted 4
Define QTE
>>338440572
the swordfight at the end was a more advanced QTE for me.
Antialiasing is the best feature of the game.
Otherwise it's Uncharted:
Long ass cutscenes all the time, worse than MGS4
Shooting, while very fluid, is still somewhat mediocre and lacks punch, Max Payne 3 is so much better in this area still
It resembles TV show more than a game, that's why it is so popular as normal/casual people just want to stare while drool drips from their mouths. Game made for vegetables.
It's okay but it's not the second coming of Christ. I got bored in three hours.
>>338440376
>It's like they tried to make Uncharted like The Last Of Us.
I mean, I get that Druckman has his style, and Uncharted 4 is certainly in his style, but the fact that they changed the style on the last game, and even went so far as to throw out 8 months of work Amy had already done on the game, was pretty sad. They should have just used the work Amy had already created, and just tried to match it for the rest of the game. She was clearly always the creative force behind the series.
>>338440572
A QTE is a contextual button prompt (usually in a cutscene), that has failure conditions if the button displayed is not pressed quick enough.
You're most likely thinking of contextual commands like pressing triangle to move some beams, or grab breaks, where you mash (or hold) triangle. Those are NOT QTEs.
You people need to learn what QTEs are. Mashing triangle to escape a grab is a game mechanic, because you can do that in every instance of that occurring.
>>338440773
>worse than MGS4
literally 1 hour cutscenes
>>338440363
A lot of action games have "press [button] repeatedly for more attacks" during some sort of special. Uncharted has button prompts during psuedo-cutscenes which is what makes them QTEs

>Long ass cutscenes all the time, worse than MGS4
Nothing is worse than MGS4 in that regard. NOTHING. U4 is closer to Max Payne 3 in that regard than anything, although the transitions are in real-time instead of partially blending pre-rendered video. At least U4 lets you skip them, but half the time they're masking a loading screen.
>Shooting, while very fluid, is still somewhat mediocre and lacks punch, Max Payne 3 is so much better in this area still
For the record, I typed up my first counterpoint before I even knew you were going to mention Max Payne 3. Honestly this isn't even fair, Max Payne 3 is mechanically the best in its genre.
Fair points, though.
>>338440941
A button prompt is not the same as a QTE. A QTE is something that's not tied to game mechanics in any way, and is usually a surprise to the player.
An example of a QTE was in uncharted 1, when drake knocked over that pillar. During the cutscene, you're told to press circle to not die. That's a QTE.
Being told at the beginning of the game "Mash triangle to escape a grab" is not a QTE, it's a melee combat mechanic.
The end of the game is also not a QTE, as it's just the control scheme for the sword. Square attacks, Triangle blocks left, Circle blocks right. There's nothing QTEish about that at all.
>>338440925
>A QTE is a contextual button prompt (usually in a cutscene), that has failure conditions if the button displayed is not pressed quick enough.
>You're most likely thinking of contextual commands like pressing triangle to move some beams, or grab breaks, where you mash (or hold) triangle. Those are NOT QTEs.
>You people need to learn what QTEs are. Mashing triangle to escape a grab is a game mechanic, because you can do that in every instance of that occurring.
Nathan vs Nadine if you miss the QTE she knocks him out cold and the game repeats until she throws him out, that's QTE for you.

That's not a QTE, it's just telling you to press the attack button. The button you're probably mashing anyway. I guess you could say it's a QTE because it shows a prompt, but it's literally just telling you to punch.

No, the part where she cornered him if you don't push the button Nadine would knock out Nathan and the game restarts until you push the button to headbutt her, that's a QTE because if you don't do you lose
Anyone else extremely happy they skipped the mythical stuff in 4? I kept dreading some skeletons to start waltzing in, like the yetis or ghouls.

>>338442096
Alright, I'll give that one to you. That's one QTE. Now how does that make the game "full of QTEs".
Bayonetta was full of QTEs, Resisdent Evil is full of QTEs, God of War is packed with QTEs. Uncharted has one or two per game.
>>338442202
I'm dissapointed they did.
>>338442386
You're obviously mad because you're terrible at it, but I'll have you know I liked TLOU's multiplayer as well. U4 multiplayer feels similar to U2's with some of the good stuff from U3 thrown in. Once the multiplayer content rolls out (especially the co-op) it's going to be GOAT.
>>338442202
I mean it's just dumb that they didn't at the very least do something like the gold being radioactive in Golden Abyss
It's fucking stupid that they had to have the game end with them throwing the gold away because greed is bad, plus the supernatural shit gave way to a fantastic final boss in 2
>>338442578
I'm not great at it, but at least 2.5 KD and it's simply not fun. Friends and I fully expected it to be our next game, but it's just fucking boring.
>>338442880
It's really strange to think that Golden Abyss did some things so much better than U4 did. It was probably the first Dude Raider game with actual Dude Raiding, like getting all the charcoal rubbings and piecing them together. Nate's journal in 4 is more dynamic, but doesn't really fit any purpose.
I barely even remember GA to be honest, but I remember it achieving its goal far better than U4 does.

Get some bedsheets you filthy fuck
Literally a game made for Youtube Let's players and reviewers
Try to start a new playthrough after you finished with the game, there is abosultely no replay value with this shit
When you are spending more time watching a movie rather than holding the controller and doing shit SOMETHING IS WRONG
The entire gameplay
>cutscene
>mundane mobile-tier task or walking section
>cutscene
>shooting section
>cutscene
>do some jumping
>cutscene
>walk for a bit
>cutscene
i don't get people who like to be fucking interrupted every 5-10 minutes
just browse a cutscene compilation on Youtube, it's better and free
i don't like it at all, but objectively the game does what it is supposed to do, it would be a solid 7/7.5 for me even if i don't like it
but if you are going to tell me the gameplay is better than U1 and 2 you either haven't played any game or you are full of bullshit, this has to be the game where you hold the controller the least

>no bedsheets
ugieegh fuck that feeling how did you not kill yourself
7/10 if I'm feeling generous. It was competent but that's about the best I can say for it. The combat sucks, getting shot at makes Nathan aim like Michael J. Fox in a bouncy castle so any semblance of accuracy is thrown out the window. The climbing puzzles are mostly "Follow the trail of white paint the pirates left on these rocks", the end boss was characteristically awful, the framerate constantly went to shit in the second half.
It's all style and no substance. I can see how that appeals to casuals but anyone rating it over an 8 has an opinion that can be safely disregarded.
>>338445250
It honestly gives Metal Gear Solid 4 a run for its money when it comes to cutscene length.
>>338444994
Are you fucked in the head? 7.5 is a good score.
>>338445250
but when do play the game, the gameplay is more refined than 1 or 2. I had more fun with the fucking grappling hook than the entirety of U1, and I dont even hate that game.
Biggest complaint I could give is that stealth isnt refined. otherwise, everything gameplay wise is pretty awesome for me.
the cutscenes and extended "walking around" sections are another issue though.

>Still acclaimed as masterpieces
>Fans who never actually talk about the game outside of release will literally froth at the mouth if anyone dares to suggest that they are anything less than perfect
I don't get it. I really don't fucking get it. Marketing has infected these people so much that they don't have a free thought or critical eye for anything anymore.
>Even PETITIONING websites to remove bad review scores
>Voice actor involved with the game is even doing this to cement what a complete and utter sellout he truly is
And meanwhile when trying to fight "corruption" they fight literally whos and accomplish literally nothing because they're just screaming at a brick wall ignoring and even defending actual industry corruption
Video game writing and design is obviously still completely down the shitter in terms of artistic merit if this shit is getting acclaimed as the second coming.

The rest of the series had the games end with Drake having to stop a bad guy from using the curses of the treasures and save the world, like Lazarevic using the sap to become an unstoppable war lord or Navarro using the curse of El Darado and unleashing zombies, that was the point of the mystics in the main three
This time Sam is just as selfish as the villain, hunting down a pile of treasure out of vanity and end up losing all of the treasure because booby traps
>>338447140
They know where the treasure is and most of the traps have been triggered, there's no reason they can't take a boat out there and grab it all at their own pace. But instead they're going to Malaysia for some reason.
The game isn't bad. If you've played it, it's obviously better than average (average meaning mediocre or half-assed). There was thought put into, so I can't give it a bad grade.
Logically, it's a good game.
There are weird bits here and there. But damn did my heart melt when I found myself swinging on ropes on a pirate ship.
I don't know. I can't hate this game. Help me /v/.
>>338447513

It would be a sense of fun adventure the game itself lacked

>best games

Consolefags sure get happy with small things.
That being said, Naughty Dog is an amazingly talented studio. Uncharted 4 is by no means a technical achievement, it did nothing graphically that other games haven't been doing for years (tesselation, high-res textures, ambient occlusion, indirect illumination and so on), but their implementation of those features is very competent, and they have a great attention to detail that other studios simply don't bother with.
This is not at all a platform-specific advantage, which is why it's sad to see such an amazing game being held hostage to an inferior platform. Naughty Dog could easily just port it to PC and have it running at 60+ FPS, higher resolutions, proper anti-aliasing, more/better shaders and even improve where they had to cut corners like the low-poly water near shores or the ugly sliding textures when rocks slide down cliffs. Sadly this will not happen, so until PS4 emulation is available on PC we only have a limited, subpar version of this great game. It's a shame.
Should I be disappointed that there was no monster/supernatural plot twist, like the mutants from U1 or purple pillar men from U2?
>>338448949

>>338449349

>>338449561
I was expecting fish people
playing through 2 now, just got to the bit after the ice-temple platforming bit with the yeti monsters
it's the fucking same as 1, just with a better coat of paint; poorly thought-out encounters, easy puzzles, easy platforming, enemies that soak up an ABSURD number of bullets, grenade spam out the dickhole
kind of upset that i got suckered into playing one-and-a-half of these turds; these games are pretty, and that is all that they have going for them
I like how every game after 1 acknowledges how Drake is a mass murdering monster.
I expected in the the U4 epilogue for Drake to tell his daughter about how many people he's killed in his life, but no. The secret he's keeping from her was that he's just a cool treasure hunter.
>>338423115
no bias intended:
it's ok. the story is non-existent. it's an endless wild goose chase circle jerk hoping to hook you with da Vinci code tier historical mystery nonsense. that said, character interactions are enjoyable and it's nice seeing nate and sully hang out. sam is dead weight though. no presence or charisma to speak of, but that's just what troy baker does to characters.
dialogue is mostly bland. every joke is pg tier. naughty dog writing is very careful not to allow any joke or quip that could possibly offend another living soul. nate is a boring boyscout, which makes his incessant narrating tiresome.
gameplay is 75% movie. you mostly walk, talk, do the same mechanically shallow climbing from 2007, and occasionally shoot. shootings fun, the physics are nice, sounds are good. car physics and destruction are sound for a game with almost no driving or destroying of things.
violence is Disney field compared to last of us, which takes away some weight and satisfaction from the shooting.
graphics are good but not mind blowing. reminded me of quantum breaks which recieved little cricial praise on graphics.
agency is constantly taken away from you, but the game is also full of nifty little details, so it's a trade off.
hardly even notice the music.
>10/10 it's shit

>>338452367
I don't think anyone is trying to make a point that Crysis 3 is a good game. It isn't.
The point is that consolefags saying Uncharted 4 is the best looking game ever are wrong (at least on a technical standpoint, maybe not on an artistic one), as shown by games such as Crysis 3 (or Star Citizen, which runs on the same engine). UE4 on PC also wipes the floor with Uncharted, although there are only tech demos so far, no big games have actually been released on it.
